The chair's existing color on the top and sides is likely influencing the look of the new stain. Try painting a larger section so you can judge it on its own and see how well it goes with the wall color.
The dogs look sooooo cute looking up to the tape measure! A new bed frame with storage as a replacement for the old california king impostor bed frame sounds like a very good idea!
