I love Robert Parker’s Spenser novels but had no idea he wrote westerns. I’m definitely getting those thanks for heads up!

I also thought My Dark Vanessa was a pretty extraordinary book. Disturbing but very powerful.

I’m loving the new series of Doctor Who. I’m curious to hear your thoughts about Dot and Bubble. Mark Morris is a huge Doctor Who fan, and we had an interesting conversation about that episode with others on his Facebook page.
I’m so glad you took my recommendation for Appaloosa and enjoyed it. Like Spencer and Hawk, the relationship between the characters is everything.

Westerns have been a huge influence on my writing over the years. Especially the idea of the code of honour among western heroes. It's all fed into my books, as the hero of my thriller series is a man with his own set of principles, sense of duty, and honour.

For JotR I read 'Doc' by Mary Doria Russell. It was great.

Olly! I'm so glad that you're reading My Dark Vanessa. I haven't personally mentioned it to you before that I remember but it's one of my top 50 books of all time and I'm happy that you seem to also see the merits of it. I deffo thought it was disturbing, but it was disturbing because the author respected the topic and portrayed it accurately. It was such an exceptional book.
Currently reading "The Kindly Ones" and re-reading Assassin's Aprentice with my husband at night.

I read Open Season (Joe Pickett #1) and it was great! Modern cowboy game warden set in the Rockies. I'm about halfway through book 2 and it's... not as good.

Always enjoy catching up with you. Do you have a second hand wishlist? I frequently spot books in charity shops and the like which I think you might like but never know whether it's one you would like.

Great wrap up and it seems like you had a good reading week. Deliver Me was kind of half-baked. I'll do the same thing a friend did to me, "You didn't like Deliver Me? You have to read Motherthing by Ainslie Hogarth." At least I got the black comedy of that book.

APPALOOSA is very good. Parker was well-suited to the western genre. His long-running roller coaster ride of men-women relationships in the Spenser books and Jesse Stone series just became a slog and wore me out, honestly. The depiction in Parker's westerns is a bit more palatable.
I like westerns a lot, but Louis L'Amour is hit or miss for me.
