  • The Mazda6 has been upgraded with a 2.5L four-cylinder dynamic pressure turbo-charged motor! This was a good choice by Mazda, because the new Mazda6 is torquey, fun, and luxurious. But it's not without it's quirks....

    Most nice looking sedan for last 7 years. "Look boring and not stand out". :). One of the best handling front wheel drive non sport sedans "i`m not bored to drive it".Also 0-60 for 8 sec is not slow is adequate. (For Europe is nippy).

    Hey man Dads need cars too. :-) I have the 2018 GT with the Turbo and I think this was a spot on review. I think you sell the fun factor a little bit short, only because I'm not sure what would really be more fun in this price range and general size. An Accord 2.0T? It really compares pretty well to some of my pre-dad 'fun' cars, it handles almost as well as my MK5 GTI and is probably quicker. If they sold this car with a manual and a LSD it would make a great reasonably priced 'sporty' sedan, but Mazda is all about entry luxury market now.

    Thomas, excellent review of a very good Mazda 6. One thing about Mazda, they tend to listen to criticism, which is why I fully expect the back up and 360 cameras to be changed out sooner than later. The only real criticism in every review I have read or seen on this vehicle. Other than that, well done Mazda.

      ... Is it the cameras (we have a cx5) or is it the screen's resolution? Daytime is fine, but night (darkness) performance is absolutely horrible. The pixelation is atrocious and bright areas cause too much saturation. We have ours set to dim when lights are on and brightnes/contrast are +3 up from middle.

    Active Driving Display and you're right about the steering. I work for Mazda and also own a 2014 Mazda 3 s GT. The Mazda 3 has the best steering in the lineup, MX-5 included because it's slightly heavy and lends into itself at higher speed. MX-5 steering can sometimes have a dead feeling off center and the Mazda 6 steering has gotten too light.

    Overall nice well-thought out review that doesnt simply repeat the spec sheet. Your observations are very similar to mine. I recently moved from a 2016 6 to a new 2018 Sig (same spec as the one youre driving). The tires were really my only beef with the car and I had those swapped out. I also did enjoy driving the 2016, which was wonderfully balanced with an engine that needed to be revved for max performance-but that was part of the fun. The 2018 is just a better car all around IMO and is a testament to Mazda's engineering given its nearly a 6 year old design.
    I will say that I AM a fan of the infotainment and like you did find some of the functions a little unintuitive to start. But I think after a slight learning curve the issues go away. Point of fact, one of the things I enjoy about newer Mazdas is the Infotainment UX. Once Apple CP and Android Auto come out it will be pretty much perfect IMO. I also test drove quite a few cars before deciding on the 6 and many of the infotainment systems, including Yuri's much lauded Hyundai, had quirks and weird interfacing choices that seemed worse to me. But ultimately its whatever works for you. Even if your main qualifying metric is whether it rewinds satellite radio. 😉

    Is it better for a lower trim car to look like the higher trims or higher trims looking like the lower trims? Just wait for those LED DRL/headlights to go south; talk about a wake up call. I like the direction Mazda is going and am considering the sport trim w/man6spd but is it a better car than similar offerings fron honda and vw? (current cx5 owner)
    The GT/Signature trims are nice places to be however I believe the 2.5t could benefit from traditional turbo tuning to make it feel more responsive. I know how Mazda designed the turbine exhaust passages for quicker spooling, but in general turbos like to breathe on both the cool and hot sides.
    Hopefully this new trim/platform along w/Mazda's racing efforts will spawn a new speed6 (and speed3) and inject that 'zoom zoom into a segment that desperately needs a shot of adrenaline to bring buyers back into the car segment.
    I just want Mazda to bring the 6wagon to the states...w/a manual option of course.

    HI, Can you review 2018 accord 2.0t sport and do comparison with 18 mazda 6 turbo. the 6 turbo has quite big torque number over accord 2.0t. but some reviews shown the accord is faster than 6 and sportier on driving dynamic. please do the review on accord 2.0t and find out which one is more attractive.

    • @MrAngelzer0
      @MrAngelzer0 5 років тому

      comes down to transmission and HP. I also think the accord is lighter as well and from what i recall better factory tires.

    • @aidensnow5017
      @aidensnow5017 Рік тому

      I've raced my friends Accord 2.0t several times in my 6 Signature. The accord is a bit faster from a complete stop but past 40mph the Mazda 6 out pulls the Accord, even up past 100 the Mazda will continue to out pull the Accord.
      The Mazda feels like it has more useable power but the extra gears on the accords transmission help it pull from a stop a little bit cleaner.
      That's just stock, the Mazda has way more potential for power in the after market, but seeing as the Mazda is a 2.5L and the Accord is only a 2.0L that shouldn't be surprising. The Mazda can easily pass 310 horsepower and 380 LB of torque with a simple tune, Mazda limits a lot of the engines power to try and help combat wheel spin... It's a FWD car after all, and after tuning mine I can honestly say there's a limit to how much power you can put down in a FWD car before it starts to seriously impact your day to day driving experience.
      These are FWD family cars, they ride nice and have decent power but if your looking to impress anyone with power a FWD mid size shouldn't be your first option... They both have more then enough power to make most people happy, both are reliable, just pick whatever looks the best to you cus you can't go wrong with either.

    Owner of a 2007 Mazda Speed6 Grand Touring. Wish they put AWD in this vehicle would definitely consider it for a daily. FWD can’t get out of my driveway without assistance even with really good snow tires if we get 4+ inches of snow which is very frequent in the winter. Would rather grab the CX5 turbo or the 3 AWD.

    Was recently looking to replace my 2013 MK6 GTI (Stage I Tune) and (for reasons to complicated to explain) I considered several of the revamped sedans for 2018: 2.0L Turbo Accord Touring, the V6 Camry XSE, and the Mazda6 Signature trim.
    I've owned several Mazdas and like the brand. And being accustomed to a turbo 4 banger, I was expecting quite a kick from the "6". Oddly, I found the Mazda to feel and perform more like the naturally aspirated Camry than the Honda. Not as quick, of course. Both the Camry and the Honda were significantly quicker but the Mazda's performance was quite adequate. It was not, however, a typical turbo performance pattern. More like the linear acceleration of the Toyota. I wasn't necessarily disappointed, just puzzled. I've since decided that it was a deliberate design/engineering decision on Mazda's part. The 2.5L four banger in both the CX9 and now the Mazda6 seems to be purposely designed to deliver low end torque and respectable, but not exciting, overall performance without the typical turbo surge.
    All in all, I found the Mazda to be a fine vehicle. As most reviewers have noted, it has a great exterior design and a near luxury interior . The cameras were certainly below par but I don't watch movies on the screen when I'm backing up or parking. Likewise, the overall infotainment system was less impressive than the Mazda's competitors but except for the (current) absence of Apple Carplay/Android Auto it was adequate. Handling was typical Mazda -- definitely above average but not as superior to competitors as was once the case. The six speed transmission wasn't as impressive as the newer designs from Toyota and (especially) Honda. But as someone who prefers to change gears myself, the wider ratios of the six speed Mazda are probably preferable, anyway.
    I liked the Mazda a lot. But when push came to shove I couldn't resist replacing my GTI with a 2018 version.

    • @AndresSalazarAutos
      @AndresSalazarAutos 5 років тому

      I think it is on purpose, since Mazda doesn't have the AWD for the turbo Mazda6, they have to restrict torque delivery, I've drive a CX-9 Turbo quite often and even though that thing is way heavier than the 6, it really does push you back into the seat. If and when Mazda is able to put an AWD in the 6 they will be able to make all that power and torque available, just my though after experiencing the 2.5 turbo, an excellent power plant but most definitely toned down for the FWD application.

    Ok the zoom was painful to watch as an owner... So easy to use this system. Only complaint is it is a little slow when you first start the car, but after that it is as quick as you can move the dial which is also a huge advantage to just a touch screen. Also some of the settings are only available using the touch screen whether driving or not. That being said, it is the only time I touch the screen because the dial and quick access buttons are so easy, it keeps you in driving position and your eyes on the road. I hit the nav button beside the dial, turn the dial to the left, click it, turn dial again for desired zoom. The hard part is moving the cursor around. And finally the best part of this car is cops aren't looking at you or for you like in a hatchback...

    Finally someone speaks against the styling. I seriously do not get the fandom saying that this looks beautiful. The front end is great, but everything else about it just looks generic. Love or hate the Accord or Camry styling, at least it has some. I don't think this Mazda 6 rear end is "under-stated", I think it's just flat out un-styled.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 6 років тому +6

      exviaevox: Styling is obviously subjective but imo I think the Mazda will age far better than its main competitors. The front end of the Honda Accord looks (to me) as if it was designed by a committee. And the Camry looks like it escaped from a 1930's Flash Gordon scifi serial. Great spaceship but as a car, not so much.

    • @ocramidajzj
      @ocramidajzj 6 років тому +2

      exyiaevox yeah as the owner of a 2018 6 and also a 2016 6, the styling is one of the attractive features. Its a fine line between timeless and overstyled. The Mazda IMO is timeless. Not as timeless as a german or european car, but close to it. They are favoring the lines of a Jaguar and Maserati over the lines of some oragami figure. Honda Accord is nice up to that damned beak. Not sure how Honda keeps making the same mistakes especially after living through (and thankfully fixing) the Acura beak era.
