No matter how long I been watching these bee vlogs, I still jump and swat at my ears thinking that there is a bug flying around my head lol. I gotta start watching these without headphones.
It’s amazing to see how MANY bees are in the hive! When you don’t smoke them down you really get a shock to see the mass of grumpy girls telling you to buzz off 😂
I'm not sure why watching these videos of yours is so satisfying...maybe it's because it's something I could never do. I am deathly allergic and it would probably kill me. Sooo....I do it vicariously...through you. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share your wonderful world of bees.
I talked to my husband about bees and getting bees for a long time. It took awhile, but he’s fully on board now. Couldn’t do it without him. He’s my muscle for lifting the heavy boxes. He loves them almost as much as I do🥰.
I have been watching ALL the beekeeping tubes and the neat trick I saw about hive tools is to keep a big magnet in your pocket and stick your tool to that :)
I love watching these with my kids. It's so cool & watching your videos has made bees seem less scary to my kids & far more intriguing. Both my kids said they promise to protect the bees now. Lol. It's cool how just seeing you interact with them taught kids something so powerful. Anyway, maybe I'm just overanalyzing it a bit, but I thought it was pretty neat. Thanks for the videos! We love them!
These bee vlogs greatly help me with being more relaxed around bees. Just the way you are talking about them and being exposed to the buzzing (The more aggressive bees are definitely a level-up). So, thank you for that :D
I was thinking to same thing! I want to know what a queen cup is and more about how the hive works and why. As well as when to harvest and when not to. Very interesting
You are amazing! I learn so much listening and watching your videos! Thank you for sharing your beekeeping activities and for explaining what you are doing while you carryout your chores as a beekeeper.
Funny how people don't like bugs until they start keeping bees...Then you see a change in attitude especially toward the queen :D ... "Oooh she is so beautiful" "Wow, what a gorgeous Queen" etc :D Me too, Love my bee girls. Great Video Emmy, hopefully you have inspired more people to keep bees.
Very good idea to split that big hive and use those valuable (like you said $45 dollars for a new queen) Queen Cells to make a new hive. You don't have to tear down the supercedure cells, the bees will do it once their new queen emerges.
I found that keeping a notebook of things I do each week in the bee hives prevents me from doing stuff like losing the push-in cage. I use an app called “Beeplus” to keep track of my bees.
I was curious about that... The spacing looks adequate, & it looks like there's lots of thick shrubs to buffer the hives... Plus she probably entails one of the tricks chicken owners use... Giving the neighbors some of the eggs, or in the bees case, some honey....🍯🤗♥️
Every time I watch your bee videos and you’re moving the frames and hive boxes around, I say aloud, “Oh no, baby bees, don’t get squished!” I’m so worried about them getting flattened under the weight and movement of everything. But I guess it’s a risk and a hazard of the job. :( Regardless, I love your videos! The whole process is fascinating and I’ve learned so much. ❤️
Just a thought: Pull and end frame first, then remove the others. One end should provide you with more room to avoid rolling bees if you make it a habit to compact to the same side. The frame removed at 16:59 is how queens are killed.
So cool! Must be nice, lol... We have a ground bee around here in the Pacific NW, that is super docile & can sting, but doesn't unless you basically step on one... It's so fun to sit in the fields in spring with them swarming around & making little ground holes... I don't know if I could beekeep with them though?? I don't know if they even make traditional honey... All very fascinating though!! 🐝
Diana Fronsdahl bees that usually nest in the ground are usually solitary bees that don’t and won’t live in hives. You might have seen ‘bee hotels’ around and they are usually for the solitary bees to use
If you put a good strong magnet in your Jean's pocket then even thru your bee suit your hive tool will stick to the outside of your "pocket" then you wont loose it :)
I know nothing about bees but I do love their honey! I was wondering when do you collect the honey? Do you collect all of it at the same time or do you harvest only when it is fullest? Thanks for sharing! Love your video's.
This is my first time watching Emmy's beekeeping video, can you please tell me what's those..uh.. super what.. i don't really know but those things that bees built at 8:12? I'm really curious 💕💕 I love this already!
I have a question.... When you enter the hives and move the boxes around and set them back up, do you end up squashing alot of bees, it seems they are in the way when you are doing this. Thank you
I'm pretty sure she's really careful & if you're slow enough they move out of the way... There are probably some causalities, & that would drive me nuts!!! But I think there is a bit of a gap between the boxes as well, so they don't get smashed...
I really been into this and considering beekeeping. And even tho I’ve watched hundreds of beekeeping videos... watching this just freaked me out like wow that’s a lot of bees. I feel like I’d get scared like omg I have thousands of bees outside my house idk what to do 😂😂
I see that you've been using nitrile gloves a lot lately, but sometimes leather. Some people have reported better luck with nitrile even though thinner, because bees seem not consider them stinging targets. Also more flexible.
I like not using gloves at all bit as you noticed I some time use both nitrile or leather beekeeping gloves. I like the thinner feel of the nitrile but the leather gloves include gauntlets that cover your wrists too.
Emmy, I love watching your bee vlog. But, I just don't understand why you capture Queens so often. Seems like you're always caging one or more for some reason and I find it a little unusual. They're your hives too do with as you see fit but I'm just trying to figure out the logic. 😄
Once I capture a queen I rest her on top of the frames so the hive can still smell her and the reason I cage her is so that I don't accidentally squish or harm her while I inspect the hive.
@@emmymadeextras .. thank you for your quick response. I'd just never seen anyone do that before so I was curious. Thanks again Emmy. I know with all the rain we've had this year the girls don't get out as much as the normally would and they get a little grumpy... i just keep thinking of squished bees when the boxes go back together
mary schreffler same
Yeah, I wonder how she avoids that.
@@theprettyguardian8161 I dont think she avoids it. I think I saw some squashed bees at 10:39 on the side of the box
Gotta also remember some would die because they would be trying to sting Emmy as she tends to the hives.
I think I've heard her say that she jiggles slightly has she lowers the boxes to try to avoid squishing them

@@emmymadeextras If you are still looking for your queen .... She flew away ... look at 9:19 on the left high corner
You are one peculiar human and That’s cool.
When you lose the newly released queen, well just before you talk about it, she is behind the frame in flight.
Around 9:20 you can spot her briefly near the empty space in the hive, bear the top left corner of the frame you’re holding
