But I still like what you are doing, My question to you is------- Have you ever thought of bringing some younger people on your channel and teach or show them the basics on what you do? I would think some people would like to learn, but just need a boost. Annie😊
Ian, former Toyota Master Tech here. Did you know that the 4th gen 4runner was available with a 2UZ and the engine compartment and whole front half of the frame are identical? Knowing this now, would you have looked for one of those for a parts vehicle? The oil pan from that would have fit as well as your A/C and P/S lines without pricey custom work. There's a good chance those motor mounts would have fit too. You'd still need the bellhousing adaptor/flywheel setup you got, but there would be a bunch more compatible parts that would swap over from the 4runner.
Yes I did learn that...I looked at the 4Tunnrr pan...but finding one was hard...and then finding one for a parts vehicle I think would actually be more expensive than the swap using the Tundra. I love the idea and if I could of found one I would of bought it
Wowwww. I feel like a pioneer since I am one of the few people to swap a UZ into a Toyota pickup back in 2012. Still have the truck and it’s fun and dead reliable.
Dang you Sir are Badd Ass!!! Most of us don’t have the skills, the $$$, nor the place to take on such an endeavor, bit we still appreciate you documenting this for is, definitely a lot of guys’ dream to do something like this, myself included, damn awesome job!
I had an LS Swap done. Went with a 5.3 all aluminum L33 in front of a Tremec TKX wide ratio into my Regular Cab 5 lug with a TrueTrec. We worked with an LS Swap motor mount company. They now sell the mounts for $180 using a Holly 302-1 oil pan copy. Sold the 2TR for $6500 in less then an hour it only had 36k miles.
Ian, on the fuel line, I have much better success heating up the barbed fitting rather than the plastic hose. It don't need to be hot, just warm enough to make the plastic pliable.
This build is SICK! SICK! Love it! If this video had been around when I built my cummins ranger in 2014, I would have done this instead. Incredibly awesome Ian! Great Job!
I did a few things different but same swap its a fun truck. The AC lines from the GX470 or the 4runner will work with this swap also v6 tacoma powersteering lines are perfect for the swap also
Thanks for that info...it really wasn't bad getting my custom made ones done locally and I was able to just re use the old lines from the donor truck and the Taco
As a person that builds “import” engines for a living I can attest to the fasteners not all being common lengths on a component. Some fasteners are not only unique in length but also in diameter as well when you consider the 7mm bolts used to fasten the camshafts in. Wrong bolts installed isn’t just an issue while working on an engine after the fact like you are Ian. It can still happen in the factory.
I remember years ago when Toyota made a one off Tacoma with a 4.7 and displayed it at SEMA in 2006 I think. It was pretty sweet extended cab with a five foot box in a matte green/olive color. It was pretty sweet. There’s another guy on UA-cam that swapped in the 5.7 but his was far from seamless installation and pretty Frankenstein’d.
I had that engine in my 06 4Runner and I loved it. It was the best option period for a 4Runner. And it actually got better gas mileage with the v8. I could get 21 mpg with it campared to 18 mpg out of my 4.0 Tacoma.

I bought an upgraded m2 pro. I went 12/19 and 1tb. It’s replacing my 2017 i7 27” iMac
You are one motivated man, thats alot of work and talent, no lie, im not gunna lie ive never thought about that combination before but why not the put a 4.7 in a 4runner of that same bodystyle so why not a hotrod pickup, come on toyota lol
Great job! The camera gimble spin thing detracts away from your work though and makes your awesome work harder to watch.
Yeah...but its easier to shoot
@@BigTireGarage - I totally understand that. I would be all like "jUsT eDiT iT aLL OuT" but I'm the world laziest editor when it comes to my own videos. I once made a video on recovering the seat that was one continuous shot for nearly an hour. Complete with horrible audio. 😁
Thanks great video going to put 2UZ in my 1984 C10 Scottsdale after buying three LS engines sold as good when pulled turn out to be junk
Best of luck! Sounds like a cool swap
Great Content Ian as usual!!! I like to twist my wires together after running thru a solder connector, then pull the solder connector back over it. Adds a bit of strength as you have the twisted connection plus the solder band. Great Product, has made wiring a much easier, one of those break thru products if you ask me. Great Swap and Build Series!!!!
Great tip!
Thanks for that!!!
Super cool build, work, fab, and knowledge Ian! Cool to see L.T. in the mix also! Super sharp dude in his own right … does everything by the book like yourself! 👍🏻
LT is great!!!
I love watching your builds and dreaming that I had your shop and knowledge to finish my own swap project and have it turn out this good. VW BHW into MB W116 chassis
That is awesome!
Can't wait to see you take it off road
Awesome truck! Looks like a blast to drive.
Also, pro tip. Make your clutch bleeder line long enough to reach your brake master. You can then crack it open, put it inside, and then bleed the line by yourself with ease 🤘🏻
Or a speed bleeder too
I had no idea that super saiyan knew how to swap a drivetrain. Cool.
Great job I’m thinking of doing a hellcat in 2013 ji two door
That would be pretty cool...scary short wheelbase
