I don't think a 45-70 hollow point or not is going to penetrate level 3 armor, however, I would not want to be on the receiving end wearing that armor when it hit, it's likely to hurt, break some ribs, do a little bit of internal damage, but it won't penetrate, but it's going to hurt you
I like how you guys make armor, test armor, and have a bit of fun. There are great channels that do one of the three , but you guys have all three in one🤝🏽
My hand loaded 45-70 might be a different story. I opted to run a a hardcast 200g bullet with extra +p+ levels of kick. I jokingly refer to them as HVAKs ( high velocity armor killers) it blasted clean through a soft armor vest without even slowing down. It hit the hard plate with enough force to crack the plate. I’ve been experimenting with a 150g jacketed hardcast load and the hottest, heaviest load of powder I can back it up with. I’m pushing almost 3,000 FPS. I truly believe I can get a 45-70 to match a 5.56 for velocity
I don’t think any 45/70 could go through a steel plate without a steel or tungsten core. I think your round would hit a plate so hard the person would instantly get knocked out though
They should have called it a velociraptor gun. Thats probably why the character had it in the first movie. Its pretty reasonable for them, good for the brush, plenty of takedown power for something that size, even with jurrassic worlds dinos being way tougher than their real world counterparts. A bit underpowered for a trex killer. Bring the true elephant rifles in for a trex.
No one in the 1993 film had a 45-70. According to the Internet Movie Firearms Database, Muldoon had a Franchi SPAS-12 12 gauge. The other weapons were M16A2s and Heckler & Koch HK91A2s.
@THall-vi8cp yes, I consider them separate, clearly dramatically different than each other. The jurassic park movies were dinosaur movies, but the jurrasic world movies are more monster movies where there are also dinosaurs in the films.
The plate may have stopped the round but that impact would definitely stop a persons heart and possibly fracturing the Sternum and you’d wish it had killed you for the 6-8 month of agony for that to heal up. I can say if we were to have a civil war in America I’m glad I won’t be the ones facing American Civilians who bought a 45-70 just for the impact against the corrupt government we have in our country
Id like to take this challenge. I have a customized 45-70, call it The Rex, even got the lever screw with a trex stamp from Ranger Precision for it. I shoot 730grain in it. I would love to see what happens to a plate since that bullet takes chunks out of trees.
Energy wise the .45-70 is within the same range as rounds like 7.62x51 NATO and other things Level III is designed to handle. You'll get some bruising and maybe a cracked rib, but you'll survive.
@@kenofken9458you better re check your facts bud. The 45-70 is putting out way more energy than a 308. Dead center. Your sternum is broke and you have possible internal bleeding. That Hornady is a mild energy 45-70 round that is soft. You get up to underwood ammo. It may not penetrate but your day is fucked
@@chrisgeist9046 Most loads I'm seeing are in the same range or lower. I do see there are some hot loads coming in at close to 3,500 foot pounds. If somebody hits you square with one of those and a Level III plate, you're gonna get hurt, no question about it. How relevant that is as a threat assessment that is when choosing body armor is another matter entirely. I'd be very surprised if .45-70 makes up even a tenth of 1 percent of criminal uses of firearms these days.
@kenofken9458 45-70 is my home defense gun. I've tested it on bowling balls. They shatter. Soft body armor will not stop a 460 grain grizzly or amy 45-70 underwood ammo. I'm just saying. People really under estimate the 45-70. It's a beast at 200yrds or less. The 350 grain grizzly will absolutely crush that steel plate into your chest. Your not getting back up and are in dire need of medical attention.
I appreciate your attempt, but you chose a hollow point bullet

@@mp9228 it won't go through a plate but it doesn't look or feel flat where it hits.
You should try the underwood ammo rnds on the plate. 325 grn hornady are meant to expand they are soft rnds with mild muzzle energy.

@@RiqueReelz Someone should make .45-70 sabot rounds.
Quickly 45/70 is a fat slow round. I made this statement before I watched this video. 45/70 will not go through armor.
I'd still like to see test on lvl 3 soft armor from 12 gauge
Good stuff, nice to see odd rounds tested. We're looking forward to torture testing your anti spall coating ourselves.
Factory loads are under powered. You can do a lot better with hand load H4198 powder and a 405 grain hard cast.
Can you try 45-70 xtreme hunter?
I have a soft 500 grain load at @ 1630 and it dents a free hanging 3/8" Birchwood Casey ar500 plate.
Try again with federal trophy bonded bear claw
I'm not sure but are those hollow point bullets? not best for penetration
what about 460 grain or 500 grain? and is there some AP or hard cast to be tested?
