  • The Grass is growing but for the best cut we need to do some mower deck maintenance on the Lawn Tractor first. In this video we inspect all the bearings in the spindles and pulleys, Sharpen the blades, Check the condition of the belt, Weld up a broken part of the Mowing Deck and adjust it for level. May your grass stay green and your neighbors stay envious.
More content to consider for Lawn mower maintenance:
    1. "Inspect the Blade
If your lawn mower blade is pitted or the cutting edge is rounded over, remove the blade for resharpening or replacement. Doing this in the fall gives you time to gather parts and get things ready for mowing again in the spring.
    Inspect Drive Belts
Most lawn mowers don’t have a drive belt, but some do, especially self-propelled models. Your owner’s manual will explain if your mower has a belt and where it is. Inspect the belt for cracks or frayed edges and buy a new one if necessary to have on hand for spring."

    2. "Your mower’s underside, or “deck,” can become clogged with grass and debris that can interfere with its ability to function and lead to corrosion. A dirty mower deck can even become a vector to spread plant diseases around your property. Clean your mower’s deck each spring and midseason to head these problems off at the pass.
First, disconnect the spark plug wire for safety. Empty the gas tank, and turn your mower onto its side. Spray the underside thoroughly with a garden hose. Use a brush and soapy water to remove any other dirt and debris. Once the area is dry, coat the underside of your mower with a thin layer of vegetable oil to prevent debris from sticking to it."

That was really really helpful to verify if I put everything together right. I didn't take it off so was guessing. I did realize that I forget to tighten my bolts back up while watching you. But all and all I proud of myself! Go me it's my birthday!
Oh why is it so hard to find anything on the LT 150?

This is great you do stuff exactly like me! I’m having trouble getting the deck back on mine! Any suggestions tips?

I had that problem the first time I took mine off. The front hander that looks like a closed off Y or triangle on a stick is adjustable. I loosened the nut on the end of it to give me more room to work with. I actually left it a little loose, doesn't seem to effect the cut. But once when I was mowing in the woods I hit a small stump with the deck and it fell of the hanger.

Hi Thanks very much. Good info. I have question. I have LT160. How do you replace deck belts?
Do you take pulleys out/loose or do you squeeze the belt through pulleys and rods by pulleys?
There is not much space between pulleys and rods. And my pulleys nut not coming loose. And without pulleys loose I can't squeeze belt through. Looking for good video. Please advise. Appreciate your time

You have to loosen the two Smaller pulleys and take the plastic cover off

I have the exact one, what would cause the blades not to engage when pulling down in the lever?

      Nevermind, it was easy:
Block back wheels and tip it up on its ass end and put a cpl 40” 2x4’s at a 60 deg angle under foot wells to ground.
Take right tie rod out of control arm and put under it and refasten tie-rod; do same on other side.
Remove break spring assembly and long extension spring on opposite side at frame rail.
Remove too right idler pulley and wrap belt around it and reinstall.
Do same for the other idler pulley attached to the black bracket on opposite side of machine (to the left) that the brake spring was connected to.
remove the nut on the next pulley down and to the right 3” and remove the metal guard that prevents belt from jumping off pulley, feed belt around pulley and reinstall bracket and nut.
Feed belt thru the space in arm that is attached to lever to raise and lower deck as u push the arm towards back of machine as much as u can.
Remove PTO rod and spring mechanism by removing pin and hitch pin and feed belt to front upper pulley (motor pulley).
      Reconnect the break/clutch spring assembly.
      Reconnect the extension spring.
Pull down on left side of belt just behind the bracket the two pulleys are mounted to on left, and push the right end of belt around rear most pulley (big pulley under seat) and then release tension from left hand.
      Reinstall deck.
      Done

Balance the blades after you sharpen them . Look it up on other UA-cam video s. And another thing, the greasing of the bearings is useless on some models. Some models ? Look up videos on greasing you're bearings. Why ? The bearings are sealed ! Why am I saying all this ? So all of you reading this won't learn the hard way like I did.
