The Duchess is savage! I wonder how she made the arrangement with the Emperor of Sanbreque? I suspect the Duchess is from the Northern Territories, the same as Jill and Torgal. The way the Duke spoke about her royal line was not in a favorable light. She is shown in one of trailers as sitting on one of the thrones near the Emperor.

If you press pause during the cut scenes, you get a lore of the people and places in the scene. Also, much of the style and dialog was inspired by Game of Thrones.
Story and characters have always been more important to me so go FF16!
Both FF16 and Lies of P demos have absolutely blown me away!
Bro 16 quite literally is everything we ever wanted in Final Fantasy. Attack on Titan mixed with Essentially Game of Thrones. Not only that but the music is phenomenal, the visuals are on point, this game is shaping up to really be a game of the year contender

It’s an old demo, even then it’s improved greatly from the performance people got to play months ago. The actual game I’m sure is more polished because of how the demo is old. Not only that but I’m also sure the actual game will have more performance options and a motion blur setting, if not then that’s a shame, but that certainly doesn’t take away from everything else it does well Lmfao 🤣.

@@true_gamer39 I mean you haven’t said anything bad it’s not like that, I personally never expected it to run smoothly did you see how many particles are on the screen at a time? Pffft all I can ask for is that it runs smoothly majority of the time outside of combat, and I’ll take it being kinda bad in combat, I understand wanting it to run well though, it’s just not that big a deal to me. And it’s not that they WANT people to play a shitty version of the game, they already had the demo done, I don’t think they would make a whole new one a week before release, and they released the demo to get people excited. things are usually different between demo and release too, like in FF7R, there was a lighting bug in the bombing run that they fixed in the actual game. I also think HOW bad it is is dependent on how much you care I think so I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it as much, I do hope they fix those issues so you can enjoy it to the fullest. Im sure a lot of us are also blinded by hype and by the time the games been out for a few weeks people will be more willing to listen to the constructive criticism

The Kingdom Hearts team was involved in the making of FFXVI, I'm sure you can see how games like Kingdom Hearts, DMC, and Dragons Dogma have inspired the combat, would love to see a full playthrough!
I wasn’t aware of the KH team being involved but I had my suspicions once I saw a Shotlock-like battle mechanic in one of the trailers.

Honestly this was phenomenal ones of the greatest prologues to a game I have ever played. Can't wait to dive back into it next week this story has hooked me completely.
This is the reason why I tell people to play FFXIV. It's made by the same team that is making FF16! Heavensward is 10/10 and Shadowbringers and Endwalker expansions are straight up "best story of all time" material! Hope you come back to it some day Dee!
While I personally love it, it is not for everyone. Story is great and gets better as you go, but the questing process is very mmo basic even in current content. Combat definitely improves as you go as well though.
While FFXIV is my favorite of the franchise (and maybe favorite game ever), I understand why Dee gave up on this one. It's loooooooong as hell, even to simply get to the first expansion, it takes almost a hundred hours of playtime. Given how Dee has still tons of other games to play, I can't blame for wanting to focus elsewhere.
Endwalker is literally the best piece of media ever produced by the hand of man and will be forever etched into gaming history as the best story ever told period.

I agree Heavensward and Shadowbringers are top tier but Endwalker was bloated and ridiculous with zero stakes it literally felt like they didn’t have enough time and were backed into a corner by a deadline so they wrote some trash to meet a deadline.
Yeah no, Heavensward is mid. I just finished Stormblood and so far I’d never recommend the game to anyone unless they had nothing better to do, liked MMOs, and didn’t want to play WoW. It’s been a fun time playing here and there, taken me 3 years to get this far, I like the gameplay, but there is nothing about it so far that gives me any trust in the FFXIV writing team. Maybe Shadowbringers suddenly does a 180 and the writing suddenly becomes really good somehow, but I sincerely doubt it.
I am at this point considering XVI it’s own entity entirely unrelated to XIV because if I didn’t I’d end up being extremely skeptical and it would sabotage my potential enjoyment.
Let's go! The level of hype and excitement I have for this game after the ending is like when I was waiting for the next Tell tales walking Dead episode.

It sounds like they took Robert Vernon, the voice actor for Estinien (Dragoon in FFXIV, a Scion of the Seventh Dawn), and used him for the Knight of the Blinding Dawn. I think they did the same thing with the Japanese voice actor, Kenji Hamada. So cool!
And the traitor who killed the Archduke was voiced by Urianger's voice actor.
When I first heard him while watching someone else play the demo, I thought it was Estinien too and Im sure it is!

This demo is fucking amazing. I almost can't believe what I just witnessed. The story, the characters, the gameplay, the cinematics, EVERYTHING about this was amazing.

Don't underestimate the impact of TOTK's story. It's not complex but so well made, when I understood the main plot twist I was blown away.

Yeah, Nintendo had always been able to make good games. Sqeenix is good at making good Final Fantasy games. Some others they've made have been... less than good.

First I thought Jedi: Survivor had a chance for GOTY. Then I played ToTK and felt silly for ever thinking a "tiny" game like Jedi had a chance.. Last night I played the FF16 demo and, once again, my preconceptions have been decimated. 2023 is an S-Tier year for gamers. Mainline Zelda and FF in same year? This hasn't happened since SNES days.
Not hating on TOTK (I played it for a week and haven’t touched it since) but there is more story in this demo then the entirety of TOTK. It was the main reason I couldn’t keep playing TOTK; I felt no connection and the story came off as something meant for adolescence. (As did the voice acting) I don’t care that FF16 sweats or has brutal scenes, it’s already such an engaging story that has me asking so many questions that I can’t wait to find answers too. But that is my own opinion and preference; doesn’t mean I’m right or something else is bad. FF16 has potential to become “That” game and a new FF for everyone to reference. Can’t wait to see how this one plays out!

As much as my bias says otherwise, I think you're right. Even Yoshi P himself admitted that FF isn't a console seller anymore. And he is trying to get that title back with FF16. It wouldn't be an instant big win that can take over an established giant like Zelda.

I'm super stoked for FFXVI (especially as a super longtime FFXIV player) and seeing a story-driven mainline FF game by that save dev team as FFXIV just tickles my brick pickle! Also, I'm patiently awaiting your Tears of the Kingdom playthrough with bated breath. I'm still playing through it myself, but I've livestreamed 15 episodes so far and they're each anywhere from 4-9 hours a piece. That's all I'm going to say about ToTK, friend.
I went from not really caring much about this game from the marketing, to fully invested in the story in the course of two hours in my playthrough. Square Enix really needs to fix its marketing, but damn do they know how to make a good game.
I don't know man, every trailer released for this game has been a banger.
I think there was a limit to how much marketing can do for games like these. A lot of what actually gets you involved in the game is the quiet moments of love and hate. You won't learn to love Joshua or hate the mother in the span of a trailer, but when you do, the stakes of big battles and the cutscenes before and after them become that much more impactful.
I honestly think they did a great job marketing this game. It didn't surprise me how good the demo was because of the numerous interviews and events where they clarified exactly what they were trying to do. Not to mention, the trailers were incredible.

Like seriously this is one of the best demo I've ever played and I keep saying this to other videos playing the same game that I had the best experience because of the new things that I found in the game along with the actions of Clive. Wish I could get the full version so I could get ahead of the storyline. Oh yes, you have a nice gameplay video.

TOTK has the benefit of being an open world creative platform with huge versatility and depth.
FFXVI will most likely be more linear and story driven. For that reason i feel TOTK will maintain its hype for longer similar to BOTW and Skyrim. However, that does NOT mean I think one is better than the other. Just different.
It's not completely linear. The game will have open areas, a bit like Xenoblade and the Witcher 3.
Also, don't forget how addictive DMC style gameplay can be. You can spend thousands of hours in a DMC game and still feel like you want more.

Just finished Zelda TOTK, there is Street Fighter 6, FF16 and Armored Core 6. This summer is a on fire for me.
I HIGHLY recommend you also play the unlocked Eikonic Challenge..
Its more story and gameplay.
And you can play with a much more powerful character to get a taste of how the game plays beyond the intro.

Even veteran developers are baffled at how Nintendo made their insane building system actually work without any major issues. I don't think any game this year could dethrone it no matter how good it is.
If FF16 keeps this same quality throughout the entire game, imo it's a no brainer GOTY for me. And I LOVED ToTK, like I was 100% certain that game would be my GOTY, but after this demo... it's gonna be a rough choice.

The game has an E10+ rating, it is open to a much more casual audience than CoD is where it is not only age restricted to 17+ being rated M, but also skill restricted because you need to actually be good at CoD if you want to enjoy playing the game.

Having played around 60 hours of TotK (and enjoyed it) vs 4 hours of FF16, FF16 is already taking it for me.
That said I’m pretty sure TotK will take it, since it’s Zelda…

I agree. I have this same issue as last year for the Elden Ring vs God of War: Ragnarok battle for GOTY. I enjoyed God of War more than Elden Ring, though it doesn't mean that Elden Ring is not a great game for me. Given that not all PS5 owners will play FFXVI, and the Switch has a much larger install base, Tears of the Kingdom will most likely take GOTY.
Nah I don't think so, I'd agree if BOTW hadn't already won GOTY and given that TOTK is essentially an extension of BOTW I'd be shocked if it wins over some other contenders this year.

I think TOTK is a great game but imo compared to what I hope and think Ff16 will be it’s nothing as innovative.

@Holy Guacamole it could, it just depends of what the critics will say. I believe the votes only count as 10% of it. It’s mostly media outlets that decide the winner, if FF16 has close to or very similar reviews to TOTK Ff16 will take it. I see it as the God of war vs Red Dead debate, which god of war won the GOTY award.

Medieval times was probably as harsh as this game depicted it so not really surprised that there was so much carnage in the game. Just like GoT don't get too attached to the characters cause it won't be a pleasant ride that's for sure. The FF14 team i can say as a big fan of the MMO, this game is gonna be amazing from a story, character & music standpoint. It'll be a treat for those who aren't too familiar with the FF14 team.

The only thing that has me worried is, how the heck are they gonna cram a whole-ass Final Fantasy-grade story into this?! It looks like we're pushing something around or even higher than the level of quality of FF7R, and they had to break that game into chunks to pull it off. I'll be honest, I was hyped for FFXVI but even I was resigned that TOTK will swipe the GOTY, just because well, it's Zelda.
After this demo? I'm not so sure anymore. FFXVI has a very real shot at GOTY.
