Bass Lines in Samba
The bass patterns in Samba are driven by the left hand. Samba can be defined as a 2 layer rhythm where 1 rhythm is non-syncopated. The bass line pattern is the non-syncopated element and this is performed by the Surdo drum in the Samba band.
The Accent On The 2nd Beat
If you are used to playing a lot of European inspired music, you might find it unusual to place the emphasis on the 2nd beat. Using western classical music as an example, you will notice that the accents are always on the downbeat. In Brazilian music, the accent is placed on the 2nd beat.
The Syncopated Element
The second layer of the Samba is a syncopated line which takes the role of the Tamborim drum. You must have the non-syncopated line of the Surdo in order to achieve the combination of these rhythms. This left-hand bass line gives the right-hand line a reference from which to be syncopated.

Thank you very much! There are fairly accomplished drummers in my part of the world who commonly play a rhythm they refer to as "samba" which, confusingly, isn't a Samba pattern. (It starts on the wrong part of the beat and is much simplified.) The Brazilian Samba is more nuanced and complex, much more fascinating and satisfying to hear, and likely more difficult to play convincingly, so I'm really grateful you were willing to break it down for us like this. How do you get your right hand so staccato? I can get that sound pretty easily on guitar by releasing my left hand at key moments. On piano it is more challenging! LOL

Syncopation is understood from all musicians all over the world.There is no proof and evidence for such an conclusion you made
Weird teaching, I hear how the left hand is playing but, can't play for 10 min straight(rewatching doesn't help) and since you give zero explanation about learning the piano rythm by the right hand, you just play fast, it looks like you hit 3 notes and sometimes ad A, but still it's not that rhyhtm, if you had a clear presentation or show exacly how you play slowly and then fast as good teachers do, it would have been nice or show noes via sofware like syntesia, sad.
