I loved it as a kid, then as you get into working, you forget about these great programmes. Then it weren't till about 10 years ago that I started wanting to reminisce about these programmes I watched as a kid and started finding them on You Tube. I always remembered Follyfoot as it had Arthur English in it, who I had always admired as an actor. Some things like the BBC kids programme The Changes and The Phoenix and The Carpet, I had totally forgotten the name of, but remembered what they were about, then eventually found them too.
Thanks for posting this. I used to watch Follyfoot when I was a tween...it was shown on TV in Canada and I loved it. I wanted to be Dora. It brings back so many memories, watching some of the episodes on UA-cam.
Tonite i finally discovered on UA-cam the tv drama series Follyfoot..what a great discovery.. For many years i had been trying to remember the title of this drama series..i could only remember the beautiful faces of the two teenaged actors, but dont remember their real name.. I watched it when i was 10 y.o..now i m 59..so happy i could watch the real location the drama was shot.. I like the song very much.. Is it called Lightning??
Thank you for the comment. The song was called 'The lightning tree' and was sung by 'The Settlers' Follyfoot has a Facebook group that's called FOLLYFOOT TV SERIES. There are some pictures and videos of Gillian Blake who played Dora on there, Gillian's son Jake is a member of the group. Follyfoot was mainly filmed at Hollin hall Leeds, this is now a private dwelling with a large extension. Some of the out buildings have been knocked down. There is a public footpath that runs past the house but the house is private property. The actor that played Steve is called Steve Hodson. I'm also 59 and watched Follyfoot when I was 10. I also think it was Follyfoot that gave me a life long love of motorbikes.
Thank you for the comment. In 2014 members of the Follyfoot website Forum, including myself, visited Thornhill colliery where the innocents was filmed. The buildings and grounds was being used as Kirklees council building maintenance depot. The depot foreman Rick organised the visit and showed us around. He introduced us to a retired miner who had some nice memories and pictures of the mine when Follyfoot was filmed there. The management made us feel welcome with refreshments, it was a great day, we all had lunch in the local pub afterwards. Sad it was demolished the following year. I have several still photos of the day, somewhere, but no video footage. I was keeping my batteries for my visit to Stockeld park in the afternoon. The memories came flooding back when you walked around the grounds and it was easy to identify some of the areas outside the mine from The innocents. Great day.
Tony Smith I bet the tour was amazing, I wanted to mention in a history documentary that follyfoot filmed at the pit but sadly the footage in the archives are too expensive to use which is a shame. The pit features ink my dvd as I mom emotion the pit disaster. The project will be finished next year Many thanks Simon
Did you film that during Covid lockdown ? My goodness it looks as free from cars as it would’ve been 50 years ago . I live in a tourist area & the place is jammed with motors all year round. I must visit Yorkshire one day for some peace & space 😁👍
0:27 Stockeld park, 0:40 Hollin hall ponds (near Follyfoot farm), 1:00 Forge lane, 1:18 Harewood town hall, 1:44 Thorner, 2:45 Clap gate. All roughly between Leeds and Harrogate UK. Follyfoot farm, the actual building, is now a private residence and completely modernised and unrecognisable, the nearby area hasn't changed much though.
I found it one of the most depressing kids series that class who was the lead role always seemed on the edge of losing it. If you weren't depressed when it started you were by the end credits, thank christ for Christian Rodska.

Longing ... Emotions ... A better time ..
Part of The Innocents was filmed at The Combs, Thornhill.

Ah, the Clapgate, sadly no longer a pub. All very familiar locations to me lived around that area most of my life before moving to Shetland.

I loved it but only remember Dora crying all the time saying 'oh Steve'...bit depressing really 😂
Working on medievalised lyrics to this song - it's based on the Wellerman.
Of course, I hear it now
So where is it ?
