I must say this has been one of the best UA-cam videos on UA-cam in 2023. It feels like a really early Christmas present. Thank you from us all if I can speak for others. ❤❤🎉
Excellent history Joey. A lot of that was very new to me. Thanks for doing all the research and bringing it to us in a concise manner. I appreciated my friend.
I think that this is by far the most detailed video that you have made with historical facts about any Star Wars toy line or company. It is great not only to have a toy but also to know the history and appreciate all the innovation and hard work behind it.
Love this video. As for pallitoy. They came up with some of the best toys ever made. STAR WARS as well as many others. Their Death star is definitely one of my favorite toys ever. Can't go wrong collecting some of their best examples.
Palitoy's version of the Death Star playset is really cool! I think it actually looks more like the rooms in the Death Star than the Kenner version does. I never had a playset as a kid, but I sure love looking at them. I don't have any Palitoy Star Wars stuff, but I do have a talking Dalek and K-9 made by them. Super cool toys! Great video! I learned a lot about the history of Palitoy. I didn't know most of this. I love learning the history and origins of things. Thanks for posting it!
Thank you for this video. I am always interested in the history of toys and toy companies but there has never been any made on Palitoy. I enjoyed this very much.
I had a massive palitoy Action man and Star Wars collection as a kid (I still do have a few complete near mint Action man figures, i had about 75 up until a few years ago but thinned it down 😂) Sadly i only have my original Star Wars Boba Fett from that time, he is pretty mint albeit missing his blaster sadly I still vividly remember my local supermarket having mesh bins near the tills with carded Gredo figures in for 50p back in the early 80’s 😂 man i should have scooped a big arm full of those up and never touched them 😂
An other great video Joey and yes Palitoy was a big company in the toy business. When they shot done Palitoy factory in 1985, France and Spain took over vehicle production. For example the Imperial Shuttle was manufactured in France for the European market with the very same Kenner packaging (without Kenner printed on it) while Spain was making Darth Vader Tie Fighter and X-wing Fighter. In 1984 new E.U. regulations come and multiples European languages package became an obligations for almost everything sold on the European market. this is how 3 logos shows up on the supermarket shelves and toy shops. I can't say that I like it very much as to me it was more fun to have a Palitoy packaging from England or a PBP one from Spain but the positive side of this new E.U. regulation was it free the market so much that we finally get access to many Empire Strikes Back figures who were not available in France during the "Empire" days (1980-82) so it was really nice that change back in the days!
I just started collecting and I’m hyped! You inspired me to start and I purchased my first ever figure it’s a loose bossk that was complete and I got it for $20 my uncle also gave me his old ones so I’m excited to start my journey! Thanks TPC for the inspiration!
Hi Iron Range! That’s awesome you got your first figure and Bossk is a great one, plus you got a great deal on that one! Thanks for watching and talking the time to leave a comment 🙌🏼
Action Force was always my favourite as a kid which is why I bought so few Star Wars figures. I loved both but Action Force always managed to tempt me more.
They made the 1975 talking Dalek toy in the UK which had a tiny plastic record disc in it to create the sounds like a gramophone! I wanted one so badly in the mid-80s...
I have a lot of respect for Palitoy, they helped British kids and collectors get their hands on Star Wars and G I Joe, while offering their own mark with Action Force and stuff like the Death Star and their own variants.
Kenner didn’t have factories in the UK nor did they have distribution logistics set up. That’s why from a budget standpoint, General Foods relied on its acquisitions of Palitoy and Denys Fisher to fulfill that market.
I am so privileged to own a complete Palitoy Death Star since 1991, sold to me by the late Jim Stevenson of the U.K. I consider this to be basically a different playset, like how blue Snaggletooth is really a different figure than red Snaggletooth. I don't include the Palitoy version of the land speeder, X-Wing, Droid Factory and Creature Cantina as completely different playsets/vehicles like the Death Star because they have many of the same parts. Palitoy's versions are inferior to the Kenner versions because of Palitoy's use of vacuform plastics. The playsets have basically the same parts and features, but the Palitoy Death Star is so different than the Kenner version to justify it as a separate playset. The South American versions of the TIE Fighter, standard figures, and other countries versions of the playsets, etc can open up a rabbit hole that is impossible to complete.
I agree it’s a completely big rabbit hole!! I am going to get the Palitoy Death Star but might take the Palitoy Death Star and land of the Jawas of my list. As they are basically the same design
@thepadawancollectorofficial you mean the Droid Factory and Creature Cantina? They are good variations but cheaply made. Fun fact: both versions of the Death Star were offered in Canada. The Palitoy version was sold in Australia. I'm so blessed to have both.
@@thepadawancollectorofficial sure did she used to give out toys to the kids in the street little things like toy cars remember she brought back some rubber spiders I was to scared of em so thay was given out to the local kids
Hey Toshi! It’s ok, you can watch when the video airs :). No one needs to feel obligated to join as a member, I truly appreciate you just watching and liking the video 🙌🏼
Not wanting to offend you Americans, I can't help thinking the innovation and research in plastics and vinyl was lost lost after the take over in 68. The strides they made before this was groundbreaking and once took over, just rolled out tat. Don't get me wrong I loved the figures, action man and action force, but it was just churning out what what America wanted without forward looking innovation. Palitoy could have expanded into any plastic market (I.e. Building and renovation etc) but they sold out......shame. Great video btw, and like I say no offence intended 👍🏻

Great video Joey! Palitoy had such an interesting back story.
Glad you enjoyed it, Jason! This video was a ton of fun to research and make :)
Palitoy is an interesting chapter in those vintage Star Wars toys. Thanks for sharing their history and connections to the Kenner toy line!

Great video Joey. Have my Palitoy Death Star under a perspex dome on a turntable. Love it!
Now thats a perfect way to display this!
Nice Job! Loved it!
The Palitoy Death Star is a coveted piece among vintage Star Wars collectors, can’t wait for that review to drop!

The greatest toy firm of the 20th century !!
I agree. The Star Wars figures were amazing and Action Man then the smaller Action Force were amazing toys.
Indeed!

My wife worked at Palitoy in Coalville in the mid 60s on the production line making Action Man
That’s amazing! Did she get to keep any inventory???
@@thepadawancollectorofficial No just memories ,she remembers it as though it was yesterday she was making action man

I fully agree Tony!
Great video about the best toy company ever. I've got to mention Bob Brechin though 😉 great research but the actually death goes much deeper.
Thanks Blue!
What prevented Kenner from distributing directly in the UK, rather than licensing to Palitoy?
Kenner didn’t have factories in the UK nor did they have distribution logistics set up. That’s why from a budget standpoint, General Foods relied on its acquisitions of Palitoy and Denys Fisher to fulfill that market.
Very interesting episode Joey. Why not do an episode on mecano as well? The Death Star set also appeared in France
