Glad you agree. Although I do not agree with the second part of your statement. If two nannies have exactly the same experience and education, Nanny A lives in a high end, expensive condo and Nanny B lives in an small less expensive apartment, it does not mean that Nanny A should be paid more. Your personal expenses have nothing to do with how much you should be paid.

I think my idea is a good idea if you live in a small town in the States like I do and people don't want to pay you a flat rate of 10 an hour that doesn't include kids. Unfortunately, I've seen parents discuss pay and try to pay their provider $3 an hour. I saw someone post that they don't want to pay enough that their provider can live off of. If you're doing this without an agency than I think parents need to understand that they are financially supporting someone else. It's sad where I'm at because you can work at Taco John's start at $16 full time with benefits. I take into consideration that I choose to watch you kids and invest in them. You're also decided to put a lot of physical and mental energy into the kids. I also take into consideration that we don't get insurance and that kind of sucks because obviously if the kids get sick, you get sick. This might be an unpopular opinion.
Hi Michelle, I have 4 years experience of childcare aged infants to toddlers as a livein nanny. And there I started from from 16$/hour for twins which gradually increase to 21$/hour. Second one was a livein nanny too for 4 kids, usually the primary care was for 8 months old baby. But my job duties included 50%of housekeeping and 50%childcare plus there was a break in the middle of 3 hours with no pay. Housekeeping included cleaning, changing the bed shits of kids.. doing laundries of 6 people in the house, help in cooking, washing, wiping vacuuming a lot of extras. I had to leave my current job because I was not happy with my pay, I was paid 21$/hour for twins with no housekeeping but I do take care of kids laundries and cleaning after them with any mess we made in the playroom or kitchen. Later one was paid 20$/ hour less than previous one but more chores. I am looking for new employers really wanted to go through your agency but never got lucky because I am not able to individually locate in the places without finding the employer!! It’s hard to rent a place and locate myself in the area your services were available with no employment. So I am figuring out myself looking for an employer remotely but before that I need some idea on what I should charge . I have extra language skills but no family cares about that.. they don’t ask you about your education background either. They always compare their previous nanny salary with us.. if they pay them this that’s what I should get kind of thing which I really don’t like it.. could give me an idea what is average rate I can set for a family who looks for a housekeeper and nanny at a same time!? Because I am exhausted at the end doing 2 jobs. How much can I expect for housekeeping/nanny regarding per hour wage net?? Thank you for your advice..
I am sorry you have been unhappy with your last positions and the pay. There is no way for me to weigh in on your salary without knowing where you live, interviewing you and understanding your experience.
It has been like pulling teeth to obtain more than 15$ an hour from families with one kid. I have two Early Childhood Education certificates. and 5 years of part time nanny experience
I’m not sure where you live but we have found in Canada nanny rate have gone up significantly over the last two years. Anywhere from $25-$35+ per hour.

My current rate is $24/hour but I live in downtown San Diego where cost of living is extremely high. I’m not sure how much I should charge anymore?
Even with no experience? In Canada I would agree but for those starting out in the field with no experience they may need to accept less until they have worked more.

After watching the video, I think my rate would be $18/hr for one child. However, I have seen job posts in my area that pay $25/hr or $30/hr, and I plan to apply because I think I would be a good fit for them. Should I tell them that I would only take $18/hr? If so, how would I word it?
Great question!. Never undervalue yourself. If you feel you qualify for the position and have the experience and education required, then set your rate in within the range they are offering.
Reason I’m not in contact: Many temporary jobs or families that could no longer afford me. Do I consider things on a clean slate and just delete everything from my resume besides the swim school (current) and the nanny job I had 7 years ago? That did go well… It’s just sad all those centers, etc that I worked at can’t go on my resume cause I didn’t do well. or I didn’t think I did Actively learning Spanish
You can put all your jobs on your resume but if the last job you can provide a reference for was 7 years ago it will make it difficult to verify your experience.

At The Nanny Solution we only work with nannies already in Canada. I would suggest you find a nanny agency that can help you set up interview with families who are open to working with nannies who are coming from outside the country.

I live in FL in the U.S and the fair labor standards act states that nannies are covered to make minimum time and a half for hours exceeding 40 per week Is it fair to ask for proper overtime compensation ? Also what happens if the family refuses to pay on the books ? Is it still fair to ask for overtime pay for your extra hours ?
Yes, nannies charge for overtime. It depends on your country, state or province as far as what the laws are and the pay for overtime. It is 100% fair to ask for proper overtime compensation. If the family refuses to pay on the books and you insist on getting paid on the books then you don't work for that family. Simple!
Is the difference in rate for live-nannies and live-out nannies usually just a few dollars an hour? That’s what I thought it was, but my moms saying live-in nannies are very different than live-out and usually get paid under minimum wage. None of the research I’ve done support this, but now I’m worried about it anyway. For context, I’m seventeen, have been babysitting for the last four years, and really want to be a live-in nanny after highschool.
Being a live in nanny is for the benefit of the parents. Although many parents try to pay less for live in Nannies they should be paid the same as live out.

Hi there, what qualifies a nanny to teach children academic subjects? Can they be considered like an in home educator if they are homeschooling children or helping them get through virtual learning during covid. Just wondering since lots of nannies also teach children now.
Yes, any nanny can be an in home educator. Homeschooling defiantly counts. Many nannies during covid who were hired for homeschooling had bachelors or masters degrees although it is not a requirement. As long as the parents who hire you to teach their child feel that you have enough education to help their children learn, that is all that matters.

Hi how to charge for 2 shifts a day? There is a break in the middle of the day!? For example 7-12pm and then 19-21, does the hourly pay remains the same starting from 19-21 o clock!? I believe there is an extra charge!? 3 kids after 7pm, any advice!? I find it odd this break in the middle

Yeah 16 an hour is kinda low. I got 20 from a family just to babysit but now, I’m being fought over even charging 20.

That depends on what the family is looking for. If you are hired to teach the children then yes. But not all jobs are teaching jobs.

I am in Canada so o do not know the rates in the US. I suggest reaching out to a nanny agency.
If you live in Sacramento, Los Angeles, or NYC, you should always ALWAYS charge at least 20 per hour.

Most Nannies we work with do not like split shifts. But if the do take a split shift they charge a higher rate because it is a challenging position.
