Here in the Philippines everything you can buy is in plastic , even single use meals and condiments
You can literally go online and get these with the same internet you used to make this comment, then reuse the boxes and wrapping.
So helpful. I wish big companies would have their stand alone shop where we can refill our products if not, DIY can be the best alternative.

I sew my own unpaper towels from Terry cloth. I just use a really tight zig zag stitch and then cut it close to the edge so it doesn't fray. I have a clean and dirty bin and wash them weekly with my towel load. It now takes me over a month to go through a roll of paper towels because I use the towels much more often!
Thank you!!! Oddly, one of my favorites is keeping glass containers food stuff comes in like pasta jars and using them for... *gasp* storing food! I'm all for zero-waste content, please make more episodes!!!
I don't even use dryer, best to hang clothes, that saves energy and doesn't ruin the clothes

I have never owned a dryer in my life!
Very common not to own one in Europe, I know of only 2 friends who have it, and they both have small children
Never had one tbh.
I do use dryer sheets. However, I put them in a container once used and reactivate them. I use them over and over. I use vinegar or hydrogen peroxide for spray cleaners. I use dawn, vinegar and salt for weeds. I compost like crazy. It may not be as much as some but I'm sure trying.
Apropos dryer sheets: In most of Europe we use air drying racks that we put outside or on our balcony and it doesn't need energy, your clothes smell fresh and you don't have to waste money on electricity and dryer sheets.
A good thing about the homemade drain cleaner too is that it probably won't corrode your pipes, especially if you live in a house or apartment with old plumbing fixtures.
I'm guessing you're on mains sewage. I don't use caustic drain cleaner cuz we have a septic system

Good ideas except for the Draino swap. Vinegar and baking soda DO NOT WORK!!!
At least when I have tried it it does nothing. My primary problem is my long hair despite trying multiple hair-catching products. Vinegar can help soak through hard water but I do not know how it performs with the soap residues and mixed with baking soda.
Isn't the guppy bag made from plastic which would produce more microplastic over time?

I know it’s not the point of the video, but turn that toilet bowl cleaner upside down! The bottle is bent like that so you can clean under the rim where the jets are

They do exist in some places! Check near the bulk section of fancy grocery stores in your area and ask around :)
I have been researching zero waste cleaning alternatives for a few weeks now. Thanks so much for this. It was really informative.
I have a question though, what is a zero waste swap for fabric softener that is available in plastic containers.
I made my own fabric softener from 3 parts distilled water and one part white vinegar. You want to use distilled water because impurities in the water can make the mixture nasty after a short while. Fabric softener is just an acid to help close the fibers of the fabric after they have been opened up by the alkaline detergent. Also, FYI: never put straight vinegar into a washing machine or dishwasher. It can corrode the plumbing, seals and gaskets inside. Instead you should dilute at least 1:1 with water.

intrigued by laundry detergent sheets, I've never seen them in stores (or just overlooked them)
I use the EarthBreeze ones, and I'm obsessed. They clean really well, make my clothes smell wonderful, and take up no space. All of the brands that I've seen, you have to order directly from their website or online eco marketplaces like EarthHero.
I would love to use them but they were a tad expensive. $20 for 32 loads
@@kugatsu16 You should look into different brands. The ones I use are 60 loads for $12 (subscription option).

okay but how much do those low/no waste detergent strips cost compared to the regular (generic) pods? bc that's gonna be a dealbreaker for some people. Some of these can be done easily, sure, but if the alternative is expensive, those of us on tighter budgets can only do so much.
I think the Tru Earth ones are expensive, but I use the Earth Breeze laundry sheets, and they're $12/60 loads on their subscription - so $0.20 per load. That's the average cost of laundry detergent.
@@lexi219 I think I looked at that one and as you mentioned earlier its by subscription it was $20 for a one month supply if you didn't. I did talk to them and they guarantee their product but still.. I don't like commitment that's just me. I would like to see these in the mainstream store and at affordable prices that everyone can buy. I really really wish they'd just start selling concentrates and ditch the bottles completely. @@buckeyedav1 You can skip a shipment or cancel your subscription at any time, so you aren't locked into a commitment. If you sign up for the subscription and decide you don't want to use it anymore, you are free to cancel immediately. You can also change the frequency if you don't need a new pack monthly. The point of the subscription is to make it easy and accessible. Instead of my having to go to the store, it comes straight to my door every few months, and I always get a heads up email that it's about to ship with a reminder asking me if I want to skip or delay this shipment. They are honestly making it easier than ever to get this product.
Also, there are a bunch of companies that sell concentrates at affordable prices. There are tons of alternatives to big plastic bottles that will work based on different people's preferences.
Powder detergent in a cardboard box is often cheaper than liquid detergent. Only thing is that it doesn’t always dissolve well in cold water.
@@cowsgomiaow problem with that: energy efficient washers can’t take powder. Unless there’s some product you can put powder in and reuse that I’m unaware of, anyway.

I heard that solid shampoo and conditioner takes a lot of water during production. 1. is that true and 2. if so, does that also apply to solid detergent? I hope not. I was hoping we found a way to be more sustainable. But I guess there is no black and white.

Not only is Draino awful but it often does not do the job and you have to call a plumber creating a dangerous situation for them when they have to open your pipes and could hurt them badly. If you do use make sure you tell the plumber before hand. I use to work in property management and we always ask our tenants if they had used this before calling the plumber. Anna In Ohio.

For lint rollers I really prefer that (i know they are plastic) the T cleaning windows thing. It looks like a T with silicone on top of the T, and it is the best for cleaning Fur! and lasts forever!
I don't know if they make them on bamboo or something like that, because I bought them 10 years ago, maybe today you can find it in bamboo or some better materials than the plastic one that I have, but believe me, they work really nice!

You could get a metal one when it wears out and only need to replace the rubbery blade, similar to the ones we have at gas stations near me

I try my best to live a sustainable lifestyle. A lot of these tips I am already doing but I really wish that vinegar did not come in a plastic bottle. She mentioned several ways to replace harmful chemicals with vinegar which I do but....
You can find white vinegar in glass bottles at Walmart. They come in 32 ounce bottles.
I like the idea of the concentrate one comming in glass bottles but it is still lot's of single use glass but so much better then using plastic. Yes single use plastic is bad and having a bigger container of concentrate is better as you won't go as quick through it (most concentrates I see come in plastic still). I never thought having concentrates in glass is an option as I always see them come in tablet forms online as the concentrates in the store use chemicals that aren't present in the tablet forms. I still see a hole in the market but nice a company made a concentrate in glassbottles as it's a better alternative I haven't seen before

I use homemade laundry detergent. There are many videos that show how to do this and no packaging except cardboard boxes. It seems like this is a sponsored video. Is that true because nothing was mentioned anywhere? Also if you knit or crochet, there are many patterns for swiffer covers and duster things.

You're not cleaning hard water stains out of a toilet bowl with a acid base neutralization "bomb"
a washing bag made of what? polyester? and glass uses much more energy to be produced. so its not very climate friendly. and this topload washing machine is the greatest water wasting thing ever
Ive just looked, there's no such thing as laundry sheets here. Have you tried making your own laundry liquid? It's cheap and easy. Don't use a dryer unless theresno other viable option. Even when I had one - wtf are dryer sheets? You're using a bag to protect your clothes from wear and tear BUT you're still using a dryer? Disposable duster? I've just never seen most of these products

I just use my handheld hoover attachment and then pass a wet cloth to dust.

It works well for me!
Liquid drain cleaner is just plain terrible. Buy the long plastic stick at the store for the drain and it will remove all of the clogged stuff.

Veganism is not using any animal products even if you dont have to kill the animal to get them
Vegans don't eat honey either, and if you have to kills the bees to take their honey you are doing it wrong.
Veganism is the belief that animals shouldn't be used as commodities. Buying wool is supporting an industry that abuses sheep for their wool. They've been selectively bred to benefit humans but it harms the sheep themselves. Sheep also sometimes suffer injuries when being sheared and are treated like machines, so wool isn't vegan.

Sorry, I have the impression that these products are very not accessible; plus these products are not going to clean your house just by having vinagear in them. You talk about toxic chemicals but it can be dangerous to have not well disinfected surfaces in your home.
Stop buying polyester clothes and tell Zara and H&M and other “fast fashion” shop to stop making them!
