I just love watching people discover U2. It makes me so happy to share the joy they've brought to my life for 35 years. As for people hating on Bono, he didn't get rich by exploiting anyone's labour or by lying, cheating or stealing - he got rich because he touched legions of lives and we all contributed willingly. At the end of the day, his activism work has been huge - and has put his life in danger at times. He literally puts his money where his mouth is, and if there are cosmic scales of justice waiting to account for us when we die, I'm sure his will tip much further in the direction of having done good in the world.

I’ve only managed to see U2 once in 1987 on “The Joshua Tree” tour. I was a senior in high school. I don’t consider myself religious but that concert was the closest I have ever felt to having a religious or spiritual experience at a Rock concert! One of my all time top favorite shows I’ve been to.
That’s actually how I describe my experiences of the shows I’ve attended - I say it’s what going to church should feel like. I always come away with a renewed spirit and belief in community and the good that people can do for the world. It’s a feeling I’m reeeaaallly missing right now.
I’ve seen U2 on 3 different occasions and it’s truly a “Religious” experience with chills and emotions abound. They close with their song “40” which is Psalm. 40:1-3 and it is phenomenal . When Bono sings “Amazing Grace” and it moves into “Where the streets have no name” There is no comparison to the feeling within your soul

I have been following U2 since year dot. Every time they tour, their old lyrics are updated, changed, arranged rearranged to reflect current affairs to make their songs new, fresh and contemporary. Simple artisty.
In that unexplainable way,i LOVE how The Edge manages to let me imagine thoose jetplanes through his guitar play. I have loved The Edge since childhood,he is sooo good! The entire band is,but The Edge is my favourite. Ever seen him perform New Years Day live with U2? He plays both guitar and keyboard without skipping a beat,absolutely stunning!
I’ve been to more than 10 U2 concerts...and it’s nowhere near enough. THIS BAND IS MEANT TO BE SEEN LIVE. Every tour is so different & every show is an *experience.* U2 are one of those rare bands that actually improve on the studio version when they perform the songs live. I can’t even pick a favorite show I’ve seen. They each hit me in a different way. Worth every penny. @TheAdventuresOfTNT If you get a chance to see them live, take it.
You can actually become high off the adrenaline alone at a U2 concert. As for Bono, he grew up in Dublin when the news of the Troubles in Belfast was on TV every night. He lost his mother at 14 and many of his songs have elements of that loss (Lemon and Mofo especially). He claims his faith saved him until he answered an ad at his high school looking to start a band. That was U2.
I saw both the original Joshua Tree tour live in austin in ‘87, and the anniversary Joshua Tree show in Buffalo in ‘17. You don’t understand the raw power of this band and their music until you are a part of the live audience. To say it is a religious experience is an understatement.
Haha Same boat. Saw in Tampa FL in 87 and then met the same friends i went to that show with, in Cleveland 30 years later for this Joshua Tree tour. Talk about a cool experience!
U2 is incredible live. I’ve seen them 9 times, and yes. It is an experience every single time. The best show I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been to hundreds of concerts, was U2 in 11/2001. To get an idea of what that was like watch their Super Bowl performance. Their song ‘Walk On’ was a communal grieving and healing after 9/11. They broadcast the names of all of the fallen into the crowd. Perfect strangers were hugging each other and crying. It was intense. The concert you watched was the rescheduled show after the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris. One of their best performances to react to is their concert at Live Aid in 1985.
Dude, I saw their first show live post 9/11. I had seen 3 on that tour already, including the show in London the night Bono’s father died, but this next show was beyond emotional. Hugging and crying everywhere. I brought a box of tissues with me to the next one a week later and started passing them out before One. Everybody wondered wth I was doing but by the time the names started scrolling they all were asking for more tissues. Those shows were precious experiences to me and I’ll never forget them.

Everybody should experience a U2 concert in their lifetime. They definitely put on a great show. Some people don't like Bono's politics, but U2 have done this their entire career. They are from Ireland. You will notice a lot of their songs have biblical references or references to the Catholic Church. You can almost say they are not a Christian band but a band of Catholic christians, if that makes any sense. October, War, Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree are perfect examples of this. One of if not the BEST band of the last several decades.
Love that band they are absolutely incredible live and their songs really hit home on an emotional and spiritual level, absolute legends amongst the greatest ever seen in music.
It is a life changing event, seen them Carver Hawkeye area Iowa City IA......1986.....and 10 times after that......it is spiritual, the bass line ......the bass is so hard hitting......moves your chest .....U2. An Irish band that took the world by love and compassion. They have no filler songs, each song stands on its own, every sing has a life lesson. Sometimes I just sit and cry listening to U2. I'm nearly 60 yrs old seen around 250 concerts but U2 Tops them all. Love your channel Much respect
I saw them as a high schooler during their 2005 Vertigo tour, and it was life-changing. A spiritual rock experience. They ended the show with “One” and had the arena singing the “oh oh-oh oh” section a cappella. Still sends chills down my spine just thinking of it. I’ve seen them a few times since as an adult. Their multimedia video and stage production are always creative and bring extra insight into the songs. In this particular performance, Bono might be referring to us younger self in terms of their Irish roots and early work referencing The Troubles (“Sunday Bloody Sunday”) or other world issues. U2 is underrated and misunderstood on so many levels. Bono is an amazing lyricist, and he often ad-libs or straight up changes lyrics during live performances that seem just as original. Their music always has a message, more of a spiritual or moral resonance rather than political. (Think more pro-human rights instead of anti-anything.) Even their “personal” songs about love, romance, loss, etc. are so poetic and beautiful.
If they tour again you should jump on tickets right away cuz they sell out every show EVERYWHERE. I saw them many years ago -- one of the best shows I've seen! "In the Name of Love" will always be one of my favorites.
Bono is known to go see things for himself, after the live aid concert he went to Ethiopia and realized very little of the money they raised went there, it had some inspiration for where the streets have no name. This song was inspired by a trip to Nicaragua where he saw a lot of the ravages of war, and I think he actually got shot at. The song is about how all of the major nations are involved in arms sales and proxy wars. The song October was written about God, "kingdoms rise, kingdoms fall, but your kingdom goes on and on." I think you'll see that throughout they're music.
Glad you enjoyed that small segment of a U2 concert. The first song is from their second album October. I have seen them twice. In ‘83 and ‘05. In ‘83 they didn’t have all of the elaborate staging. The video screens and stuff. Still an amazing show. In ‘05 they did. It was a Saturday night. At the end I thought, I don’t need to go to church tomorrow cause I just went to church tonight. It was like that.
Blessed to say I’ve seen them 9 times and counting! Saw this concert live in Chicago! They did 5 shows and I was there for 3 of them! Never once did I get sick of seeing this performance live💯
U2 have done it all , ever kind of music , they are without any doubt the biggest Mega Band on the planet, I’ve been blow away for years at there concert’s across the world, Bono, the Edge Adam Clayton , Larry Mullen Jr have wowed millions of us fans for decades ❤👍
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed seeing your reaction to my favorite band- the comments show, you Get It! I’ve seen them live several times (not nearly enough, lol), and every time, it’s an Experience! The most recent show was in 2018, where I was fortunate to be on the front row, and I can still feel the power of the music. You absolutely HAVE to see them when they tour next- you will never forget it. And you’re right, the members of the band are all heavily involved in philanthropy, physically and financially. Bono is the most visible, but Edge, Larry and Adam are right there too, donating millions to the World Fund and other projects, and Edge with Music Rising, directly benefiting the musicians affected by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Amnesty International, Product (Red), the One Foundation , too much to count. But you have to live the experience! Please, please see them live when you have the opportunity. You don’t have to go to Paris or Dublin (although seeing them perform in Dublin is the entirety of my bucket list), just see them wherever you can!
U2 live is unlike any other concert experience! It’s hard to understand how unless you’ve experienced it...but they manage to make a crowd of 60K in a stadium feel intimate! U2 and their longtime fans have a really strong connection. They’re the only band I traveled from Texas to see live: Chicago, San Diego, and Tulsa...so far!
You said right. A U2 concert is not just a concert, it's an experience. I've been to see them 5 times and every show is absolutely magic and practically a religious experience. You're also right that they are political and concerned with fairness in the world. The great part is that he picks subjects that we can all agree with. Political prisoners, starvation, war, landmines left over from past wars, drug addiction, Aids. Their concerts are MAGIC!!!

The band has done so much for AIDS funding in Africa, promoting equality for men and women and all races and genders, and their music is 35 years important. Greatest live act ever. Period. 40 years strong. Their original Paris show for this tour was cancelled due to a terrorist attack. They returned to Paris at the end of the tour and performed this incredible show. Check out their 1985 Live Aid performance, and their Super bowl Halftime show from 2002. A few months after 9/11. I've seen them live 11 times on 7 tours and they never disappoint.
Being at a U2 show is a very moving experience! It's phenomenal! Bono went to South America and experienced the horrors of war, head said in an interview that he could feel bullets buzz by him The man is so in tune with what is going on in the world, Bravo to the B Man for opening so many eyes! When you go to a U2 show, there is NOTHING like it in the world! You laugh, cry, sing and and when it's over it leaves you wanting more! U2 is my miracle drug!!!!!

I have been lucky enough to see this amazing iconic band live many times. Starting in 1983 at Red Rocks and every tour that came to Denver since. 1000's of concerts in my life ( I'm 55 ) and no band has ever come with it live like U2. Far and away the best live band ever. Bucket List Experience !
I can share the experience of seeing U2 live 3 times in my city in Argentina, PopMart, Vertigo and 360° tours and I can tell you guys without any doubt or exaggerating things that U2 concerts are beyond music, this concerts are otherworldly experiences. This Mythical band has this mastery on converging big spectacle with profound, deep and soul touching performances, you just feel like you're elevated to the skies but at the same time you feel in touch with yourself and your soul and the souls of the thousands of people in the show, it's like a mystical thing that happened every time I was in a U2 concert, every time
I've seen them twice, but I never got that sense of their shows. And I'm a major U2 fan, but only of their 1978-1982 era, of which I'm involved in tribute band endeavors. Though I appreciate their later output, but I'm not into that.
I’ve seen U2 live six times, in DC and Chicago. It’s magical. They’re the only band I know who can give you a religious experience in a stadium or an arena. It’s like a revival. You wind up feeling like you love the whole crowd. Also, you nailed it with respect to Bono. He grew up in Dublin, he was sort of a working class kid in the 60’s and 70’s during the era in Ireland where the north and south were racked by terrorism. Locked in a lowkey war. And these four guys have been a band since 1976. They’ve got more than a dozen records. And they have apartments in New York and mansions in France. And since the late 1990’s I think they’ve been struggling with their identity. Because they’ve always been active in social and political causes, but they definitely reached the point where they’re SO successful (and getting old, in terms of rock stars) that they’re sort of not as relevant as they once were... but they’re one of the great rock bands of all time, they’re legends, and they’ve always tried to give back. These two songs you just listened to, October and BBS, are from the 80’s - 1982 and 1987 - and Bono drastically changed the lyrics to BBS in this performance to reflect his internal struggle. The tour this was from was called “Innocence + Experience,” which reflects their most recent records, “Songs of Innocence” and “Songs of Experience,” which are, respectively, a look back at their roots sort of rediscovering why they became a band in the first place, and a sort of examination of the present state of the world in light of that rediscovery. This performance really encapsulates that.

75% of the time their music has a social message. One song they sing is about Billie Holiday "Angel of Harlem" and a great song with BB King "When love comes to town" Bono won the NAACP Image Award among many many others.

Great Reaction! I am somewhat of a concert junkie. Been to over 350 concerts, ranging from Massive stadium and arena tours to tiny clubs. From up and coming artists to legends. Ive seen Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, Lionel Ritchie, Pixies, The National, Prince, NIN, New Order, Lorde, Jurassic 5, Stevie Wonder, Foo Fighters, Moby, Outkast, TV on the Radio, LCD Soundsystem, Elvis Costello, Pet Shop Boys, Muse, Killers, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Coldplay, De la Soul, Flaming Lips, Radiohead, a ton of local acts., and so much more. No one comes anywhere close to seeing U2 live. Most of these artist were great live. A few had great technology, a few had great set pieces, a few were extremely intimate, a few really tore the place up, a few had mesmerizing vocal performances, a few had epic guitar histrionics, a few got everyone dancing etc. From my own personal experience, U2 outperforms everyone in each of those individual areas, and in many cases by ALOT (they are untouchable and ahead of everyone in terms of technology and also its creative use in the live setting). On top of that, they are far superior in that in one concert, sometimes in a sing song, they do ALL of that. Many acts only great in one of those areas. But what is even better is that they weave it all into a masterful experience. You hit on the exact perfect word. It not only describes their performances, but it also happens to be the title of the tour and album this video came from - Songs of Experience / The Experience + Innocence Tour. Prince is a master musician. He can outplay most artists on many instruments. His shows are a kaleidoscope of instrumentation and playing. He will often jump onto multiple instruments within a show. It is a sight to behold. Yet he is a distant secondary tier behind U2 live. Even when seeing him play up close and intimate in his hey day at Glam Slam for a private show, it was not nearly as intimate as U2 can be. Prince, Radiohead and many of the great live acts, perform AT you. It is all about the musician. Despite (and in many ways, with the use of technology), U2 perform WITH the audience. This is not merely in singalongs - which they do better than most. Bono knows, in the moment when to signal the band, and the sound engineers to bring the mix ands lights down. Sometimes these moments are built into the show, sometimes they are instinctual and spontaneous. The sing-alongs themselves are orchestrated by Bono and the band to either carry forward, build, and weave perfectly in with the band. Bono many times will pull people on stage to dance, hug, play guitar etc. He does this for only the songs where it makes most sense. Many times you can see the spontaneity as he reads audiences signs, either bringing them on stage, and/or incorporating into lyrics etc. Their performance and staging is very much focused on audience. U2 invented the B stage. They also brought it lower for better crowd interaction, where many artists using technology either purposefully or inadvertently created a separation/barrier. You can see the progression of Muse's live shows, where at the beginning they got lost in the technology, but after opening multiple times for U2 they gradually started to learn to not get swallowed by it. From the beginning of U2 putting on grand epic technology infused stadium shows, they already knew how to use it to bring the audience in. ZooTV was groundbreaking in so many ways, not just for the BStage. But even there, the manner in which they incorporated it from the beginning, was well executed. ZooTV was a technological beast. It was multimedia overload, way ahead of its time. This was intentional. It was in response to all the things going on in the world and CNN and cable news and TV coming into our living room at warp speed. This was before the internet and smartphones. So it was designed to be an overload of stimulus and randomness. A mindf@#k. But in the middle of the show, both physically and in terms of shown-time, they did a completely stopped down mindset at the Bstage. All humongous multitude of monitor off from the main stage, just the 4 of them in a small mini BStage, on acoustic instruments, with a single spotlight. Here again they show their gift of performance intimacy and connection to audience. But this wasn't merely great staging and craft in bringing artist and audience together, it was also a statement in an of itself. Amidst all the Technology and crazyness of that concert, there we could all strip everything away, turn everything off, and be as one. U2 are storytellers and their show brings you on a journey, an Experience. It is not just a collection of masterfully played songs, at you. It is connection. And there may be the crux of U2 shows. For all the staging, performance, craft, technology, musicianship, U2 really know how to turn it all into an experience which makes us think and feel, and touches our humanity. Most times, you don't just come away from a U2 feeling great, you come away wanting to be better
Terrific post. I fully agree. (And I, too, have seen U2 live many, many times, as well as seen acts like Prince, Radiohead & Smashing Pumpkins live.) So much great stuff you touched on here, but I’ll just “second” about Bono’s spontaneity at shows. For example, the people who are pulled up on stage are NOT audience plants. I know someone who was pulled up on stage to sing with Bono at a show I was at. Definitely not a plant. Just Bono being spontaneous & connecting with the audience. But...“time waits for no man”; U2 are getting older. So anyone who’s curious to see them should do so soon-while they’re still healthy & energetic enough to deliver at the standard they’ve set for themselves. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

As a 19 years old i have had a honour to see them twice, 360 tour and joshua tree tour 2017. After those concerts i felt like i was reborn. I have many favorite artists, but when it comes to the concerts there is nobody that comes even close to U2.
One of the greatest performances of this song. I’ve seen them 13 times. The best version is ‘93 Sydney ZooTV. Edges solo is insane. Love this one cause of the nod to Zooropa, Paul Hardcastle, and the homage to Hendrix. No one beats U2 live. No one.

I was many time on U2 concert.. And thay be all.. Wuff including on a tour.. Exempel 360 Tour.. I saw it on Friday live in Zurich. One day later.. A total different concert.. Absolute amazing both of them.
Being at a U2 show is beyond anything you can experience musicly! No matter where you are in a stadium or indoor arena you feel every single feeling your head and heart can feel! Bono has always said, no matter where you are at a show he's singing to you and looking at you, no preferential treatment at a U2 show! And I found it true, as though he was singing to me, and me alone, the man is so touching! And never fear! Ever show sounds crystal clear! They have the best sound system ever! It's plain phenomenal!!!!! Now I'm craving to see them live again! It always feels like the first time! Clean clear and full of love!!!!!

Now you know why they are known as one of the great live acts. Their studio songs come alive when they hit the stage. Great version to react to. Thanks. I can see they floored you with that one. It got me too, I've never heard it and I've been a fan for over 35 years.
I've seen several U2 concerts but the one that will always stick in my memory is the show at Madison square garden right after 9/11. There was a cloth going down the center of the garden and they projected the victim's names from the terror attacks as they sang and it just was bone chilling. Definitely react to U2 live they're such a great band in person. Songs of the top my head to recommend are 40, desire, pride, one, sometimes you can't make it on your own, city of winding lights, and streets have no name.
The 'story' is that Bono has always been an activist, but many people won't forgive him his fame and money. Try to listen to an 80's version of this song, the words are quite different for this reason. Also, U2 live is one of the best things that can happen to music lovers😉

This is one of the most powerful performances by any band, EVER. Whatever you think of Bono, I challenge anybody to watch this from start to finish and not conclude that he is one of the greatest front men OF ALL TIME. Nobody MEANS IT like Bono. This is SPECTACULAR.

At a young age I was lucky enough to see you live in Ireland and Manchester and can honestly say they blew me away and whenever I see or hear anything from those live shows I still find myself with tears of joy in my eyes. They are one truly awesome band to see live and the first band I got into in the 1980s 💙💙
Yep saw them in 92 for the first time in Madison Wisconsin and even though I was way back it was like I was front row like there was not a bad seat in the house. Then I got to see them in 2001 front and center of the heart shape catwalk and it was amazing!
I’ve been a U2 fan since 1982, and after all those years they’re still my favourite band. They are absolutely brilliant live. I haven’t seen them live nearly enough. They’ve never been content to rest on their laurels, but have always pushed themselves musically where other bands might have been content to rely on old hits. They’ve changed musical direction several times - I recommend checking out their Zoo tv era tour around the time of the ‘Achtung Baby’ and ‘Zooropa’ albums. If you haven’t watched their performance at Live Aid, you have to check it out. That was what launched them on to the world stage. Their music touches the soul.
Had an opportunity to see U2 here in NYC back in 2001. We happen to get tickets to see them from the corporate suite at Madison Square Garden. As you saw in that video they kick ass Seeing them live is something you should do.
I saw them “live” in 2009!!! Was the most amazing event!! Not just a concert!! What is so powerful about U2 is that they Are Not Fake!! They do so much stuff around the world to fund and help all kinds of people. And they do it away from publicity. Check out “Bullet the Blue Sky” from the “Rattle and Hum” movie!!! I've see U2 5 times. It is an experience and worth every penny. You will have goosebumps. I usually cry. 😊 Going to the Joshua Tree show with my now adult kids? That was probably one of the best nights of my life.
thank you for putting this video on and seeing how powerful of a platform U2 has to speak about the problems that we all are all facing, not only in america, but around the world. they've done that since day one. i've seen them live many times, but that's not really relevant right now. the live performances send many more messages than their regular videos (not to detract from any) because they always improvise and tell much so much more. there are SO many songs that i could mention, but i BEG of you (even if you don't post it) to watch at least the video of their halftime performance at superbowl 36. they only played 2 songs, but they are beautiful, and by the end you'll be in tears. guaranteed. re-watching it still makes me cry until this day.

I just love watching people discover U2. It makes me so happy to share the joy they've brought to my life for 35 years. As for people hating on Bono, he didn't get rich by exploiting anyone's labour or by lying, cheating or stealing - he got rich because he touched legions of lives and we all contributed willingly. At the end of the day, his activism work has been huge - and has put his life in danger at times. He literally puts his money where his mouth is, and if there are cosmic scales of justice waiting to account for us when we die, I'm sure his will tip much further in the direction of having done good in the world.

I saw U2 in Glasgow, 1981. They were very good.
I’ve only managed to see U2 once in 1987 on “The Joshua Tree” tour. I was a senior in high school. I don’t consider myself religious but that concert was the closest I have ever felt to having a religious or spiritual experience at a Rock concert! One of my all time top favorite shows I’ve been to.
That’s actually how I describe my experiences of the shows I’ve attended - I say it’s what going to church should feel like. I always come away with a renewed spirit and belief in community and the good that people can do for the world. It’s a feeling I’m reeeaaallly missing right now.

I’ve seen U2 on 3 different occasions and it’s truly a “Religious” experience with chills and emotions abound. They close with their song “40” which is Psalm. 40:1-3 and it is phenomenal . When Bono sings “Amazing Grace” and it moves into “Where the streets have no name” There is no comparison to the feeling within your soul

I have been following U2 since year dot. Every time they tour, their old lyrics are updated, changed, arranged rearranged to reflect current affairs to make their songs new, fresh and contemporary. Simple artisty.
In that unexplainable way,i LOVE how The Edge manages to let me imagine thoose jetplanes through his guitar play. I have loved The Edge since childhood,he is sooo good! The entire band is,but The Edge is my favourite. Ever seen him perform New Years Day live with U2? He plays both guitar and keyboard without skipping a beat,absolutely stunning!

You can actually become high off the adrenaline alone at a U2 concert.
As for Bono, he grew up in Dublin when the news of the Troubles in Belfast was on TV every night. He lost his mother at 14 and many of his songs have elements of that loss (Lemon and Mofo especially). He claims his faith saved him until he answered an ad at his high school looking to start a band. That was U2.
I saw both the original Joshua Tree tour live in austin in ‘87, and the anniversary Joshua Tree show in Buffalo in ‘17. You don’t understand the raw power of this band and their music until you are a part of the live audience. To say it is a religious experience is an understatement.
Haha Same boat. Saw in Tampa FL in 87 and then met the same friends i went to that show with, in Cleveland 30 years later for this Joshua Tree tour. Talk about a cool experience!

U2 is incredible live. I’ve seen them 9 times, and yes. It is an experience every single time. The best show I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been to hundreds of concerts, was U2 in 11/2001. To get an idea of what that was like watch their Super Bowl performance. Their song ‘Walk On’ was a communal grieving and healing after 9/11. They broadcast the names of all of the fallen into the crowd. Perfect strangers were hugging each other and crying. It was intense. The concert you watched was the rescheduled show after the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris. One of their best performances to react to is their concert at Live Aid in 1985.
Dude, I saw their first show live post 9/11. I had seen 3 on that tour already, including the show in London the night Bono’s father died, but this next show was beyond emotional. Hugging and crying everywhere. I brought a box of tissues with me to the next one a week later and started passing them out before One. Everybody wondered wth I was doing but by the time the names started scrolling they all were asking for more tissues. Those shows were precious experiences to me and I’ll never forget them.

Everybody should experience a U2 concert in their lifetime. They definitely put on a great show. Some people don't like Bono's politics, but U2 have done this their entire career. They are from Ireland. You will notice a lot of their songs have biblical references or references to the Catholic Church. You can almost say they are not a Christian band but a band of Catholic christians, if that makes any sense. October, War, Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree are perfect examples of this. One of if not the BEST band of the last several decades.
Love that band they are absolutely incredible live and their songs really hit home on an emotional and spiritual level, absolute legends amongst the greatest ever seen in music.

I saw them as a high schooler during their 2005 Vertigo tour, and it was life-changing. A spiritual rock experience. They ended the show with “One” and had the arena singing the “oh oh-oh oh” section a cappella. Still sends chills down my spine just thinking of it. I’ve seen them a few times since as an adult. Their multimedia video and stage production are always creative and bring extra insight into the songs.
In this particular performance, Bono might be referring to us younger self in terms of their Irish roots and early work referencing The Troubles (“Sunday Bloody Sunday”) or other world issues. U2 is underrated and misunderstood on so many levels. Bono is an amazing lyricist, and he often ad-libs or straight up changes lyrics during live performances that seem just as original. Their music always has a message, more of a spiritual or moral resonance rather than political. (Think more pro-human rights instead of anti-anything.) Even their “personal” songs about love, romance, loss, etc. are so poetic and beautiful.
I love that UA-cam video. Bullet the Blue Sky and The End of the World are their best songs live IMO.
If they tour again you should jump on tickets right away cuz they sell out every show EVERYWHERE. I saw them many years ago -- one of the best shows I've seen! "In the Name of Love" will always be one of my favorites.

Bono is known to go see things for himself, after the live aid concert he went to Ethiopia and realized very little of the money they raised went there, it had some inspiration for where the streets have no name. This song was inspired by a trip to Nicaragua where he saw a lot of the ravages of war, and I think he actually got shot at. The song is about how all of the major nations are involved in arms sales and proxy wars. The song October was written about God, "kingdoms rise, kingdoms fall, but your kingdom goes on and on." I think you'll see that throughout they're music.
Glad you enjoyed that small segment of a U2 concert. The first song is from their second album October. I have seen them twice. In ‘83 and ‘05. In ‘83 they didn’t have all of the elaborate staging. The video screens and stuff. Still an amazing show. In ‘05 they did. It was a Saturday night. At the end I thought, I don’t need to go to church tomorrow cause I just went to church tonight. It was like that.
Blessed to say I’ve seen them 9 times and counting! Saw this concert live in Chicago! They did 5 shows and I was there for 3 of them! Never once did I get sick of seeing this performance live💯

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed seeing your reaction to my favorite band- the comments show, you Get It! I’ve seen them live several times (not nearly enough, lol), and every time, it’s an Experience! The most recent show was in 2018, where I was fortunate to be on the front row, and I can still feel the power of the music. You absolutely HAVE to see them when they tour next- you will never forget it.
And you’re right, the members of the band are all heavily involved in philanthropy, physically and financially. Bono is the most visible, but Edge, Larry and Adam are right there too, donating millions to the World Fund and other projects, and Edge with Music Rising, directly benefiting the musicians affected by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Amnesty International, Product (Red), the One Foundation , too much to count.
But you have to live the experience! Please, please see them live when you have the opportunity. You don’t have to go to Paris or Dublin (although seeing them perform in Dublin is the entirety of my bucket list), just see them wherever you can!
U2 live is unlike any other concert experience! It’s hard to understand how unless you’ve experienced it...but they manage to make a crowd of 60K in a stadium feel intimate! U2 and their longtime fans have a really strong connection. They’re the only band I traveled from Texas to see live: Chicago, San Diego, and Tulsa...so far!
You have to see them live to really experience them. Live is what they are famous for. It’s a communal elevation that cannot be described.

Greatest live act ever. Period. 40 years strong. Their original Paris show for this tour was cancelled due to a terrorist attack. They returned to Paris at the end of the tour and performed this incredible show. Check out their 1985 Live Aid performance, and their Super bowl Halftime show from 2002. A few months after 9/11. I've seen them live 11 times on 7 tours and they never disappoint.

I have been lucky enough to see this amazing iconic band live many times. Starting in 1983 at Red Rocks and every tour that came to Denver since. 1000's of concerts in my life ( I'm 55 ) and no band has ever come with it live like U2. Far and away the best live band ever. Bucket List Experience !
I can share the experience of seeing U2 live 3 times in my city in Argentina, PopMart, Vertigo and 360° tours and I can tell you guys without any doubt or exaggerating things that U2 concerts are beyond music, this concerts are otherworldly experiences. This Mythical band has this mastery on converging big spectacle with profound, deep and soul touching performances, you just feel like you're elevated to the skies but at the same time you feel in touch with yourself and your soul and the souls of the thousands of people in the show, it's like a mystical thing that happened every time I was in a U2 concert, every time
I've seen them twice, but I never got that sense of their shows. And I'm a major U2 fan, but only of their 1978-1982 era, of which I'm involved in tribute band endeavors. Though I appreciate their later output, but I'm not into that.
I’ve seen U2 live six times, in DC and Chicago. It’s magical. They’re the only band I know who can give you a religious experience in a stadium or an arena. It’s like a revival. You wind up feeling like you love the whole crowd.
Also, you nailed it with respect to Bono. He grew up in Dublin, he was sort of a working class kid in the 60’s and 70’s during the era in Ireland where the north and south were racked by terrorism. Locked in a lowkey war. And these four guys have been a band since 1976. They’ve got more than a dozen records. And they have apartments in New York and mansions in France. And since the late 1990’s I think they’ve been struggling with their identity. Because they’ve always been active in social and political causes, but they definitely reached the point where they’re SO successful (and getting old, in terms of rock stars) that they’re sort of not as relevant as they once were... but they’re one of the great rock bands of all time, they’re legends, and they’ve always tried to give back.
These two songs you just listened to, October and BBS, are from the 80’s - 1982 and 1987 - and Bono drastically changed the lyrics to BBS in this performance to reflect his internal struggle. The tour this was from was called “Innocence + Experience,” which reflects their most recent records, “Songs of Innocence” and “Songs of Experience,” which are, respectively, a look back at their roots sort of rediscovering why they became a band in the first place, and a sort of examination of the present state of the world in light of that rediscovery. This performance really encapsulates that.
I’ve been to a lot of rock and metal concerts. Nothing touches U2. Their live show will stay with you forever.

75% of the time their music has a social message. One song they sing is about Billie Holiday "Angel of Harlem" and a great song with BB King "When love comes to town" Bono won the NAACP Image Award among many many others.

I am somewhat of a concert junkie. Been to over 350 concerts, ranging from Massive stadium and arena tours to tiny clubs. From up and coming artists to legends. Ive seen Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, Lionel Ritchie, Pixies, The National, Prince, NIN, New Order, Lorde, Jurassic 5, Stevie Wonder, Foo Fighters, Moby, Outkast, TV on the Radio, LCD Soundsystem, Elvis Costello, Pet Shop Boys, Muse, Killers, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Coldplay, De la Soul, Flaming Lips, Radiohead, a ton of local acts., and so much more.
No one comes anywhere close to seeing U2 live. Most of these artist were great live. A few had great technology, a few had great set pieces, a few were extremely intimate, a few really tore the place up, a few had mesmerizing vocal performances, a few had epic guitar histrionics, a few got everyone dancing etc.
From my own personal experience, U2 outperforms everyone in each of those individual areas, and in many cases by ALOT (they are untouchable and ahead of everyone in terms of technology and also its creative use in the live setting). On top of that, they are far superior in that in one concert, sometimes in a sing song, they do ALL of that. Many acts only great in one of those areas.
But what is even better is that they weave it all into a masterful experience. You hit on the exact perfect word. It not only describes their performances, but it also happens to be the title of the tour and album this video came from - Songs of Experience / The Experience + Innocence Tour.
Prince is a master musician. He can outplay most artists on many instruments. His shows are a kaleidoscope of instrumentation and playing. He will often jump onto multiple instruments within a show. It is a sight to behold. Yet he is a distant secondary tier behind U2 live. Even when seeing him play up close and intimate in his hey day at Glam Slam for a private show, it was not nearly as intimate as U2 can be.
Prince, Radiohead and many of the great live acts, perform AT you. It is all about the musician. Despite (and in many ways, with the use of technology), U2 perform WITH the audience. This is not merely in singalongs - which they do better than most. Bono knows, in the moment when to signal the band, and the sound engineers to bring the mix ands lights down. Sometimes these moments are built into the show, sometimes they are instinctual and spontaneous. The sing-alongs themselves are orchestrated by Bono and the band to either carry forward, build, and weave perfectly in with the band. Bono many times will pull people on stage to dance, hug, play guitar etc. He does this for only the songs where it makes most sense. Many times you can see the spontaneity as he reads audiences signs, either bringing them on stage, and/or incorporating into lyrics etc. Their performance and staging is very much focused on audience. U2 invented the B stage. They also brought it lower for better crowd interaction, where many artists using technology either purposefully or inadvertently created a separation/barrier. You can see the progression of Muse's live shows, where at the beginning they got lost in the technology, but after opening multiple times for U2 they gradually started to learn to not get swallowed by it.
From the beginning of U2 putting on grand epic technology infused stadium shows, they already knew how to use it to bring the audience in. ZooTV was groundbreaking in so many ways, not just for the BStage. But even there, the manner in which they incorporated it from the beginning, was well executed. ZooTV was a technological beast. It was multimedia overload, way ahead of its time. This was intentional. It was in response to all the things going on in the world and CNN and cable news and TV coming into our living room at warp speed. This was before the internet and smartphones. So it was designed to be an overload of stimulus and randomness. A mindf@#k. But in the middle of the show, both physically and in terms of shown-time, they did a completely stopped down mindset at the Bstage. All humongous multitude of monitor off from the main stage, just the 4 of them in a small mini BStage, on acoustic instruments, with a single spotlight. Here again they show their gift of performance intimacy and connection to audience. But this wasn't merely great staging and craft in bringing artist and audience together, it was also a statement in an of itself. Amidst all the Technology and crazyness of that concert, there we could all strip everything away, turn everything off, and be as one.
U2 are storytellers and their show brings you on a journey, an Experience. It is not just a collection of masterfully played songs, at you. It is connection. And there may be the crux of U2 shows. For all the staging, performance, craft, technology, musicianship, U2 really know how to turn it all into an experience which makes us think and feel, and touches our humanity.

So much great stuff you touched on here, but I’ll just “second” about Bono’s spontaneity at shows. For example, the people who are pulled up on stage are NOT audience plants. I know someone who was pulled up on stage to sing with Bono at a show I was at. Definitely not a plant. Just Bono being spontaneous & connecting with the audience.
But...“time waits for no man”; U2 are getting older. So anyone who’s curious to see them should do so soon-while they’re still healthy & energetic enough to deliver at the standard they’ve set for themselves. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

As a 19 years old i have had a honour to see them twice, 360 tour and joshua tree tour 2017. After those concerts i felt like i was reborn. I have many favorite artists, but when it comes to the concerts there is nobody that comes even close to U2.

One of the greatest performances of this song. I’ve seen them 13 times. The best version is ‘93 Sydney ZooTV. Edges solo is insane. Love this one cause of the nod to Zooropa, Paul Hardcastle, and the homage to Hendrix. No one beats U2 live. No one.
I been to two concerts of u2 and they were excellent. I loved it .. I couldn't hold my excitement. A dream come true

Best live band ever. Saw them live in Melbourne, Australia 1983, they were so good my sister and I saw them 3 nights in a row, they were awesome. Got to see them again in Sydney in 1989.

I was many time on U2 concert.. And thay be all.. Wuff including on a tour.. Exempel 360 Tour.. I saw it on Friday live in Zurich. One day later.. A total different concert.. Absolute amazing both of them.

Being at a U2 show is beyond anything you can experience musicly! No matter where you are in a stadium or indoor arena you feel every single feeling your head and heart can feel! Bono has always said, no matter where you are at a show he's singing to you and looking at you, no preferential treatment at a U2 show! And I found it true, as though he was singing to me, and me alone, the man is so touching! And never fear! Ever show sounds crystal clear! They have the best sound system ever!

I've seen several U2 concerts but the one that will always stick in my memory is the show at Madison square garden right after 9/11. There was a cloth going down the center of the garden and they projected the victim's names from the terror attacks as they sang and it just was bone chilling. Definitely react to U2 live they're such a great band in person.
Songs of the top my head to recommend are 40, desire, pride, one, sometimes you can't make it on your own, city of winding lights, and streets have no name.
Watch their Super Bowl halftime performance....talk about emotional.....if you haven’t seen it.

The 'story' is that Bono has always been an activist, but many people won't forgive him his fame and money. Try to listen to an 80's version of this song, the words are quite different for this reason. Also, U2 live is one of the best things that can happen to music lovers😉

Oh wow my favorite band. I heard these guys back in the day and they were different. To this day when I hear New Years Day, I go back to decades to a friends Ford Accord when my friend slipped on a U2 cassette.

This is one of the most powerful performances by any band, EVER. Whatever you think of Bono, I challenge anybody to watch this from start to finish and not conclude that he is one of the greatest front men OF ALL TIME. Nobody MEANS IT like Bono. This is SPECTACULAR.

The young boy who looked "A whole lot like me" was Bono's younger self kicking his ass, putting his mind back on track, and reminding him of who he is.

At a young age I was lucky enough to see you live in Ireland and Manchester and can honestly say they blew me away and whenever I see or hear anything from those live shows I still find myself with tears of joy in my eyes.

Yep saw them in 92 for the first time in Madison Wisconsin and even though I was way back it was like I was front row like there was not a bad seat in the house. Then I got to see them in 2001 front and center of the heart shape catwalk and it was amazing!
I’ve been a U2 fan since 1982, and after all those years they’re still my favourite band. They are absolutely brilliant live. I haven’t seen them live nearly enough. They’ve never been content to rest on their laurels, but have always pushed themselves musically where other bands might have been content to rely on old hits. They’ve changed musical direction several times - I recommend checking out their Zoo tv era tour around the time of the ‘Achtung Baby’ and ‘Zooropa’ albums.
If you haven’t watched their performance at Live Aid, you have to check it out. That was what launched them on to the world stage.
Their music touches the soul.
The song is so visual and is like a soundtrack to its own movie.
Had an opportunity to see U2 here in NYC back in 2001. We happen to get tickets to see them from the corporate suite at Madison Square Garden. As you saw in that video they kick ass

I saw them “live” in 2009!!! Was the most amazing event!! Not just a concert!! What is so powerful about U2 is that they Are Not Fake!! They do so much stuff around the world to fund and help all kinds of people. And they do it away from publicity.

Wow, this was quite an answer to his critics. I love Bono, I always have and always will. He's not a perfect man, but he's a good man with a good heart and he's gifted my life with so much beautiful music.
I've see U2 5 times. It is an experience and worth every penny. You will have goosebumps. I usually cry. 😊 Going to the Joshua Tree show with my now adult kids? That was probably one of the best nights of my life.

thank you for putting this video on and seeing how powerful of a platform U2 has to speak about the problems that we all are all facing, not only in america, but around the world. they've done that since day one. i've seen them live many times, but that's not really relevant right now. the live performances send many more messages than their regular videos (not to detract from any) because they always improvise and tell much so much more. there are SO many songs that i could mention, but i BEG of you (even if you don't post it) to watch at least the video of their halftime performance at superbowl 36. they only played 2 songs, but they are beautiful, and by the end you'll be in tears. guaranteed. re-watching it still makes me cry until this day.
