    Videos like this are why I got a Megatower a few days ago. I have had a Hightower LT (V1) for a few years and it's been an awesome all-around bike, but not super great at climbing or going down really rough stuff, so I bought a Ripley a few months ago for easier trails, climbing, and long rides, and now the Megatower is going to take care of the heavy chunky downhill. What a bike!

    I recently bought a Megatower, and I am blown away by this bike! Granted, I don't have nearly as much experience as Jason, in years or on as many bikes, but for my money, it's awesome. I'm 5'9, I came off of a large 5010 and am on a large Megatower now. Though I know it shouldn't feel as maneuverable or as playful, to me, it really truly does. Now, it's an aluminum 5010 and actually weighed slightly more than the Megatower in carbon, but I can't think of a single thing I'd prefer to do on the 5010 over the Megatower at this point. Again, I don't have anywhere near as much experience as Jason, and this is just my opinion, but for people wondering - the Megatower is absolutely mega. More supple, more supportive, more stable, and, as cliche as it is, much more confidence inspiring.

    Hi J,
    You probably don’t remember me but I bought a Tallboy 3 based on your review and recommendation of it a couple of years ago...plus a few demos too. Anyhow, you nailed that review as an “everyman’s bike” and I absolutely love it so I’m looking to you for guidance on this: I ride the Tallboy literally everywhere and I discovered the joy of lift served DH last year at Winterpark, Crested Butte, and Steamboat which are all a bit much for my Tallboy 😂...but still much, much fun!!
    So, as i really liked the 27.5” [plus in the Tallboy), I was looking at a Nomad as a dual purpose but mostly park bike, but the Megatower seems like a better option as it probably does the uphill (when needed as “another” bike when my son comes to visit) a tad bit better and I’m only losing 10mm of travel but with 29” wheels for when this old guy wants to bike park it....???
    I truly respect your opinions as your guidance has been spot on!!!
    Thanks a ton and keep up the great work on the vids...love them,
    John

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  5 років тому

      John, thank you! Yeah, the Mega would be an incredible park bike but honestly, for something you still want to peddle around maybe take a look at the Ibis Ripmo. It's incredible everywhere and almost as good as the Megatower on the longer high speed descents. Good luck and thanks for the comment and saying what's up!

  • @deanherde805

    Hey Jason, what would win in a fist fight between the Megatower and the Yeti SB150?
    Oh and your ability to casually do a bike review whilst pinning it at Mach chicken never ceases to do my head in.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  5 років тому +2

      haha Dean, thank you! Great question. I think the sb150 wins in all the fist fights, thumb wars and rock, paper, scissors contests... it just edges out the mega in every area in my opinion and I got a chance to ride them back to back on two days. The mega is super fun and has a great "smile" or "fun" factor to it. It's unreal the feeling it gives you on the descent... not that it's better than the sb150 but it just feels bottomless and very supportive on the chunky high speed sections

    • @deanherde805
      @deanherde805 5 років тому

    How does the 2018 bronson compare to the 2019 bronson as an overall trail bike? I can get a really good deal on a 2018 XE build and I’m close to pulling the trigger but want to know if it’s better in any ways over the newer bronson. Climbing performance is important. Thanks.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  5 років тому

      @devd3831 5 років тому

      Cool thanks for the reply, the other bike I’m comparing it to is a 2019 Rocky Mountain altitude c50, hoes does the altitude compare the the older bronson? I could get the bronson in the XE build for 4K a long with the c50 so at that price the bronson has better components with elite suspension etc. but I’m just curious how the altitude compares.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  5 років тому

      For me this would be an easy decision. The RM Altitude out classes the Bronson as a trail bike in almost every way. It's more similar to the previous Bronson than the current model Bronson. The Altitude climbs better, feels more playful and poppy but when it's time to get serious, the Altitude doesn't get pushed around on the trail and feel incredibly stable. Reach out to Mike at Utah Mountain Biking in Lehi, Utah... #801-653-2689 he'll get you killer pricing on an Altitude... maybe you could even spring for the C70... you won't be disappointed in the RM Altitude dude... for sure that's the direction I'd go!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  5 років тому +2

      Yeah, right at 30% sag in the shock. I often times fine myself at close to 25-35 psi higher than my body weight in many of the shocks I ride... on the megatower I was closer to my actual rider weight... I started at 145 psi, went up as high as 160 psi and settled in at 152 psi for the best amount of cush and still supportive and pedal friendly. I weigh 140 lbs

      @@mtbyumyum sounds good! I was curious where it was set based on your feedback in the review. I have my S build in the 'hi' position, short chainstays and I added a 'Gnar Dog' token to the SD shock and settled at 30% to maybe a sliver deeper than 30% sag. The Hightower LT is the better "trail" bike in my opinion... I felt the same way when the new Bronson came out.... the previous Bronson is the better do everything all day trail bike. That said, the Mega climbs as well or even better than the HTLT... crazy I know... even after riding the Mega more than 45 miles and 6,000 vertical feet of climbing I was shocked how much better it was than I thought it would be. If you're a Santa Cruz fan boi and don't want to look at other brands, the HTLT is an excellent do everything capable trail bike... but, there are better options available right now if you don't have to have a Santa Cruz....
