In Sunday School this question was brought up as far as Christians owning firearms or joining the military. We had a spirited discussion
about the role of weapons in the Christian walk. The most poignant argument was made by an 83 year old woman. She reminded the
class that Nehemiah, while rebuilding the walls around Jerusalem, directed the workers to have armaments on them or within easy reach
in case of an attack (Nehemiah 4:17-18). Her argument carried the day: "Christians shouldn't go out looking for trouble; but, when trouble
finds you be ready to defend. Should the enemy subdue/kill you, what do you think they'll do to your defenseless families after you're gone?"

I feel like it’s my job as a man to protect my family and other innocent people (love your neighbor) from harm so yes I’ve carry and have carried a gun on my person for years and will continue to do so till I’m 6 foot under. I think it’s a sin not to do that
I've had a discussion with someone that was adamant that any killing is murder and therefore against God's will. He wouldn't answer once I mentioned the verses mentioned in this video.

I too carry everywhere I go including Sunday School and the Worship services at church. Some folks say they wouldn’t go to a church where you have to carry a gun, well I don’t have too and it’s not the regular attenders that I’m worried about. It’s the Devil’s crazy people that would come into a church and kill God’s people by shooting the Church up just to stop them from worshiping God! I know for a fact I’m not the only one packing at our Church so Satan’s folks better beware!

Unless I am in a predicament where I have NO weapon and I am asked in the face of death if I am willing to give my life for my King, the Lord Jesus then I find no greater honor bestowed up a puny human than to gladly do so.
BUT if I have to defend my life generally speaking against a criminal or assailant I have an OBLIGATION to protect my life which God has given me in SELF DEFENSE.
That's my reasoning on the matter.

He said protect yourself from harm. We don't use sticks and swords anymore so using the modern equivalent should be absolutely fine as long as not used in anger.
Edit for clarification. Being against using modern weapons would be like saying don’t spread the gospel over the internet or text message.

Thank you so much for this one sir! You are absolutely correct. There are PILES of verses in the the Bible speaking of defending yourself, your loved ones and your belongings. As much as some don’t want to admit it, evil is out there and it needs be met head on. I did a full custom build to a pistol last spring. It turned out beautifully…..complete with two different Bible verses engraved on it.

It is certainly important to protect oneself and it is arguable that you have a duty to do so how we enact that is always the question.
I think this is a good series to start. Many people who own guns as well as people who don't may not understand the biblical truth and I think it's a great thing to shed light on this.

As long as y'all's relationship is based in Christ first and foremost, and y'all put Him in everything that y'all do, and when tough times come, turn to Him for guidance and strength. I learned these lessons far later in life and after multiple failed relationships. Do not listen to your best friends, or family for advice. Y'all's marriage is a covenant between God and eachother, no one else. So don't let others tell you what is best for y'all. God can redeem anyone and get you both through anything, so turn to Him when things get hard, and pray together as a couple. Congratulations on the wedding and may God bless you both!

Jordan. I do bless your family for all safety. I do have 1 thing I would like to share with you that God has brought to my mind when I read this. Take a normal sheet of computer paper and make 3 even columns vertically. At the top of the left column in large letters put the word RIGHT. Top of right column put WRONG. In the middle
put the word RESOLVE. Any time you and your wife have a disagreement look at the paper and pick a column where you want to be. Doing this has helped me in all of my relationships. May the Lord Jesus bless your entire family.

I have used this passage many, many times in discussions with anti-gun "Christians.". You would be surprised (or maybe not) at the number of people who choose this passage as the only one in the Bible that is not literal. Selective interpretation!

@@mattwilson218 some people say that this passage does not mean what it says, yet will argue that other passages in the Bible are literal. If other passages are literal, so is this one. BUT a strictly literal interpretation of this passage would preclude guns, knives, canes, staffs and clubs. I don't know what the passage means, but it seems to indicate that it's OK, no mandatory, to carry a weapon.

This topic with my own extended Family has gone to extremes. The "peacemakers" on one side question politely on my insistence to owning and carrying. Jesus NEVER told his disciples to get rid of their weapons! He told peter to "put your sword back into its place."
My wife was a licensed minister and was happy with me carrying until I convinced her that she needed to carry a firearm as well. She obtained a concealed carry permit and always had her gun with her. During one Women’s Conference this subject came up and after letting the group know she carried one fellow minister asked her the following question: “So would you feel comfortable choosing to send someone to hell?”.
My wife’s response: “I did not make that choice, they made it when they broke into my house.”
Seek permission from a corporate state government to "carry" ... WHY .... buy the weapon and start packing .... forget the "paperwork" and simply LAWFULLY do as you please ...

Though we are lambs, god gives us the knowledge, and the tools so we can live our lives, not be lead to slaughter. Doing otherwise is akin to suicide; allowing your life to simply taken by another, against your will, and gods.
God's second greatest commandment is to love others as you love yourself. If I allow myself or others to be harmed or killed because I wasn't carrying that would violate His command to us.
Please make more of these videos. People need to understand that we have a spiritual battle. And we wrestle not against just flesh and blood. But people who are influenced by the demonic. Therefore we must be prepared in a lot of ways to protect and help do the right things. Good job
So when he said two swords was enough, I’ll take that to mean God told me to carry a back up gun. One on my hip for God, and one on my ankle for Jesus.
Or pistol as back up and shotgun or rifle as primary.

There are many places where it is illegal for a common man to carry a gun, federal buildings, including post offices, usda offices, and each state will have statutes regarding this issue. So, for me, open carry makes more sense. Please pray for wisdom, for me and all subscribers and viewers. And a hallelujah for your sharing this message, I've been saying this for decades.

Great message and look forward to your series. I have had people argue the meaning of the scriptures you reference here that I often quote and assign their own meaning to the word "sword". And, man you couldn't have picked a better time to begin this series as Christianity worldwide has come under attack. Especially with the hard left group who push for socialism and the Muslim religion - they equate Christians to the flaws in the US Constitution. The founding documents written by men of God and basing their writings on religious pillars is the common misbelief. When the Ten Commandments started being removed from courthouses and schools is when this nation's fall from grace began. Personally, I've never let religious doctrine dictate my self defense habits. I open carry to some people's surprise. But those who used to make the smart alec remarks upon seeing my OC gun are quiet now; they joined the ranks of new gun owners and carry a gun themselves now.
It is my understanding that the Hebrew Bible says “thou shalt not murder”. But this has been translated to “thou shalt not kill”. Killing someone in self defense is not murder. Each and every one of us has the right to protect ourselves and our families.
This is particularly apropos, now, with the recent attacks in and on churches. I've heard of a number of churches that have established security precautions that include armed parishioners. All good to my thinking. But I have also heard of pastors who have forbidden arms in church, and I really can't understand that. Especially since Jesus told us to be armed. One thing I try to point out when the subject comes up is the part where Jesus says to "sell your cloak" if necessary to purchase the "sword". I really don't like the modern translation of 'garment' because it doesn't convey the importance. Their cloak served as a prayer closet, raincoat, windbreaker, bedroll, and cold weather coat, as well as a covering blanket. To get the same meaning we would have to sell our coat, rain gear, tent, bedroll, thermal undergarments, and umbrella. Considering how much we spend on all those things, I would say it's a pretty important command from Jesus. He basically said sell what keeps you sheltered and comfortable in order to become armed.

I've walked out of several churches over the years for just this very reason. The last year has all but cemented my mind that going out into the world of man I will always be armed with both the word and the sword.

Keep in mind when He said that every one of them wasn't allowed to carry a sword. Only Roman citizens were allowed to be armed and none of the apostles he was talking to was a citizen of Rome.
I find your comment here very interesting. Jesus ignored Roman law here. He gave his disciples an order!!!! He did not tell the disciples to get a permit/license from Ceasar either!!
When reading the books of the Bible, you should consider the time in which it was written. It was written during a time just after the invention of the wheel so the visions that were shown to the writers to write about were things they had not seen before and so their descriptions seem strange to us. Back then the sword would have been one of the most advanced personal weapon. Today it is the various choices of guns. Had guns been available, I think Jesus would have said to get one of them.
I’m a Messianic Jew. For those of you who don’t know a Messianic Jew is a Jewish person who has accepted Yeshua (Jesus) as their Lord and Savior. We do all of the old Jewish traditions and rituals because our Messiah did them. That said when an anti-Second Amendment person confronts me by saying (yelling) “GIVE ME ONE GOOD REASON YOU NEED A GUN!” I simply reply “As a Jew I can give you 6,000,000 good reasons.”
I am looking forward to this series. I have enjoyed all of your other series. You seem to be a true man of God. I believe Yahweh wants us to be prepared in life to face the challenges of being his servant. This would include being able to defend yourself as well as your loved ones.

I am a christian and I do carry. However, this scripture refers to the 2 swords as the Double Edged Sword which is the tongue that speaks the truth. He is telling them that they have been bestowed with the word and are ready to go into the world with that double edged sword. And that the truth and the word is enough. I could be wrong, but that is how interpreted it.
If that were the case, why would Jesus instruct His disciples to sell their coat to acquire a tongue (something they already possess)?

@The Smoking Barrel the servant would not be naked, as it is an outer garment (jacket). We know Peter had a sword, as a few verses later at the arrest of Jesus Peter cut off Malchus's ear (Luke 22:49-51).

However ecclesiastes 3 as I stated before tells us that carrying is not frowned upon.

As to the Word being a sword, that same night did Peter cut off the servant's ear with a harsh rebuke? Or his sword? I am thinking more gladius than scriptural passage.
Some of Jesus' disciples carried swords. Peter used one on an ear in the garden. If disciples carried swords, while walking with Jesus, why would it not be ok for us to arm ourselves.

If he was referring to the word of God by saying "sword", he wouldn't say, if you don't have one, sell your cloak and buy one. You can't buy the word of God. He's clearly talking about a weapon.

Matthew 10:16 could be our guidance also. I wrestled with carrying however in the face of evil it must be thwarted. We don’t look for trouble, it looks for us. The apostles didn’t look for trouble, it found them.
I also see Isaiahs quote a bit differently than how this video was briefly presented. Jesus was crucified between two common thieves. His disciples would also be viewed that way as nonconformist, rebellious, lawless. They should shun violence as we should however we can and should protect ourselves and the innocent.
The way i see it is, we are suppose to be sheep dogs. Not sheep.

I'm not a fan nor a scholar of the Bible. Raised Catholic, gave it up at my earliest opportunity. But regardless of faith or upbringing, WHERE or WHY would ANYONE seek guidance about protecting their family or their own lives??? Why the hell is justification needed from some book to protect your wife and children? Someone wants to harm/kill your family and you have the means to protect them, you use it. No questions asked, no apologies, no explanations. How the bible fits into this is beyond me. It's also late...I'll go now...LOL

I can answer the question. 12 of the 13 colonies had militia, in which all able-bodied men, different colonies had different age requirements, were enrolled for mandatory service. Only Pennsylvania did not have a militia because Quakers controlled the colonial legislature. In 1750, Ben Franklin convinced the legislature that Pennsylvania needed an organized, ARMED, and disciplined militia. He even procured a couple of cannons for their militia.
So, if the Quakers were convinced, and did create their own colonial militia, I'm sure that they prayed upon it, consulted scripture, and realized that an armed citizenry was necessary. This is significant because the Quakers were pacifist. More importantly, militia statutes required the carrying of arms at all times, something that was very frowned upon by Quakers.

I think, as Christians, we have been told for so long to be submissive that self-protection has become a contrary idea.
However, Christ was an earth-shaker. He battled against governments (Satan). I don't view Christ as meek. I see Him as loving......and protective. The fact that He submitted to God's will for salvation should be considered separately from how He interacted with humanity.
We cannot put ourselves into His role. We have to consider His direction for us. He died that we may live. If we simply cower and die, how will we live for Him?
I believe that if someone is walking in the Spirit, they will be guided by the Spirit in times of trouble.......regardless of whether they are carrying or not. My argument is King David. He fought and fought and fought. God called him a "man of war". But when it was in regards to claiming revenge on Saul, David followed a different path than many would or could follow by listening to what God had ordered.
So, whether we carry or not, we need to be LISTENING to the Holy Spirit for direction and guidance.

I like the verses in Genesis 14:14. Abraham had 318 servants born in his house (big even by today's standard) and he armed them to rescue his "brother" from a group that had attacked and captured them (probably to sell as slaves or at least force into servant-hood). Men going into battle seldom only have one weapon. David had a staff that was probably also a staff/sling which is more powerful than a simple sling. Police today usually have "a back up" and or extra clips. Abraham did not have time to beat pruning hooks into swords. The swords were on hand and the people were trained in their use. Abraham asked if he should follow and rescue his brother and the Lord said yes. God did not send a "Rambo" to the rescue he sent 318 of them. How many Jewish people in WW2 would have died if God had not sent in armed deliverers? Many of those were drafted and most did not look to armed conflict as as source of income. Need New Testament? 1 Timothy 5:8 A person will provide for their family even for their defense. Even meek animals and birds will fight for their young and their mates.
And to keeeel the Amalachites and their women and their babies and their unborn children and their goats and their sheep and their cattle.

I know people that try to distort the turn the other cheek verse to mean take a whipping, don't lift a finger to protect yourself. My interpretation is like you said, protect you and yours.
The Bible addresses a man's responsibilities. Yes, you are to protect your wife and children from evil as the head of the house, as to be the provider for food and shelter.
When there were no guns, people used swords. They worked. Christ wanted the deciples not to use the sword to spread the word but to live, not die to a highwayman, so the message could be preached.
I spent 28yrs in the Army infantry. I considered myself a Christian soldier. Retired, I still try to uphold my oath. I have an obligation to protect people from evil doers. I'm skilled, healthy, fit, no excuses to give up. I practice situational awareness all the time and avoidance, but if evil shows up, I'll die in place to try and vanquish it.
Everyone has fear. Crippling fear, in my mind, is unacceptable for me. I am not wired that way. I am not a sheep. Sheepdog? Yes. God loves dogs too.

Our right to self-defense comes from natural law. And in that, from whomever, or whatever made us. I am agnostic but relatively well versed (not greatly) in the Bible. While I may not subscribe to everything that is taught in modern day religion, I do believe there are truths within it. What of David slaying Goliath? Would that not be perceived as defense of self and others?

What I've struggled with is passages like ones where Jesus said, "my kingdom is not of this world- if it were, then would my servants fight..", and "I say unto you resist not evil- if one smites you on the one cheek, let him smite the other". In other words, since God is sovereign in everything that happens, isn't He directing, if not appointing, even the violence that evil men use to oppress the righteous? In Psalms, David asked God to, "Deliver me from the wicked which is that sword". Here, the wicked are referred to as "God's sword".
I also understand that God has appointed government agents (police, et. al) to deal with criminals. "He (the government agent) bears not the sword in vain". In this case the authority to punish wrong doers is clearly established.
Personally, I carry, but I've been wondering if we shouldn't leave our physical preservation in the hands of God who already has the number of our days written in his book.
