Man....where to even begin? For starters, I'd like to thank Aaron, Greg, Jake and Ted for the hospitality and for the opportunity to chase public land whitetails as a complete rookie. You all taught me a tremendous amount in such a short period of time. For you guys to sacrifice your time and your own hunt during some of the best days all year long to show me the ropes was awesome.
I love your style of hunting...the strategy the aggressive nature of your set-up's and your willingness to push the envelope vs. more traditional ways I've heard of hunting these deer growing up out west. In all reality, it is so similar to how we hunt out west. Mobile, full of hard work and a brotherhood with the guys that is truly special.
You'll never feel lower while hunting then when you can't recover a deer or an elk or any animal for that matter. Thank you so much for the positive reinforcement, the persistence and the drive to keep pushing through this difficult process. I can't tell you how much it means to me.
Doug and Kash are the real deal and I'd hire them for their services again in a heartbeat. Doug is very passionate about blood tracking and you can see it in his work. He's professional, works his tail off and like I mentioned sets very realistic expectations walking into every track job. If you live near him...keep this in mind for a resource shall things go south.
We made a decision years ago at Hush to show everything. Good and bad, because after all, this is real. THP feels the same way and although its tough to be vulnerable in a situation like this we would rather keep it real vs. edit out the truth of our hunts. These situations are more common that what you'd be led to believe by watching outdoor TV and that is another reason we love the You Tube platform so much.
Lastly, to The Hunting Public nation....you guys are amazing! Please continue to support this great group of men as they try to live out their dream. They are what you see. Down to earth average guys just like all of us and I can tell you first hand that I'm one of their biggest fans. This is real hunting and sometimes it is not always picture perfect but I said it before I have a lot of respect THP for showing the raw real reality. We as true hunters do everything we can to make that perfect shot and the heart break we feel when we don't shows the respect and love we carry for the animals we chase. That respect and love is the mark of a true hunter. As you pointed out I have completely stopped watching outdoor tv for this reason, they are not real for the major part. Keep your head up brother, I am proud of the effort you all put in, can not do much more then that. Much respect for the no fluff , real deal reality of hunting whitetail. I've had two bucks not recovered over the 23 years I have been hunting. One taken with a bow and a true southern monster buck taken with a shotgun when i was 18. I was sick about it. Tracked the deer for two days with family and had what seemed to be gallons of blood to trail. I went back everyday I was off work for a month. I applaud the effort you guys put in to try and get to your deer. Keep up the great work you guys.

I have hunted deer with a bow for 48 seasons now. I have been on countless deer tracks going all the way back to the old recurve days with gas lanterns. You guys went above and beyond to recover this deer. I commend you on your efforts. Your hunting ethics are unrivaled and your work ethic at both pursuing and recovering deer are an inspiration. No shame. You did your best and that is all anyone can do.

I gotta say, out of all THP videos I've watched, this one gets my highest level of respect. You guys are the real deal and not afraid to show it, good or bad. Keep up the great work fellas.
This happened to me last Friday, shot was a tad back and low, only difference was mine was a full pass through. Clipped the front of the stomach and the bottom of the liver. Unfortunately it was raining hard all day, so no blood to track. Grid searched the area after letting the deer sit for 6 hrs. Found nothing and got pretty down about it. Regrouped that night, made a plan and went back the next morning. Found the deer on the complete opposite side of the property, and was still warm to the touch when I found him. Lived at least 26-28 hrs after the shot. First deer with a bow, this definitely opened my eyes on how important it is to do everything in my power to find it. Spent at least 12 hrs walking around and every minute was worth it.
Brandon Shaw I shot a nice eight last night, the shot looked too far back so we let him go for the night. We woke up early searched for about 8 hours, we tracked blood for about 400 yards at the start and then we couldn’t see anymore blood. Would’ve been my first deer ever. I’m about ready to sell my hunting stuff after that.
Nickerbockers ASMR don’t get too down. It happens to everyone. I recommend looking for buzzards and crows in the next couple of days. Just keep working on being the best shot you can be and get back out there!

I’ve been watching the back log of videos here, and just came across this video after losing my first deer 2 days ago. I exhausted my efforts, but it still hurts bad. This video helped a lot. All we can do is learn and keep huntin.
We actually called in a dog for the first time down in Virginia this past week. My brother hit one of our hit-listers and thought he doubled lung it, and footage looked good. after the shot it rained for about an hour and was raining while we tracked it, after about two hours we made it 100 yards then the blood basically washed away. Called in a dog from Nose to the ground in virginia and got hooked up with Nathan and Candy. and after about 15 to 20 min she found the right trail then less then 10 min later found the buck, he made a complete circle and fell 60 yards behind the stand, total about 200 yards around. Its amazing how fast and easy a dog can make a track. Too bad you guys couldnt find the buck. Goodluck the rest of you guys!
At 27:15 is Ted horizontal with his bow release still on his arm. Now that's dedication!!!
Clint Ward this is what happens to guy that has walked three miles in a swamp and then realized that he forgot his release aid the third or forth time and you just sleep with it on your arm don’t you ted.
You guys are massively honorable spending that much time energy and resources trying to recover that deer. Good job

Ol Ted is on another level from the rest of us. He sleeps with his gear on. I really enjoy the videos you guys put out. I hunt mostly public land so I can relate. It’s a challenge especially late season.
The outcome wasn't what any bowhunter wants to face. It is a reality of hunting and one that every hunter needs to understand. Thanks to THP for setting a great example in exhausting the search for this deer. Can't ask for more than that. Good luck to Bmack out west.
I've been in this situation, three times. This year I was able to harvest my first deer, stomach hit. Took him 12+ hours to die and covered 1200 yards (850 before first bed). The only reason I would have found this buck without the dogs is because he ended up dying in someone's front yard, but the emotional roller coaster sucks!
I have experienced this on both sides, the dogs really make quick work of a down deer. My wife hit a deer last year opening day in the liver and it was the same outcome as this one unfortunately.
This will be the 4th year ive been tracking deer with my dogs and its a tough thing. Just when you think youve seen everything the deer school you in a new way. I always tell my clients, if we cant find it in an hour its not dead yet. I feel like that is true in 90% of the trails ive decided to take up. I think the craziest verification was a buck shot with a .243, hit high. We picked up the trail 2 days after the hit, found him in his bed and jumped him.
I have a massive amount of respect for how tough and resilient these animals are.
Man that’s a gut wrencher. Stuff like that happens you guys exhausted all efforts, it’s extremely commendable that you guys showed this because it’s real life! 👍🏼

One of my best friends(who lives in Indiana, and i visit every year in november to hunt with) buddy just killed a 205" deer in late October. Spent 2 days tracking, called United Blood Trackers, and found his deer that same day with the dog! Talk about an emotional ride, and a worldclass whitetail recovered. If it's legal, use a dog, it's incredible how good they are!
It's great reading through the comments and none were negative. I think that speaks volumes to you, your content and your followers.

Such a stressful video to watch. It brings back that knot in the stomach that I'm sure all hunters have experienced at one time or another. That was a tough loss, but you guys definitely put in your "due diligence" on this hunt.
Been there done that it truly sucks! But you exhausted ever single thing you could, and you learned a few things along the way. You learned woodsmanship, things you would do different next time around. Keep hunting and honoring our sport of hunting, and good luck this season to you and the boys.

i know this is an old video ,but i ve had a couple of the same thing . this explained to me . thanks , never thought of a stomach hit on a water blood trail for days and never caught to the bucks . alway thought lever then gut it wasnt a gut shot or i d smelled it but the water blood in this video explained it and answered some question of the pass. thanks again .
Third year hunting with a bow. I shot 5 times at my 9 pt this year hit him 3 times. And we just kept tracking and going after him. Got him the next day at 1 pm I shot him at 6:41 the day before. I have learned so much from this and I know better for next year. It was cool for me to see two of my favorite hunting channels coming together. Good luck to everyone this year!
This video correctly shows both the highest of highs bow hunting can bring you and the lowest of lows all in the same episode. I not only appreciate this as a bow hunter myself, but I also appreciate it because this is something that just recently happened to myself. While bow hunting in WI on the 31st of October, I connected with a great buck and like the video perfectly depicts, I was as high as the sky. Later that day after watching the video and seeing that I had hit him further forward than I’d hoped, my excitement slowly slipped into self doubt. Long story short, I too did what I could on my own before instilling the help of a blood tracking dog for the very first time. I utilized the same site and had a great experience, but unfortunately was not able to recover my buck. This still weighs on me too, but you can learn from every experience and I guess it just brings you back to the realization that nobody is perfect and anything can happen, even to the best of hunters. Thanks again fellas and it’s awesome to see you guys collaborating with some of most genuine people in this industry.
Probably the best thing about this channel, and there are many good things, is that ya’ll go back an analyze the shots thoroughly.

It is critical that hunters communicate positive aspects of the blood sport. I believe your program does a good job with Fair Chase. Spending three days looking for a wounded animal went beyond what many in the field would of done. Good for you boys and thanks for sharing your appreciation of nature through participation.

I haven’t finished the episode yet theirs about 4 min left but I felt the need to comment on the persistents of you guys 3 days later tracking this deer. A lot of us hunters need to really strive to do anything and everything you we can do to recover any animal you shoot. I have personally gave up on trails where I knew the deer was dead I just couldn’t find blood, weather, lights going dead exc.. I’m going to go back to the episode I hope all this hard work pays off you guys are A1..
What a great video! I kept waiting and waiting for that recovery but you shared what realistic bow hunting can be. I can truly say you did EVERYTHING you could to recover that deer and people like you make me proud to be a fellow hunter.
as a hunter i admire your diligence and determination with every available method to find the deer. I dont bow hunt and i have never had to track my kill but you guys did the very honorable thing.
This is only my second year bow hunting and I have learned so much from you guys. The highs and lows are definitely real, I missed a nice buck last year and it hurt but it only made me better. Tell him not to feel too bad, it happens! Whitetail deer are difficult to hunt in such thick country and the kill zone is much smaller than something like an elk. After rifle hunting all my life I think it’s almost a joke how easy it is compared to bowhunting. It’s crazy how addicting it is trying to outsmart a mature Whitetail, I’ll probably be a lifer now.
Commendable effort guys. This is the reality with all predators. Sometimes the prey wins to battle, only to ultimately lose the war. Fortunately, though the original hunter doesn't get to claim the prize, nothing goes to waste. The other animals will eat it and the cycle continues. Thankfully, prey animals are a renewable resource and there will be more in the future. All a hunter can do is try his/her best to do better on future attempts. Great job showcasing the highs, and lows, of bowhunting. In the end, if it was a guarantee and without a challenge, then it probably wouldn't be worth attempting. Keep up the good work. You guys are showing what realistic bowhunting is all about. These high dollar, private ranch, farm raised, semi-tame bucks that most of the industry shows being killed in mainstream videos is pure garbage. You guys have it right. Please don't ever sell out and go that route.
I took my yellow lab out once as a last prayer type of thing because she’s not trained but still a dog. I’ll be damned if she didn’t find the buck and the really eye opener was that she had our trail down from the parking lot and pulled me all the way to the stand, first blood and 700 yards later the buck! They say a deers sense of smell is 1000x that of a dog so that really put it in perspective for me

What a crazy timing I just shot a buck today too and found lots of blood but we could not find him. For my buck it only hit one side and did not exit found my broken arrow. It hit kinda high front of shoulder. It looked lung blood but the blood trail ended with little drops. I was so devestated today and then saw this video and I feel a little better. Goodluck next time guys. Always enjoy your video. I appreciate all of you for helping me through your videos.

I appreciate the fact that you guys shared this experience, as most people wouldn't speak of losing a good buck, let alone share the video with the world. In my opinion, that alone speaks volumes for this channel and the men that put the work in to make it happen.
The Hunting Public has became my favorite hunting channel, and I was genuinely jealous of the guy who won the hunt with these guys! That would be an experience of a lifetime for many of us! To witness a tracking dog work is pretty amazing. Pray youll never need one but if you ever do you'll instantly gain a greater respect for man's best friend.

I'm not going to say that you didn't put in a valliant effort. It does happen. When I followed HUSH it seemed this happened quite a bit with these guys. B-Mac said he had an 8 inch window to shoot through. What it comes down to is deciding whether or not to take that shot. If there's a shadow of doubt, don't take it! Keep your heads up guys!

I had almost the exact situation happen to me last year with unfortunately the same outcome. It sucks but like you said you just have to keep hunting.
That’s tough to lose a deer when you are pretty certain it’s dead. Had it happen a few too many times and it hurts. Great content as always!

I lost a buck this year in October with a bow. Makes you sick and It happens. I ended up finding him few days ago tore up and pretty much bones from yotes. However, from looking at him I believe i made a good hit i just did not give him enough time and kept pushing him. A hard lesson learned.
