    After compaction of third layer, the maximum allowable hight of compacted soil toward collar is 6 mm. This matter has mentioned is the D-698 but in this video it was more than at least 10 mm and this is wrong.
    Please share your ideas with me here if i wrong

    As a geotechnician in Australia, you've made this test look MUCH harder than what it has to be. That compaction hammer is over engineered,

    Before placing each new layer, the surface of the previous layers is scratched in order to ensure a uniform distribution of the compaction effects. :)

      No! Neither ASTM D698 or D1557 even mention such an action; Kalinski is wrong here. This test is to provide a very specific amount of energy to the soil, not replicate field methods. Scarifying the surface between lifts upsets the energy that has already been imparted to that volume of soil.

    The portrait is of Redfield Proctor.. but the man who devised this test was Ralph Proctor. And the portrait wasn't his.

    Make sure you release the proctor hammer at the very top! The person in this video is actually letting go half way down. You want the full force of the hammer in this test. Otherwise you won't achieve your true density.
