I know this video is a few years old now but of course there are many people still looking for used detectors and the MR1/2 in particular so still very relevant. I own the MR1 and it works pretty much flawlessly everywhere I have used it, including the beach on wet sand. The notch on the MR2 would come in handy with the amount of bottle caps on the beach but then as with all types of discrimination you can also be losing valuables too. It is always a compromise. For people coming straight to the MR2 I think they will be fine with it. For those moving from the MR1 it is just a small learning curve but not too steep a one. It may though be worth hanging on for the Nokta Simplex Plus which "should" arrive around October time (2019). Technically an entry level detector it still packs in an amazing array of features and it is fully waterproof to 3 meters! All in all though I am happy with the MR1 :)

Double check your isat on the racer 2. If it's turned up even at all when not needed, you lose depth. It's intended to help with falsing in hard ground In all metal, however it also has an effect in disc modes which was noticed first by Kieth southern early in his testing of this model. It's at 2 or 3 I believe from factory and doesn't need to be that high. I set mine to minimum and never needed to turn it up since. The red racer doesn't have this isat.
Also make sure you don't have the ground tracking on. It greatly affects badly in disc mode.
I haven't noticed your depth differences in my racers.
Also as previous commenter said, the reason your vdi numbers are so different is that the ferrous/nonferrous cutoff on the red racer was at 40 where the racer 2 is at 10, which greatly expands the non ferrous range from 41-99 on racer one to 11-99 on racer 2. It also fixed the "lumping" or "binning" of many targets falling in the mid 80s which many didn't like on the red original racer.
I'm not saying anything if suggested is causing the issues but considering how unsure you were in the video with the racer 2 I thought I'd point possibilities out.

I'm still running the MR1,(actually have 2-of them now).
What setting's did you like to run in that basic yard/park, etc. setting?
Any other settings you liked "Greatly Appreciated"!:)...Thanks

The R2 has more segments of disc so you can fine tune it better to eliminate junk targets, also the sound of the machine is different from the R1. I have also had both detectors and once you get used to the R2 you will find that they are very similar in my opinion. I like the fact that the R2 saves your settings and the settable tone break is nice if you hunt in 2 tone. GL HH

Trust me mate! The MR2 is way better than MR1. You just need to know how to handle it. I owe the MR2 the AT Pro and the Deus. And for 70% i go out with the MR2. HH😉

Believe me mate, it is`nt, get any of the filters and or tone breaks wrong you`ll struggle to find a small piece of lead on the surface, terrible machine. Its going back to the old ways before XP bought out the iron volume/reject settings. Its there for a reason, the MR2 quietening the ground down is backward technology, most machines run quiet, the point of listening to iron in the ground is so the user can adjust to suit, if you`re ignoring whats in the ground you`re defeating the object.
