Mayfield was a musical genius who was ahead of his time, he laid the ground work for many artists who followed, i.e. Hendrix, Prince, Sly, Marley, Kravitz, Weller, Baby Face, Harper, Seal, among others.... Curtis's music is timeless, and his music and message will live on forever!!
Curtis and Hendrix along with sly stone and bob Marley were all contemporaries similar in age although they all had their own niche for different audiences. Curtis was a huge influence on traditional r&b and what would become modern r&b and by extension black guitar players and he truly did inspire the many other artist you list who came to fame after the 70s
