There's the cute, funny Super Mario Sunshine and Animal Crossing costume commercial, and then there's other ones like Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, the Mario Party commercials the Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker, and more. I have had 3 different friends who offered to play Mario Party 7 with me, only to discover their disc was broken. 3 seperate times, 3 completely different friends, all of them with a broken disc of Mario Party 7. I will truly never know if it is any good.

The Pikmin 2 commercial lives rent free in my head to this very day, and I'm sad it didn't show up here.
These gamecube commercials are weird but they're also very nostalgic for me. I remember seeing them on tv all the time.

Nintendo in the early to mid 2000's: What if David Fincher and Terry Gilliam made our commercials?
Geist was a western-developed game that was published by Nintendo. It was a first person shooter where you played as a ghost who could possess objects, animals, and people. Nintendo wanted this to be their Halo-killer, but it ended up being a pretty meh shooter that had some interesting but poorly executed ideas.
Geist is such a good game, not at all meh, isn't equivalent to Halo at all since it's not really competitive but it's great
@@rescuerex7031 There's certainly parts of it that I like, as some of the puzzles are pretty cool. But the actual shooter gameplay I found to be pretty generic. Granted, I'm not huge on shooters to begin with (love me some TimeSplitters though) and am not huge on Halo either, but I found Geist to be particularly awkward.
It has been quite a while since I've played it, so maybe my opinion would change if I played it now... But it's definitely not the Halo killer Nintendo wanted it to be.

I love how "Everyone hated Star Fox Adventures" is a lie so deeply ingrained into the internet's subconscious that now people forget that it actually sold super well.

Me: It is actually my favorite Starfox game. it is pretty much Starfox mixed with Legend of Zelda, and it was also created by Rare.
I think the guy with the long hair driving the golf cart in the Double Dash commercial also played a recurring role of Harris Trinsky in the Critically acclaimed tv show Freaks and Geeks, which came out around that time.
9:24 oml. Geist was one of those obscure GC games I played as a kid. I remember one of my cousins owned the game and we would just puts hours into the multiplayer and somewhat into the story. Man that unlocked an old memory for me

That Mario Superstar Baseball commercial has got to be one of my favorite video game commercials of all time. The timing in it is excellent.
It might not be the most popular one, but I loved Mario Party 7 so much! It's definitely my favorite, all the boards were so interesting and it had some great minigames
Even after all these years, the Hotel Mario stuff still kills me every time.
Mario Party 7 I enjoyed, especially after Mario Party 6 got a disc scratch so bad it stopped working for me. Now costs over $100 for a replacement copy.
But they both share the orb mechanic which I enjoyed immensely. Kept the boards fresh each time you play, added personal flair to everyone's turns tiptoeing around your spaces, and another strategy to use your coins besides stars.

The sonic heroes commercial with all the old super heroes always cracked me up as a kid.
The dark commercials are super weird, but I was also very confused by how Eternal Darkness, which is SUPPOSED to be dark but is about eldritch horror, not like... SAW or something.
That Star Fox is the only one I've ever played, so YES PEEBS people played it... and it did not awaken something in me, but I'm sure it did for many people lol.

I literally just finished playing Star Fox Adventure XD It was a bucket list game to finish from my childhood, and is it the best game? No... did I thoroughly enjoy it? Yep!

Weird thing to notice but the young guy driving the old lady in the airport during the double dash commercial is from “Freaks & Geeks” which is an underrated gem of a show and way before it’s time.
I was always under the impression that the Mario sunshine song was “clean is neater than dirty, and dirty is meaner than clean!”
I have to say, I normally am not much of a fan of old game commercial videos because they usually focus on just American commercials and presume a greater collaboration with the company than really exists (Nintendo almost certainly just hired an advertisement agency and gave little oversight). But I liked how you really mixed it up with more international commercials to balance it out.

Mario Party 7 is my absolute favorite almost exclusively for its 8 player mode. I love getting together 7 friends and having a blast with full human 8 player games

I'm the only person I know who has played Geist. Pretty solid multiplayer (not online obviously), but I remember the campaign being present fun. It's an FPS where you play as a ghost and can possess people, but first you had to solve puzzles to scare people enough so that they are more susceptible to possession. Cool concept, pretty decent execution.
I remember so many of these! The Luigi's Mansion one used to scare me, though...
I remember the commercial where Bowser gets pelted with baseballs. It's still funny
I remember the Double Dash, Baseball and Mario Party commercials, but I don't remember the others lol. I also don't know if I've ever seen those Mario Sunshine commercials. It used to be a game that grabbed my attention, but I don't know why lol. I remember it was one of the main reason I wanted a Gamecube and tried it and then stopped playing lol.
The only things Pikmin awakens in people is 1) anxiety and 2) a desire to have a garden.
Felt proud of calling Geist before the title card came up. That unlocked a memory. lol. Everybody was swearing up and down it was the new bestest FPS when it came out and then it proceeded to just evaporate into the annals of history like so many "yo, this is the new greatest FPS" games have before and after it. Anybody remember Black for PS2? No? Funny, that was also supposed to be the new greatest FPS ever. lol. Time makes fools of us all.
The part in Mario party 5 where they invade the Soviet union is my favorite

Mario Party 7 is like Mario Party 6 but Bowser instead of day cycle, Lucky Duel instead of fixed wagers and Chance Time, more consequential orbs, and a justification for a character Tier list outside of CPU.

Mario Party 7 is one of the best Mario games of all time. I am absolutely willing to die on that hill. It had fantastic games like Fun Run, Pokey Pummel... It had some of the best duel mini-games. It had mic mini-games you could exploit for tons of money! The Bowser mini-games were great too.

Why do we have an era of game commercials that don't actually show the game? Box art did this a bit, too, like when Final Fantasy Tactics had nothing on the cover but a sword. "Oooh, a girl crying and blank cover art. These are the games I want to play!"
These all make the gamecube look like super powerful but in reality it's hardware limitations are why some games were changed

I agree! I think Mario Kart should have 2-player per kart option! My gf is NOT good at driving games AT ALL. So, she cannot enjoy any of the Mario Kart games, EXCEPT Mario Kart Double Dash. She loves riding on the back of the kart while I drive, and she controls using the power-ups, doing the mini-turbos, and punching opponents as they try to pass. It's the most fun we have in ANY video game. BRING BACK THE DOUBLE DASH COMPONENT!!

my sis and i grew up on MP7 and later MP4, 7 is probably our favorite mario party because we have so many memories of the fantastic maps and minigames
