First weapon I ever used and fell in love with it. My friends said it was the most complicated and I took it as a personal challenge. Really fun! Keep up the videos!
I love Monster Hunter because the Switch Axe is in it. MHTri was my first MH as well, but I never got too far into single player mode to unlock the SA. Instead I found out about it in the arena while trying to beat the A rank on the first 3 monsters with some friends. It was an absolute nightmare, specially since the 3rd arena, the Barroth one, didn't have the Hammer, the one weapon I was sort of good with. Instead it had this weird, battery based transformable slow ass weapon, and an energy based nimble katana. No one dared using the transformable one, but from the moment I saw it transforming into a chunky sword I discovered the meaning of the phrase "Love at first sight". Today I can't play a MH that has the SA and not use it for at least 5 missions whenever I try out different weapons, except for the Horn, which is my second favorite weapon post Gen 2. No weapon has quite the same feeling of movement, precision and weight as the SA, and the versatility it brings from having both modes funcion so independently from each other means you can switch around freely depending on what you need during a fight. Comboing while switching also feels so good. And I don't care about using elemental discharge and getting punished after it, either from the monster itself or from the lost sharpness, it's just such a satisfying move to land that I can't supress the urge to use it on the smallest windows available. I love this weapon.
I just looked up the final form of the dalamadur sa... AND GOOD LORD!! High attack, blast element, 3 slots, def boost, power phial and good design... GOOD LORD!!!
+taylor wold hey , a query. I main charge blade . I am in G2. Should I pick the SA or just pour my time into Charge Blade and master guard points???plz reply. Thanks in advance.
go with CB if you want to go with a safer playstyle and switch axe if you want a more unique playstyle(I know I'm extremely late). P.S CB is basically a swiss army knife in MH weapon form lol
I started playing Monster Hunter with Tri for the Wii. Back then the Switch Axe was pretty much the only weapon I'd call myself good at back then (though I can't say I had really came anywhere near close to mastering it until I watched your tutorial video the other day. Thanks for that.) Really, much of what you said about it feeling powerful yet agile was a big part of what drew me to it. The Great Sword just felt too slow paced for me, and I felt like the sword and shield was just doing scratch damage in my hands (though I started using it in a secondary file after watching your S and S tutorial, and have been doing very good with it; maybe even better than I was with the SA. Thanks... again :P ). The SA just felt like it was in that perfectly balanced area for my taste.
I use, LS, and sometimes I bumb other players too (accidentally), but often I don't realise that I maybe really piss them off. I hope that many people see that a LS/SA user 1. doesn't always realise that he has bumped you and 2. doesn't do it intentional. So please have a bit indulgence with us. Sometimes it's not even our fault. (A hammer player once ran into me while I was attacking the tail and then has given me a lecture!)
Mr. Largee Correcting your mistake quickly is also important. Big LS user here, and I'd like to think over the years that I've gotten good enough at coordinating my strikes so that I dont hit other players, but I still slip up from time to time and poke a lancer on their ass. I always make sure to INSTANTLY roll and reposition myself after doing so to give the other weapons their room.
Alex Rasmussen It happens: I main the HH and some time I do it as well. Its just that those weapons have bigger range, so it is easier to do a mistake. On a side note, my biggest problem was the CB's at Low Rank, and even at some High Rank Quests
I'll be honest. I hate it when a LS user joins my gathering hall. I don't say anything, but I cringe everytime. Granted, if you actually pay attention to the weapon's moves when around others instead of fade slashing our asses to the ground then we're golden. However, you got to ask yourself if LS is really that versatile in certain hunts since you should be limiting your combos to avoid interrupting others' attacks; and since LS really shines in its combos and long reach, you'll be limiting your overall DPS. I'm not saying that LS is a bad weapon in general, but I honestly think that it's the worst weapon to use in multiplayer.
***** No, I'd disagree with you on that. I can understand where that mentality is coming from, but it's really not a matter of limiting your combos to hunt effectively with it, it's more about positioning. Fade slash is much better to use when the monster is mobile, especially when it's aggroing you. It's not something you really want to use on a downed monster, regardless of if everyone's huddled up around it or not. The biggest thing you'll have to limit is your spirit combo, but that's as easy as starting it in a position away from players and either keeping the trajectory out of their line, or shifting it during the combo, which is really, quite easy. Of course, this requires your team mates to not be blind, sometimes. I've had many a time where I've started the spirit combo on a monster, in a safe position, only to have a lance user choose to position themselves in front of me with their side hops. But when that happens, that's on the other player, not the LS user.. LS is too fluid of a weapon even during aggro states to discount it simply because you cant spam Fade Slash and the Spirit combo when it's downed.
Alex Rasmussen I understand your points on positioning, but if a player hops in front of you while you're doing a Spirit Combo, that's not really anyone's fault. We either literally can't see you (if you're out of the screen frame), or we're too focused on hitting the monster and trying to predict its next move to notice what you're doing.

Oh your were a lance player? Good to see someone who knows the pain. Like you said for me it is the long sword. I began to hate the weapon so much and their users back in MH3. Nowadays I did become a lot better, position myself the right way and even use advantage of the team attacks to use my Shield counter.
I'm a Lance main also, but I didn't play online too much in Tri. (Which is when I first started playing MH.) With 4U though, EVERYONE uses a Charge Blades online and they knock me over ALL THE TIME. If I play with 1 or more CB users at a time, I have to stay away from them unless I want to get knocked on my ass. It's at its worst when a monster gets knocked down and the CB user(s) along with myself, go for the head....

Conor McDonald When I'm fighting and people like that stand right next to me, even though I am already targeting the not so important body part so I dont get interupted, and keep knocking me over that hunt, the next hunt I'll use a Gunlance, just to be mean sometimes which isn't really the right way to handle this, but feels good to knock them away with a lance!
My personal favorite SA in 4U has to be the Crazed Grisaxe. Like the Nainokami in 3U, the Exhaust Phial SA is extremely underrated. Any opportunity to exhaust a monster is well appreciated by almost any hunter. Plus, you're making the job of your HH and Hammer party members that much easier. Also, it doesn't hurt that the weapon has an insane amount of white sharpness, 1566 attack and 35% affinity.
I am imagining all the monsters screaming their names as if they were pokemon Your Giaprey is evolving! Congratulations, it became a Giadrome! "Gia! Gia!"
I tend to gravitate towards new weapons in each installment before going back to old favorites like the GS or Hammer. This time around I've been switching between switch axe and charge blade because they both have aspects I love. The axe mode of SA has more reach and an infinity swing combo that arguably deals more dps than wyvern fire as long as you use dash juice. But, I also like how the CB has more synergy between the modes. You can charge your shield to make it's guard as strong as a gunlance's shield. Or you can switch your charged shield into axe mode and benefit from 20% more damage. Or you can take a risky option and use a special move that opens you up for attacks. The sword mode of the switch axe never really appealed to me because it never felt like you were doing as much damage as the axe mode even if it technically is the higher damage mode. It felt as slow as a great sword, but it never had the impact I thought it should have.
This is an old comment but thought I’d comments on it anyways. It doesn’t make up for it not having power Phial and Purple sharpness, as that’s a whole of 34% damage lost on it, where as the SA’s with weaker raw having purple and the power phial will outperform it unless it had a significantly less raw. All the Power Phials shown in the video outdo it in damage, but that’s not to say that it’s bad weapon as exhaust Phial certainly has its place and if people enjoy it then that works too.
I'm really happy you did a little comment/explanation in this video! I've just started MH (rank 3, hue) myself and I haven't touched other weapons outside of DB and Hammer, so it's really great to get an insight on other weapons. Can't wait till you do DB!
By the way the Stygian Vanagloria has 350 dragon not 250. I have to give a shout-out to the Rathian line of Switch Axes. In particular the Azure Rose has been really useful. It's Element Phial but the Azure Rose has 360 poison, 972 attack and some slots the final one, Azure Straybloom has 1512 attack and 400 poison. I'll probably go for making that one when I get far enough but for now the Azure Rose has been nice against something like Deviljho or Daora
MrRaui Really? I've got the dragonmaiden axe+ right now and im thinking of selling it and making a seregios SA because poison tends ot be weaker in high and G rank because of its fixed damage and the hp increase. Should I stick with this SA?
Gage Wileman Well personally I don't like selling weapons unless I get an abundance of them from shards or they're something like rough edge, gaiasp, etc. So I'd say keep it around and maybe upgrade it later and just make that Seregios SA when you can. I've yet to make that one myself.
This was absolutely my experience with Switch Axe. it was very weird and intimidating and the first time i used it it was messy and i had a hard time controling myself. After a while i picked it up again and it was alot of fun
I love your videos. They have great, thorough explanation of all their many details and your voice is really comfortable to listen to if that doesn't sound too awkward for you. Switch Axe has also quickly become one of my favorites after a rough first impression of trying to use one back on my brother's Tri when it first released. Things are much different for me now on 3U and I hope X/Generations brings even more to the table. Subscribed.
I used SA as my main all though MH3U, loved the thing to pieces. But when MH4U came out I wanted to mix things up so I've used IG for the most part, but honestly love SA still to pieces. all the new combos and attacks are fabulous, it makes it feel more like a weapon you can really dish out amazing combos with and is still by far my favorite weapon. SA is one of the few weapons I'll literally make all of because I just love them all to pieces. My biggest fear with using it is accidentally launching people into the air (but at least they can still potentially attack/mount if they're quick enough) or knocking them over (especially lance/gunlance users), but I tend to be pretty good at being a safe distance away. Thanks for including your thoughts, it was really insightful and interesting!
Also MH3U was my introduction to the series. SA called to me immediately. But in 4U the charge blade interested me. Then I watched some of your videos, realized how truly terrible I was at Guardpoints, and tried the HH on a whim. Never have I been more pleasantly surprised.
Nice to know we started hunting with the same game :) A lot of veterans diss 3rd gen but I found it the best possible introduction to the series. And yes, Soloing G-rank was a pain, but eventually I found another player and together we finally took down the G Alatreon and made that Escadora X armor. I could talk about my Monster Hunter experience forever, and I've also clocked in above 1000 hours in 3U alone, but I'll stop here and say it's one of my favorite games of all time.
I actually got MH4U because of your tutorials, but my main instantly gravitated to Charge Axe/Charge Blade. Because of this I wanted to try switch axe but when I did it was so akward for me to use. But, because of this video and I love that switch axe attack which just goes back and forth (even if you need a mega dash juice to keep it going for long.). I really am going to try and learn it now
i tried Switch axes but being a GS user they felt a little clunky and not too satisfying in comparison granted ive been with hunters that were an absolute badass with one but they weren't for me
Got an excavated weapon. Level 10 Deluge. 1660 atk 10% affinity right off the bat. MASSIVE white sharpness with a hint of purple. 210 Sleep And best of all. 3 slots.
Excellent skin Nice attack with a small bonus Decent sharpness (that purple is basically non-existent by the sounds of it) 3 slots is great Sleep is... eh
If you want a good water Switch Axe that you can make earlier then I'd have to recommend the Tidal Najarala line of Switch Axes 1458 attack, power phial, 380 water, 3 slots. Plenty of white and a good bit of purple too. -15% affinity isn't too bad.
Gajinhunter I have to say thank you so much for adding that lil extra at the end the vid because honestly I never thought i would try switch axe as well. After watching this video I went make the chameloes one you referred and now i can't stop using the switch axe and I know if wasn't for you adding that bit at the end I would never tryed prob now one my fav weapons. Thanks so much for your amazing MH videos your inspiration to me for sure man keep it up!!
I used to main Switch Axes back in 3U, which was also my first Monster Hunter, so I liked hearing your thoughts on the weapon. Using them with Evade Distance and Evasion +3 is my favourite way to play them.
gaijin hunter you are definitely not alone with the rough experiences you've had with SA's, LS's, etc... I main Hammer & Lance, and I know that feel when your team knocks you down constantly mid combo lol. Thanks for sharing your videos and stories! I've really enjoyed them and learned a lot! 4G was my first MH, and you have been a great reference for me to go to. Keep up the great work! PS: MH-X looks mind blowing!!!!!! Can't even wait!
I can't wait to see your list for Lances. From what I've seen, people are often debating over which ones are the best of their categories and people posting damage calculations have had really close results between the top contenders. That's why I'm curious to see what you have to say.
Funnily enough I played through 3U (my first MH game) all the way to up (not including) G rank using lance solo, and through all of caravan low rank in 4U. It wasn't until I started playing online and I started using SA I realized that super armor (or poise or whatever you want to call it) was actually a mechanic in the game. It really does help give you perspective when you try out the various weapons. I try to be careful around others, especially lancers, when I play online. I currently use the Volvidon SA (para+element phial) for online hunts and my friend who is much, much, much more experienced than me was very impressed with how quickly and often I was able to stun monsters (especially Akantor, apparently, not even using status+ skill). The SA's elemental discharge attack really emphasizes how much this is a 'feel good' weapon, as you described. Getting those big attacks off are so satisfying, something you can't quite emulate with a lance (unless you count mounting from flat ground). Plus, with evade extender, you can chain launch people after quests for fun if you time your roll+attack correctly =D
I remember back when I had 3U and a got my friend into playing it. I was already breaking G rank by that time so I as well soloed G rank all the way through. When I used to help him hunt and git gud, he chose to use the SA and would ALWAYS trip me up. I was a DB user, so at least the demon mode helped a little.
the zamtreacherous maw is so good, that thing got me through basically all of g2 and most of g3. It's one of, if not THE, first max upgrade switch axe you can make with the standard of at least 270 true raw and a power phial. On top of that great raw it also has decent paralysis, and that's incredible because it lets you take advantage of the paralysis yourself, and as a switch axe user, any time a monster is down is an awesome time because your hack and slash, sword vertical, and sword double slash combos all do great dps and are all infinite.
Can you add more stories like the one at the end of this video to every video from here on out? I wasn't expecting it but I think it adds something cool to every video. Love your content and I discovered my love for this series through watching your videos and learning from them along with playing online. Keep doing what you're doing! Thanks!
Your reason not to use a SA for so long is the same as mine. I also had a friend who loved SA in MH3 and Lance was also my main weapon back then. I always thought the SA looked and felt rather weird while fighting. A week ago I choose the deviljho arena quest and there was no weapon I liked so I chose SA. I saw your SA guide before and knew how to use it. And I fell in love. I'm working on a SA set now.
Nice to see I'm not the only one to have this affinity for Switch Axe, it's odd when you find this weapon type you just constantly feel right (to me it's that and Hammers). I'm fully aware Charge Blades or Insect Glaive are amazing, but they don't feel as natural to me (on that note, relearning LS is kind of a pain)
Switch Axe is my fav weapon in MH, hands down! I love the feel of it and how much damage I can pump out in a short amount of time. Awesome vid and thank you for not being a SA hater lol
I latched onto the Swaxe in MHTri, my first game, and in 3U, no other weapon on the usage bar graph got close to the monolith that was Switch Axe. That and the Gunlance, I was all about them. The funky fusion weapons are what get me, like I can fight with a sword or bow in any other game, but a lace that is also A GUN?! In 4U, I've been really mainlining Charge Blade and Insect Glaive just for the new funky styles, but Swaxe is making a comeback with that Waxglare Wand. And the Gogmazios Swaxe? Oh my goodness.
When I first started out Monster Hunter i started with 3U and my very first weapon choice was the Switch Axe.... and it didn't end well for me. After the first fight with Duramboros which basically took the whole time allotted, I stopped and went to using Dual Blades. Later on I realized that I just wasn't really using them to their full potential, and now I think Switch Axes are one of the coolest weapons.
I enjoyed your "rambling" about this weapon and it's great to hear how it has grown on you after you've been hating it for such a long time. The reasons you mentioned (being powerful AND agile) are exactly why I've come to like this weapon so much. In 3U the long sword was my main weapon, but this time I wanted something different, chose the switch axe and I'm still very happy with it. It's so versatile, fun to use and I like the enormous reach of the axe a lot. At the moment I have one switch axe for every element (will replace my current water and ice axes with the Ceadeed Axe and Daora's Janah in the future) and I'm aiming for the Waxglare Wand and Zamtreacherous Maw as well, might even add a blast axe later. From my experience I agree with what you said about the Stygian Vanagloria and long hunts. My Brimstren Drakefang (an earlier version of it) and its good sharpness helped me get through the Caravaneer's Challenge quite recently. I didn't do the math, but I'd also recommend Rathscension if you're looking for a fire elemental weapon. Power phial, 1458 attack, 10% affinity, one slot and 450 fire damage. The only downside: It's quite similar to the Ceadeed Axe when it comes to sharpness, so razor sharp is a skill to go for. The Nether Excellion is also a great weapon if you don't mind that is has an element phial. 1512 attack, 10% affinity, one slot, 360 thunder damage and incredibly long white sharpness. But maybe you'd have mentioned these anyway. As you said, the variety of good switch axes is huge. :)
My personal favorite is the Excellion Nether. Awesome design, decent raw and sharpness. It's a shame that you can't use it as freely since it's element, but when I can, I always bring it
I also love the C Fatalis one for all-out blast. Since it has 20% affinity I made a bombardier, CE and critstatus set, since that skill works with blast. It feels like I'm a bow with endless blast coatings .
What about Mundus Regius? Althougt it has low attack, 720 dragon is a hellish amount, what makes it one of the best elemental switchaxes. And the design is simply beautiful
my preferred weapons are the SA, CB, LS, Hammer, LBG, and SnS for status weapons. In MH3U i never really used the heavy weapons because i like being mobile and prefer not having my speed cut in half. Why block an attack if you can dodge it entirely? Id only block if i had yellow or red charge for the CB as i know i wont take chip damage, and with SnS if dodging isnt possible. But hey, to each his own.
Azure Straybloom is relatively good and I chose it as my early G-Rank weapon clearing in some hunts. But I didn't see Zamtreacherous Maw potential... Also, 4:55 - 5:04. What a Swag axe hame!
i like how the hammer charge axe and switchaxe can launch people in the air my friend & I found out this si a great combo when a monster is trying to fly away or they need to get out of the way or to have a btter mounting pose
My first experience with monster hunter was with a demo disc for monster hunter tri on the wii. I tried all the weapons in the demo, and the one that I loved the most was, the Switch Axe. It was one of the only weapons I used through that game, until i got my Alatreon hammer. The Switch Axe is awesome.
One of my favorites is the Mundus Atlus line. I was have trouble soloing Dalamadur, having no internet and an older brother who was stuck at HR6. I was in the middle of farming Gold Rathian parts to make her armor so that i get get that Good Luck skill. I needed that skill to boost my odds of getting Shagaru's Phosgem so i could upgrade the Gore Switch( could've used the Shagaru glaive that i have, but i felt more comfortable using the SA for this fight). I had just captured a Gold Rathian (and i only needed one more ruby for the waist), and i got the Ruby AND the weathered SA. I upgraded it until i had 3 choices. Of course, i went with Mundus Atlus because of the whopping 600 Dragon element. After about 40 minutes, i had finally soloed Dalamadur. Now i have the Mundus Atlus+, and I'm going back to slay the big snake some more because i need 3 more Fanblabes to make the Direspike Display. I also have my TS.Zamtrios set gemmed for Dragon Atk+ 2, giving me 750 dragon element. Now Dalamadur goes down in around 25 minutes. It's actually kinda hilarious. TL;DR- It helped me get past the biggest wall in this game so far,and i know they'll only get bigger in G-rank. *shudders*
I have to say, I love your videos, I have learned so much from you. I specially like your extra comentary on this one 'cause because of you I started to learn all the weapons in monster hunter. I started playing monster hunter from Monster hunter freedom 2 (aka Monster hunter portable 2nd) for the psp that a friend showed me. I intantly love the quicker weapons like sns and db and I thought that i would never liked the heavier weapons like GS, Lance, SA and CB, but after watching your videos I started trying and practicing the other weapons and I found that i loved using the Charche Blade. You're a great insperation to me and I hope that to others aswell. Keep up the awesome work.
I was an LS turned SA player. Mostly due to the ESP the sword mode has. Was so scarred from fighting Basarios with a long sword which forced the change. And I'm loving it eversince. I like to think I can play fairly well in a team because I like to do draw attacks a lot on parts like the head, tail and legs instead of wailing at the monster.
The Kushala Daora switch ax is also very decent. It has decent purple and white with really long blue, 1458 power (which is solid) with 350 ice, and 10% affinity. The only problems are that it has no slots and that it's an Ancient Shard weapon, making it annoying to find and it requires Earth Crystals to start up.
your MH3G story sounds like mine with MH4U. I actually know a lot of people who played, but our schedules never meet other than when the game first came out. They helped me do Great Jaggi twice. After that I've been all solo up until G1. Took me a while, but I did it and am happy since this is my first MH game I really played. I was too afraid of being a noob online to play with randoms lol. Hopefully I can actually play with people this weekend at fanime. Switch axe was my first weapon I used a lot, but since became a hunting horn main, with some SnS, LBG, and GS for good measure haha. This video makes me want to play switch axe again.
My main weapon back in MH3 and still one of my favourites in MH3U. Sadly, I have left this baby behind in MH4U. Now that I know some good SAs, it's time to remember these old times.
I used the switch axe for a while in Tri, as my transition from guard lancing to something without a shield. I stopped when I learned how damage is calculated and saw the massive 5.6 weapon class modifier, but maybe I misjudged it's damage output. I just felt that based on the motion values it was not powerful enough...
When I started monster hunter I tried every weapon to see what felt right, I found that I loved the switch axe and most of the time I never used the sword mode. It's the only weapon I'll use now.
The Akantor Divider is an extremely underrated weapon, for so many people it is hard to get past the sharpness, but in all honesty, since you use switch axes in sword mode mostly, due to the 1.2x damage boost, sharpness isn't necessary for anything but additional damage, and taking into consideration it's atk, even with only green sharpness, it's still hitting harder than any other switch axe in the game, not to mention it's great +40% affinity. That paired with atk up large from eating, large from hunting horn, and extra large from armor skills makes it one of the hardest hitting weapon in the game period. Not saying its the best per se, because all weapons are situational, and it's axe mode is sub par at best, but it is a beast of a weapon for sure.
Nice too see your opinions. i haven't seen any of those SA before and they are all beautiful :3 though your issue with that guy with SA i have the same issue with IG every time i see one. Its a funny thought after the fact, but annoying while it happens.
i've always mainly used the long sword (and now the insect glaive) when hunting, but for some reason whenever a quest has been extremely difficult i always fall back to a switch axe class. I couldn't complete "the masters test' with a long sword or an insect glaive, but i beat it first try with a switch axe. So strange :P
I recommend constitution+evade distance+r. sharp for the the seregios SA. You can keep your weapon out almost the entire fight and literally just roll to keep up with mobile monsters. Kujula set is great for it, I also recommend NOT using it against large monsters like Dalamadur, Akantor, Ukanlos, and D. Mohran. It can work, but you'll find yourself needing to roll when you couldve easily continued a combo.
I love my axe. My favorite set up so far is full garuga. It gives my HG earplug, critical eye+2, razor sharp, evade distance up, and evasion +1. That or I can replace evasion+1 with bombardier or remove it entirely and bump critical eye +2 to critical eye +3. There's just so much I can do with that set and I haven't found a mix set that has been as appealing to me.
Aron Angstenberger yea im a gunlance user but i never shoot near people unless your an HR 60 special g permit, a person who acts like a jerk, or trips me alot for the first 2 i make it so they cant get carves and trip them but the 3rd i just stop caring and shoot and attack near them so if i trip them i dont really care its a really good system cause you get lots of friends by tripping people who trips the group all the time or if theyre a jerk you make them quit and the other people wanted to (if the guy was the host) so yea road rage (also my dreaded weapon is my favorite weapon: insect glaive)
For me, I wasn't too into the Switch Axe until I saw the sexiness that is the Daora and Teostra Switch Axes. They look awesome, and are pretty effective in my opinion. They are now some of my most favorite weapons, especially Daora's.
Yeah your experience with Switch Axe is basically how Insect Glaive users have been with me, really alot of people who don't seem to realize the guy with the hammer should be hitting the head, not Everyone In the Party
i main SA as well, since i started using it in MH3U... what happened was we had an SA master at our group.... i was the status SnS... when he retired from MH it felt really lacking not seeing those cool SA moves, so i decided to give it a try... it was a hard transition since i was used to weapons with block befoore... so having a weapon w/o block made me feel naked.. however, due to constant practice and lots of carting(hehehe) i was finally able to use it to its full potential....
This video, plus your tutorial, managed to prove to me that the SA isn't just slow, jerky, and clumsy; it's actually quite fun '^^ You may have converted me from Charge Blade~
+EightTimesNine Most of the time if a weapon is slow and jerky that just means you have to play it differently. Like with the GS, you sheat a lot and do draw slashes, and when you see a good opening you do a charge slash. That kind of style for the GS works also great with others, as you have less chance of hitting them.
I have a similar story regarding the switch axe: I was playing mh3u and took the arena quest against the barioth and I wanted to try out the switch axe you could choose for that. I barely landed any hits on the barioth. It was moving constantly and I tried hitting it but kept on missing and my charge was almost always full. I swore that I'd never use this snail of a weapon again. (I was maining dual blades at the time). Fast forward to mh4u and I thought I'd try it, I learned to love it while using it against a Dah'ren Mohran and I keep coming back to it.
Ploppman Funny, I have almost the exact same story from 3U. My friend convinced me to try something besides DBs, and I tried to switch axe a barioth. It took me a long time to get over how terrible that felt. It did end up as my second most used weapon in 3U, though, and it's my second most used in 4U now as well.
As a Lance user in 4U, I hate LSs and IGs, especially when I go to a spot to attack and they go right beside me and keep tripping me all over the place. That said, I still do use and enjoy all the weapons. Faves are Lance, DS and CB
Hey, I really appreciate the extra segment of this video! It's always entertaining to listen to your thoughts and opinion on all things Monster Hunter. Wouldn't mind if you did the same with the remaining ones ;)
Another good video Gaijin; I personally love the Lance the most, but recently have been very fond of the Switchaxe, Hammer and H.Bowgun. Switchaxe has been quite nice for me in solo play as the raw damage demolishes monsters, Hammers I tend to use in solo play when a head break sub-quest is available and for online play as people appreciate a Hammer user that knows how to use launches (and quick stuns), H.Bowgun is nice and I only use it online; love it for the high damage and the ability to stay at a distance from a monster. I really love the lance, but have been less fond of it in both solo and online play; my quest clear times are slow and during online I have the issue of being knocked around even when playing with friends. I always suggest players to learn at least 6 weapons; otherwise learn how to use all of them. I promise that you get better with each weapon even when you are learning another. Everything you try to learn in this game will make you a better hunter. Thanks for the video Gaijin, and Happy Hunting to all.
My go to swagaxe is stygian zinogre's. Looks really cool, 1500 raw, power phial and one of the best elements against elder dragons. It's also easier to hone being just a rarity 9 weapon. I've also made the Ceadeed and Chameleos axes, but I just keep going back to stygian
SA was my favorite weapon when i started with MH3U. in MH4U i started playing CB, DB and LS because i wanted to try something new, but last month i started playing SA again and didnt use any other weapon type since then :D
When starting 3U, I didn't understand the SA. I prefer being mobile, a thing that the SA didn't feel like at the beginning. When I did pick it up right before 4U came out, it was not only mobile, but large power combined with that mobility. I prefer being in ax-mode as the movement speed is the same as the LS, which I mained in 3U. However, it has much better reach, power, and attack speed than the LS to me. It is my main weapon both solo and online now.
In 4U when I lance, I hate every weapon equally...
lotsa charge blade in the background, don't forget to turn off layers from previous videos :3
God damn beer and editing do not mix :(
gaijin hunter My favorite SA is the Diablos. With my set it got 10 % Affinity, long white sharpness and 2000!!! damage.
Shaco Reloaded Yepp. With my set it got 2000 damage as well. Such a beast!
gaijin hunter watcha tryin'a say?! Charge blade makes Switchaxe obsolete?!
gaijin hunter also behind the Stygian right as it appears you see punk rathian C.B
First weapon I ever used and fell in love with it. My friends said it was the most complicated and I took it as a personal challenge. Really fun! Keep up the videos!
Charge blade in the corner like complicated huh?
I hated it at first until I learned you can switch between the two forms mid combo

switch axe will always have a place in my heart smashin' those jaggis
Amen brother, that shits my baby
TherókMSM dont forget felyne feet or rock steady!
J. Sal You still get interrupted
TherókMSM Same gose for me but I use Gunlace mainly.
I am imagining all the monsters screaming their names as if they were pokemon
Your Giaprey is evolving!
Congratulations, it became a Giadrome!
"Gia! Gia!"
In my opinion, you should to the "Thoughts On X Weapon" for every one of these top five videos. I thoroughly enjoyed that segment.
Just started using the SA regularly and absolutely loving the thing! That Dalamadur SA is absolutely insane and so much fun to use. XD
O dear
It felt as slow as a great sword, but it never had the impact I thought it should have.
what about diablos SA with honed blade/critical eye +3 and honed with attack, it would have over 2000 raw attack
My favorite blademaster weapon since 3u, i love regios SA in this game.
I'm really happy you did a little comment/explanation in this video!
I've just started MH (rank 3, hue) myself and I haven't touched other weapons outside of DB and Hammer, so it's really great to get an insight on other weapons.
Can't wait till you do DB!
Switch Axe is my favorite as well, but it's not what I'm best with so I tend to stay with Great Sword especially when playing online.
I recently got into SA and this really helped.
i love your content bro , its weird to listen to these older videos , you sound overworked so props to you for still giving us content
Thanks! Honestly it was just me being nervous and inexperienced behind a mic ^^ it sounds so bad lol
By the way the Stygian Vanagloria has 350 dragon not 250.
I have to give a shout-out to the Rathian line of Switch Axes.
In particular the Azure Rose has been really useful. It's Element Phial but the Azure Rose has 360 poison, 972 attack and some slots
the final one, Azure Straybloom has 1512 attack and 400 poison. I'll probably go for making that one when I get far enough but for now the Azure Rose has been nice against something like Deviljho or Daora
MrRaui The Warglare has more purple sharpness
MrRaui Really? I've got the dragonmaiden axe+ right now and im thinking of selling it and making a seregios SA because poison tends ot be weaker in high and G rank because of its fixed damage and the hp increase. Should I stick with this SA?
Jeffery Ronald Yeah but you can make Rathian line much sooner so there's that.
Gage Wileman Well personally I don't like selling weapons unless I get an abundance of them from shards or they're something like rough edge, gaiasp, etc.
So I'd say keep it around and maybe upgrade it later and just make that Seregios SA when you can. I've yet to make that one myself.
MrRaui I can make it already. I'm on 9* caravan. I'm trying to find the best hammer and the best slash axe and the best sns.
Um, what's up with the crimson fatalistic charge blade...? 0:56
Lol fatalistic
This was absolutely my experience with Switch Axe. it was very weird and intimidating and the first time i used it it was messy and i had a hard time controling myself. After a while i picked it up again and it was alot of fun
I just got this on my recommendations, UA-cam is trying to tell me something.
You "rambling" was very insightful and I enjoyed the entire video very much. Thanks!
Nice to know we started hunting with the same game :)
A lot of veterans diss 3rd gen but I found it the best possible introduction to the series.
1660 atk
10% affinity right off the bat.
MASSIVE white sharpness with a hint of purple.
210 Sleep
And best of all. 3 slots.
Excellent skin
Nice attack with a small bonus
Decent sharpness (that purple is basically non-existent by the sounds of it)
3 slots is great
Sleep is... eh
@@argiebargyplays That weapon sounded beautiful dude
If you want a good water Switch Axe that you can make earlier then I'd have to recommend the Tidal Najarala line of Switch Axes
1458 attack, power phial, 380 water, 3 slots. Plenty of white and a good bit of purple too. -15% affinity isn't too bad.
4:04: Awesome hit.
My favourites are Nuclear Brachy SA and Silver Rathalos SA.
IG,LS,SA all keep tripping me, the poor SnS
That's why I completely gave up with Swordmastery xD
I'm working on a SA set now.
switch axe + punishing draw is a lot of fun and adds more variety to the weapon.
MH3U was my first monster hunter game. The switch axe got me through pretty much the entire game. It's such a fun weapon to use.
I hate when I like a video, close the video, then come back and it says I haven't liked the video yet... UA-cam's very confusing
I play mostly as a gunner with bow being my favorite weapon. I can't wait to see this top 5 bows to come onto UA-cam!
Jami Morrison I can already spoil two of those elections: 1. Kama Sedition 2. The Akantor bow. There you go XD
I use the Waxglare Wand (Chameleos). It's downright amazing. If you hone it for power, you downright delete monsters, even G-Rank.
Rax G I freaking adore that weapon, I gave mine Life though because(Say it with me)FREE POTS.
My personal favorite is the Excellion Nether.
Awesome design, decent raw and sharpness. It's a shame that you can't use it as freely since it's element, but when I can, I always bring it
No way! Lance user here too, I love playing SA on hunts that are less serious because it just feels so... good!
I also love the C Fatalis one for all-out blast. Since it has 20% affinity I made a bombardier, CE and critstatus set, since that skill works with blast. It feels like I'm a bow with endless blast coatings .
I use long swords the most, can't wait to see the list you pick
Take it from an SA main since Tri, Axes are very versatile and seeing this makes me want to finish up G2 solo
So inspirational! I love your approach. I've learned so much from your vids. Keep up the amazing work!
Honestly wasn't expecting Seregios in there but GH is right that using Razor Sharp and exploiting dodge with it has been working for me.
So strange :P
i really like the ancient shard SA also, that dragon damage is very nice against dragon weak monsters
I recommend constitution+evade distance+r. sharp for the the seregios SA. You can keep your weapon out almost the entire fight and literally just roll to keep up with mobile monsters. Kujula set is great for it,
I also recommend NOT using it against large monsters like Dalamadur, Akantor, Ukanlos, and D.
Forgot to mention it also gives me sheathing with all of that! Perfect switch axe set :)
For you the dreaded weapon that people piss you off with is switch axe, for others it's long sword. For me: GUNLANCE GUNLANCE GUNLANCE.
Switch/Slash Axe for life! And I know that lancer feel, always being tripped up...I just try to stay on the other side if the monster.
Mizar's Asterism needs to be included in the game. That was my go-to Switch Axe in 3U.
Which one is that?
FoveVever Lucent Nargacuga's Switch Axe. Arguably the best Switch Axe in 3U.
Oh yeah i didnt play in english so i didnt know which one that was but your totally right ^^
TrueZtyleZ7 its not in the game
I meant 3U ^^
How you used to feel about SA is how I still feel about GS and LS.
I have a similar story regarding the switch axe:
I was playing mh3u and took the arena quest against the barioth and I wanted to try out the switch axe you could choose for that.
Chameleos switch axe is stunningly beautiful.
He called the switch axe a sucker immediate thumbs up. (Even though I thus up almost every video this sucker makes).
Why didn't you mention Nether Excellion? It's very similar to the Ceadeed one, with minimum decrease in stats, but has more purple sharpness.
Surprised you never brought up Nether Excellion, the Abyssal Lagiacrus Switchaxe. That thing is a beast and it is so strong.
