  • Work on the extension to Bardon Hill Quarry is now well underway.
Since planning permission was first granted back in 2011, workers at North West Leicestershire’s largest single employer, Aggregate Industries in Coalville, have been busy preparing the new site for quarry work to begin.
The crushed volcanic rock produced from the existing quarry has been used in hundreds of infrastructure projects all over the country, from the construction of the Olympic Park to the Shard & Crossrail in London, but the existing site will be exhausted within the next 5 years.
The quarry extension which is situated on the east side of Bardon Hill towards the M1 will be fully operational at the beginning of 2018, but there is much to do in the meantime.
I’ve been on a tour of the site with Estate Manager, Graham King, but I started overlooking the existing quarry with Steve Harle, Works Manager at Bardon Hill Quarry.

Why bother leaving the top? You could keep going and take out the M1 and the A50. It really makes the Charnwood forest attractive!. Try using the footpaths - a joke.
