This was actually one of the first major uses of CGI. At this point in history, animal welfare was already a major concern. It was the period of "no animals were harmed in the making of this film", so care had to be taken with the penguins. The smaller penguins in close up shots are real penguins. The larger emperor penguins, if I recall the director's commentary, are actually people in suits. The distant shots of masses of penguins are actually CGI. It is very primitive CGI; if I remember, they cloned and pasted a lot of real penguins to create the 'mass wave' effect, and if you look closely in the distant shots you can see it clearly, though in the low resolution of the era it was far less noticeable. Billy Dee Williams returned as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. It was rumored that Robin Williams was considered for the role of Edward Nyigima/The Riddler. As for the role of Dick Grayson/Robin, not sure whether River Phoenix was considered before his untimely death, or if another big name like Henry Thomas was looked at. Batman Returns kind of had somewhat of a cliffhanger ending with Selina Kyle/Catwoman still being alive and well. Not sure how Dr. Chase Meridian would fit into the story, or if Batman successfully captured Catwoman, and she was sent to Arkham Asylum. If Burton was to have directed Batman & Robin, casting of Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Bane, and Batgirl.

DeVito should have been considered for the Oscar for Supporting Actor that year.
Ностальгия... Один из моих любимых фильмов.
Alfred vs. Poodle Lady, lol!
I ship them
You forgot Michelle Pfeiffer has catwoman was AWESOME also this was the second best batman movie ever
The poodle lady is my favorite character in this movie
Mine too
Too bad she left to never be seen or heard from again
She always stuck in my mind, specifically the very slight change in her (mono)tone of voice when she realizes that something's gone awry.
You have to admit, the penguins they used for the film are cute.
Goons leaving: I’ve already had my ass in the grass with Batman not going through it again
The penguin army are so adorable
I like how his minions left ran away when batman was coming.
Which was the wisest decision a bad guy can make
The Poodle Lady suddenly has some emotion in her voice.
I like how Batman has a face of like" wtf I almost got killed by penguins w freaking rocket launchers??" 1:15
1:14 Why do I love his expression right there :/
Because it was purely "What the hell almost just happened?" 🤣
The two penguins just watching him drive by at 1:12 lmao
1:07 That moment when Batman thought that two penguins would take him down.
lol always liked how the Penguin grunts out of frustration
This scene always give me goosebumps
Those little kamikaze penguins actually look cute with their little rockets strapped to their backs.
