This is far more entertaining and vastly more informative as opposed to the MT channel's short quips coupled with commercials but we get it why MT has to do it that way. Your doggo is too cool and reminds us of our little min-pin, Gabbasaurus. She passed a couple of years back and your doggo can pass for her twin, just a bit bigger. Cheers!

What would be super sweet to do a 1st gen 4runner / pickup but 22re 5spd transfer case doubler and cool Toyota axle... Everything built here had 30 splines which screams convert a solid front axle to idk 8.4 8.8 third member.. a Toyota is something everyone can build
For the front diff, can you a Torsen diff from the frs/86/brz. It is an 8”. It is 95%drop in. The side gear “may” depending on that application, have to have a it machined for the snap ring on the axles. For carrier bearing, you will need to add a 5mm spacer on one side, and machine 5mm off the the other side. It will require the 3rd gen Supra carrier bearings as they are thinner. Good thing about a torsen, if a wheel that does not have traction, lightly apply the brakes, that Will give a load for the worm gears to engage and drive the tire that has friction. Very smooth and easy on driveline. Last, depending on application, the ring gear bolt holes might need to be machined to a bigger diameter. There are no lock tabs, so use red locktite
Great video and simple to understand. Looking forward to getting these 4Runner diffs installed this coming weekend and doing some donuts in the street with Blane. Gotta break em good! 😂🎉
Yup, this just reaffirms that I never want to setup gears. I will eat labor costs on that one, that crap is tedious!! I'll do just about any other work but something about having to take things apart and put them back together multiple times on purpose and not because I forgot something grates me lol.
On the Clamshell front. You didn't replace the inner pinion race.. I really wanted to see how you do this. I do a few of these a month. I ended up making my own tool, so I'm able to get the inner race in super easy now.
I would like to know if a limited slip diff in the rear of a 2000 4runner be worth the cost, truck has an open diff now , and is it the same prosses shown in your great air locker video? Truck has a 3.4 with 4:10 gears 31 in tires and a TRD supercharger , auto trans ?
Ian, where do you find the time to learn all this information.. holy moses.. lol also, im a little curious about the chevy on the lift. Is it a project or a job? Lol

I’ve watched this video a couple of times trying to get as much info on the clamshell ifs diffs. I’m putting new bronco M210 in my 2020 ford ranger and will be changing the gears. Do you think that diff will be about the same for all clamshell ifs diffs? They have a factory elocker in them. That would be what I’d like to see you work on next!!
Is there a reason you use a bolt and your hand instead of something like the bleepinjeep yoke install tool? When I did my rear end (ford 8.8) I found it impossible to get enough torque without it
Great informational video and gear install techniques. I would really love to see an Isuzu 10-bolt front axle regeared. If you ever get a chance to install an ARB or TRE locker in it I'd love to know how to setup a pattern. Great videos, thank you.
Hello and goodmorning and Happy New Year. I'm New subscribe, so my question is the 2nd Gen 4.0 V6 Tacoma and 2.7 4 Cylinder, is the front Differentials the same as far as external features and Internal Carrier sizes. I blew my front carrier ( 4.0 v6), Toyota clai.s that theres none available throughout the country and they were not sure when will it be available, so i end up purshasing through EBay from the same year 2005 Tacoma 4wD that came o u t of 2.7 4cylinder.FEATURES
WHOA-- Hold on there "Mr Heat Miser!!!" Never set side bearing pre-load with a punch. I was taught to use a proper tool. A piece of flat stock with two bolts to fit in the 'holes' and a big enough bolt and nut in the center and torque it to at least 105lbs.
Where did you get the x .7 backlash calculation from? I had 0.008 @ the pinion flange. I just reused the factory shims that came in it when i installed a eaton E locker in the front of my 01 Tacoma and wired the power into the 4LO safety computer brain for the rear electric factory locker design so it can’t be used except when in 4LO for protection for the Diff and driving safety. Those Arbs seals in the collar with the copper line tend to leak and those 7.5” front clamshell diff are alot of work to tale apart to replace unlike the rear diff 8”/8.25” design or a American diff cover design.
I’m looking to regear my 21 Tacoma 4.88 and install a rear Elocker into an auto non e locker diff. It looks like the diff for my truck has those adjuster nuts on the rear. Would I still use the shims my kit comes with or could I set the backless with just using adjuster nuts?
For the front diff, did you just stay with the current needle bearing setup or changed it out to a bushing? And it is really that necessary to change it to a bushing?
The ARB eliminated the needle bearings....the open carrier I left with the needle bearings...maybe worth the uograde if you were gonna go hard core crawler....but why leave it IFS if that that is the end goal

i fail to understand why people still use crush sleeves. aside from just trying to blindly succeed. their purpose is only to make it less likely to over torque the pinion when finding proper bearing preload.
@@BigTireGarage ive had no issue without anything between my pinion bearings you can use loctite retaining compound. The differential housing takes all the load of the pinion bearing preload all the time with or without a spacer, unpopular opinion but if you study it for a while you'll see its lack of purpose.
