    The play was too much fun to delete the video for the mistake at the end, here's the retcon:
    I didn't realize this until after the game was over, but I forgot to gain Ethairna's bonus for having two pieces of a legendary Set - until the last two turns of the game, which is when I needed it the most. However, it didn't work like I think it did. Which caused me at 1:38:37 to choose to NOT melee attack (remember this).
    1:34:40 is when the bonus trigger happened, then at 1:35:42 I take the retaliation hit, but I didn't notice until 1:38:37, when I granted the missing focus point to myself. HOWEVER, after the game was over, and checking the FAQ, General (pg. 2), Q: "When are Triggered Abilities resolved?" Answer 1 applies, which means I could NOT have received the +1 (it would have put me over max Focus BEFORE costs were paid), the +1 Focus is gained after the successful roll, when I was already at max Focus, as if it was an unused die bonus. So, boo. :(
    Incorrect: 8(started with max Focus) - 5(cost) - 2(retaliate) +1 (set bonus gain) = 2
    Correct: 8(started max) +0 (set bonus gain can't go above max) -5(cost) -2(retaliate) = 1
    HOWEVER, the very next die roll was at 1:41:11 and was a 5, +2, +2. If we pretend back at 1:38:37 (when I chose not to make the final desperation melee attack roll because I thought I had 2 Focus instead of 1) that 5 and +2 was made for the melee weapon (and not a +2, +2, as she only rolls 2 die for STR) it would have been a successful hit for 7 + 2 + 1 - 8 = 2 damage.
    :)

    Great strat is before attacking use your research get that free spell so when you do a good roll like you did you don’t waste the energy

    A good way to keep track of what cards contain minions and which ones don't is to rotate the cards in each of the dungeons decks at different angles. Keep Deck A right-side-up, rotate Deck B 90 degrees, and turn Deck C upside-down. With this arrangement, you'll know at a glance which rooms might have the minions and which ones definitely won't because the minions will only be in the ones where the arch is on its side.

      Ah, this is a great idea. I have these little tokens I've been using to keep track. It makes a huge difference for me once I can "see" the stacks.

    Great game! 4:00 In your discussion of stealth: Using stealth prevents damage when an enemy shows up. However, you have to cast stealth ahead of time when you are exploring and not when the enemy shows up. You never used it anyway. :) At around 1:29:00 during the end boss battle, one strategy for dealing with a boss with a long range is use their Lair. A boss' range does not extend into or out of their Lair. So you can use that fact and keep players you don't want to get hit out (or in) the Lair when the boss is rampaging. Also, those bonus effects from the Lair spaces can be super helpful when you have to get past the boss' high shield values. 1:35:00 Your timing assumption is correct: Roll, choose dice, (manipulate if desired), if the roll value is successful gain the bonuses, then cast spell (paying focus cost). You also didn't seem to be taking into account two things: 1) Phoenix set gives you focus just for casting a spell. This happens before anything else. 2) The dragon's counter attack for spells happens *before* you cast. So when you decide to cast a spell you immediately gain Phoenix bonus and immediately lose focus from Dragon's counter. 1:42:10 The dragon is not "the easy boss" because he has one altar token. In fact, it's the opposite. He's so hard, we are given a break to only need one altar token! The numbers of altars is usually part of the boss' balancing mechanism. The more there are probably means it's easier to hit the boss, so you are stopped from inflicting too much damage by having to spend time and focus taunting them around the dungeon.

      Thank you! The timing of all of this is what is confusing. I tried to catch my mistake myself before the video went live and I wrote (in the video description, not comments) what I *thought* I messed up with the Phoenix set and boss counter - which I think lines up with what you're saying, except I have the counter (-2 Focus) timing wrong.
      I was at 8 Focus (max) and should have "gained 1 Focus because of Phoenix - that I can't gain because already at max - so I'm still at 8" due to Phoenix, then countered for -2, cast for -5, (leaving me 1 Focus, and NOT gaining 1 after all that because Phoenix bonus happens FIRST, not after).
      Just learning this and it is so much fun, but I feel like I need a flowchart of events to get some of these timings correct (like Arkham Horror LCG has!) - I never would be able to work out Stealth in this game unless you explained it to me.
      edit:
      boardgamegeek.com/thread/2814246/article/39474011#39474011
      Just found this. The -2 Focus is ALSO part of a regular counterattack. So I ignored the counterattack dice roll and just assumed it was an anti-spellcaster type retaliate. It's BOTH. Good to know, but I rolled a 3 for the counter and her armor was 3 (so I guess it looked like I know what I was doing but I didn't :).)

    That ending was pretty exciting to watch for sure. I'm on my 7th play of the game and absolutely loving it so far. Probably my favourite solo board game to play at this point.
    I also like to use the dungeon deck tile rotation trick which others have already mentioned here - that alone makes act 1 a bit easier since it's easy to be focused on exploring the right tiles.
    And about the dragon - while it only has one altar requirement it's a pretty tough boss since it has more armor and its attacks have more area of effect than other bosses. With that huge armor it tests the gear of the heroes more than most other bosses since if you don't have a lot of damage it's hard to get much damage through at all.

      I am at the point I am certain I am complete trash at this game. I have played a few more games since this and it's fail after fail after fail.

    When you moved the Stabby Goblin after the Troglodyte appeared, you only moved him one space instead of his movement of four. This would have put him on the same space as the Sorceress rather than one space way. It didn't make a difference though as she could still have taken the move she did and killed them both with her spell.
    I like that you're doing what I did, trying different thematic teams to see how they work. It took a few goes for me even to make it to act 2 as some teams work better than others and loot makes a big difference. I think getting through act 1 is the harder bit of the game with the time limit (not that act 2 is easy mind...).

    • @CeePhour
      @CeePhour  Рік тому +1

      Whoops! Good catch. I'm glad it didn't make a difference though.
      I got slaughtered by this game, it's way harder than I thought, but turned out to be a ton of fun. Still even after 10 or so plays I don't always get to Act 2! Keeping track of the tiles helped immensely though. Then a lot of it seems to come down to gear to defeat the boss. Thankfully you DO get a ton of loot, but with so many cards you might never get the ones you want.

    1:19:51 There is a pack of boss meeples available. They're nice, big, screen-printed, and imposing too, though you can't fit them into the TED box.

      @CeePhour  Рік тому

      Oh wow, thanks. I missed that. I love that kind of stuff, but I love being able to cram everything into as few boxes as possible more. :) As it is I need to work out a better way to get what I have into the boxes. Sleeves are a huge space killer.

    Hi, very interesting video! Where did you find the manual you are using during this game? It's not the default manual inside the original box. Could you share it?

    Hi, I'm from Brazil and bought this super game too...I liked your gameplays a lot, but there one thing you're doing that gives you some advantages: after doing an heroic action (blue), you can't never move. And sometimes you did that...but this didn't take the beauty of your gameplays!!!

      Thank you!
      I'm certain I've made so many mistakes, but just to check, was it Move -> Heroic Action -> Move? Because that's NOT legal. But you can Heroic Action -> Move OR Move -> Heroic Action.
      I somehow constantly mess up rules I very well know :)

    • @edgarloureirogarrido7844
      @edgarloureirogarrido7844 Рік тому +1

      No, man, I think you can't...in the movement section in my 7th manual's page says something like this in english: "do an heroic action will end your movement"...

      But there's something that you are not doing that will help you sometimes: the goblins and minions range attacks must have line of sight...they doesn't do curves

    One thing you did which I *believe* is a mistake, is you can’t roll more than three hero dice (even if you have abilities that grant you more).

    • @StogieFarts
      @StogieFarts Рік тому

      I had a screenshot to share but apparently UA-cam doesn’t let you post those.
      It’s in the rulebook under Skill Checks where it says, “You can never roll more than 3 Hero Dice (even if abilities grant more) and always roll at least one die, if negative effects cause your Skill amount to be zero or a negative number.”

    • @CeePhour
      @CeePhour  Рік тому

      Somehow I make lots of mistakes on rules I very well know. You definitely can't roll more than three or less than one. Without putting you out, what was the time in the video where it happened? I only have three hero dice, so I must have really messed up to some how to roll four hero dice!

    • @StogieFarts
      @StogieFarts Рік тому +1

      You know something? It’s my fault. At 1:22:22 and a few times thereafter, it looked like four heroic die, but it’s just the lighting made the enemy die look like a black color.
      So I think I saw all four die and it looked like they were all black. Ooops!
      Anyway, love your chroma key setup with the closeup shots of the rolled dice and cards. Makes it so much more enjoyable to watch than other play throughs on other channels.

    • @CeePhour

      Oooh! I wondered about that as a possibility, that stupid glare causes me all sorts of problems (there's a light right above the dice tray that sometimes causes a nasty reflection). It's just so handy I like to use it :) I looked at your timestamp, you are 100% right, it looks very black there. Cheers!
