  • Tractor Time with Tim notices a lot of changes under the hood of his new 2018 John Deere 1025r as he installs wiring for the TKV20 Material Collection System and the Artillian Grapple wiring. The 2014 model JD 1025R looked a lot different under the hood and floorboard. TTWT shows the differences and how he installed the new wiring due to these changes.

This vid is so important for me. Started to figure out , using TerraKing’s instructions, how to pull the wiring harness for the TKV20 on my 2020 1025R. Got stumped how to pull the wiring on the right side and then to the rear. Watched this vid again. Have to say with out this fantastic demonstration don’t think I could have done it. Thank you.

one thing that got me on the difference was when I did my 50 hour service, I watched your video on doing the service and I thought I was going crazy because I could not find the grease fittings on the front axles for the steering. I went through the manual twice and watched your video several times before I checked with my local dealer and he says " oh there is none for that on the 2018" LOL! Hope everything is going great for you all! Shop looks awesome by the way!

Landon Fraser down below is correct. I just went out and looked at my 1025r again, just purchased in February this year, it does have the gap in the hood. Thanks again for promoting the Edge Tamers. Mine finally came, were a five minute install, and I pushed a pile of leaves to see what they would do. No damage to the ground by the bucket edge, made much more of a mess with my R4 tires in the soft earth. Of course we got just enough snow in central NY last night to mak the roads slick for travel but not enough to try plowing with the bucket and Edge Tamers. Thanks for the video. I won’t let my wife see or she will have me taking apart tractor to clean all these books and crannies every week as well!

A tip: To aid in unlatching the hood of my tractor I took a plastic rod appx. 1/4” dia. or just a bit smaller than the opening of the latch release and 1 1/2” long drilled a small hole in one end and put it on the ring with they key. Always with the tractor and might be a safety reminder to shut the tractor off before opening the hood.

Given that the tractor is supposed to use various attachments, I am surprised there is no T channel in the frame for wires and hoses. I am not mechanically inclined but with the Kenworth W900L tractor we had some of the same issues. Thank goodness for zip ties and that slit tubing you were showing we used that for insulation and to prevent chafing. I do not know what it is called but I have seen it also used in commercial iring.

Tim, I also have a 2018 1025R and I noticed the same bolt has fallen out of yours. The bolt/washers/ spacer / flange nut that attaches the fuse panel to the machine. I also noticed you moved the bolt that was originally just in the bottom hole to the top hole. Its amazing on how many of these tractors that that one bolt seems to loosen up and fall out. Luckily for me when i removed the side panel everything except one washer and the flange nut was sitting there. I replaced these flange nuts with Nylock nuts and they haven't moved since.

Tim, two presumptions. The steering column/pedestal is probably used on more than just the 1 series. Obviously it is most likely used on the 2025R. It was probably redesigned to enable it to be used on more than one model, which goes along with what you are saying “economy of scale”. Next, with regard to the baffles just aft of the radiator. I presume that is to help divert air out the side vents of the cowling, this was probably to get heat away from the operator and keep the engine cooler. I’m sure they still want some air to flow around the engine to carry possible fumes away. Just my take on it. Jeff

Did you have to get wire ends to plug into the back side of the fuse box where you added the new fuse? If so where can you get them? Thanks.

John deere now offers a kit for 3rd function hydraulics on the loader with thumb control. $1600

I think Johnny could use some closed cell foam sound insulation on the hood and access panels.

When I purchased my 2018 1025r they mentioned that John Deere was coming out with their own 3rd function kit for the 2018s on. Does anybody know if there is an advantage to using JD’s? It it more streamlined?

From what i know about it is that it will be like the 3rd function on the bigger loaders where the valve is mounted to the tractor and you run hyd. lines out to the loader.

Hi Tim Having trouble starting my 1025R. Battery is good but starter motor makes a click noise and stops. Sometimes it starts especially after I tap the starter with a mallet. I assume I need to replace the starter but wanted to ask if you have any videos that address this issue or what your opinion might be?

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  2 роки тому +1

It sounds like a starter issue. On other machines, we have sometimes been able to get it to "eventually' start by trying repeatedly. switch off/back on/start./ off/back on/start. Often it will eventually start.
How many hours on this machine?

Tim in your video, on top of the engine I notice what appears to be studs sticking up from the top of the engine ...
Similar to the ones that held the old style air cleaner bracket to the top of the engine ...
I'm assuming Yamar didn't make any engine changes over the years??...
