approaching and landing on Maui, Hawaii's main airport at Kahului

This shows the tail end of our American Airlines flight from Dallas, TX to Kahului, Maui, Hawaii. This video shows us approaching Maui from the south and then flying over the "saddle" towards the main airport (OGG) at Kahului. For anyone flying to Maui from the Midwest (St. Louis in our case), going through Dallas was the longest flight time (in terms of actual time in the air) we have ever experienced. Our flight back through Phoenix was almost 2 hours flying time shorter. Our American flight to Maui was much better than our last flight on United, but pales in comparison to KLM/Delta service to Europe in terms of food, beverages, entertainment options and overall service. The flight to Europe on Delta/KLM in economy was way more deluxe than economy to Maui.

Its technically an overseas flight from California as Hawaii is not part of North America but Polynesia.

It's also a longer flight than many people realize. It takes us longer to fly to Maui from St. Louis than it does to fly to Europe. And you're right. That would be a great trivia question or Jeopardy question because I don't think anyone on the mainland U.S. even thinks about Hawaii in that geographical sense. Nice observation. Thanks.

Thanks for the video. I'm planning on going back to Maui next summer. American now has premium economy from Dallas which is what we plan to fly home on the red eye. Premium economy is only slightly more and about the same price as Delta's economy, but much nicer and larger seats. And free alcohol, perfect for a red eye!

Thanks for the info on premium economy on American. Great to know they actually gave it to you. We have tried upgrades with them but almost every time they have cancelled the flight and then not refunded our money for the upgrade so extremely wary of ever upgrading on American again. But I'm glad that some people do actually get the benefit of it.
