@@dannisorchidjourney in the video you said somthing about the bulbs should be smooth I have 2 out of 3 that are wrinkled should I water it and do I soak it I dont want to over water there is some weight to the pot now
Hmmmn. Maybe I’ll try your way. I can’t grow indoors so mine are all the shadehouse, but I think they get too much light, Your way of watering is better, mine do tend to lose their new growths. I have a couple of Species which I rescued last year and they are doing well, probably because I isolated them seeing as they were from a rescue situation. For some reason I don’t tend to overwater those ones.
Lynn Brooks sorry I’m so late to reply! I just had one rot all of its new growth on me because I got lazy and didn’t water the way I usually do with them. I’m glad to hear your rescue ones are doing well! Good growing Lynn! 💜
Anna the Swedish orchid hoarder Orchid I hope you can find one because they are just fabulous! I wish we lived closer, I would just mail you a division of my really big one.
Thank you! I got a zygo 2 weeks ago as a gift. It seems to dry out rapidly. It is in a plastic pot with drainage at bottom only. 1. Should I repot it? One of the leaves turned yellow and leaves generally seem dry. 2. Can I use the same MSU fertilizer as for my Phals?
Hello Denny Thanks dear for sharing. My seller offering me two fragrant matured zygo to me each 30$ . I was afraid buying b coz I think I will kill them . Now seeing your video I feel if you support me with your tips to me I can take an adventure to buy both .
Hi Dani: great video but I have a question. The leaf spotting you show leading to the leaf dropping has become increasingly rapid on my Zygos. I have a huge one that has died all the way back to nothing but pseudobulbs. I checked and it still has a great root system. Seems like all my Zygos barely get done blooming before the leaf starts yellowing. Fungicides only seem to hasten this effect. The leaves look almost identical to the ones in your video but my plants are mostly down to just pseudobulbs. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!
Hi there! Unfortunately without seeing it in person I can’t give much advice. But what I can tell you is that the browning and spotting is very common with the Zygos unfortunately. I’ve had a few where only one or two pseudo bulbs had leaves to them. Zygos don’t like hot temps. Hot temps will also cause it to pitch a fit and cause the browning as well. This video is one of my older ones and since that video I started growing them in a greenhouse where the temps were way too hot 🥵 and the browning only worsened from there so my Zygos moved back inside my home. They are not warm/hot growers. They are cool to intermediate growers. I hope this helps you. Zygos are fussy but the blooms are so worth it. Happy growing. 💜
Hi danni Nice to meet you I buyed from my seller. My very hight light environment. Not cool. How to cure my plans then pls way for fertilizer in natural way. Thank you
Hi I have to replant mine in a slightly bigger pod Not sure what to use Some people are saying wood chips and moss ,other people are saying in durt So I dont know what should i use Can u pls tell me what do u think is best for this orchid? Thank you
Can you tell me how you go about providing a 10-degree temperature drop for your Zygopetalum? and What is the Humidity requirement for Zygopetalum in the home?
Hi! To get the drop in temp I put my Zygos in the basement for a couple weeks, only at night. They are content with 50-55% humidity. If you provide more than that make sure you have good airflow happening since they are prone to new growth rot. Happy growing. 💜
@@dannisorchidjourney > Thank you for your reply. The other question/concern I have is that many people are telling me that Zygopetalum do not make good in-home orchids due to their Temp and Humidity requirements. What are your thoughts?
@@patrickbowen5398 mine didn’t thrive inside my home they just dealt with it. They are thriving now that I grow them in a greenhouse for sure. Only hiccup I have with growing them in the greenhouse is they don’t like when it gets supper hot. But there are some growers with that special touch that can grow them beautifully inside a home. BUT as I’m every learning process, some will not thrive maybe even die until you get it down packed.
@@dannisorchidjourney Thank you very much for the reply. Well, I grow all of my orchids in my home, right in the living room - most are under artificial LED lighting in front of a large bright window, so lighting is definitely not my problem. Temps I can handle more or less, but humidity (even with a room Humidifier) is a problem as I can not get the humidity up and above a 62% level and right now with the Central AC on, it's barely at 50%.
Hello, New member to your family here. Thanks to Phal Pal group I found you. Thanks for sharing this video. I hope you come by and see what I am doing at my little farm too. Take Care.
Gardening With SkinnyBoyRandy Hi there, thanks for joining me. I don’t have many Phals, but I love the minis, novelties and Species. I live in Australia and it’s cold now, so they have all slowed down, but I have a few spikes so should be able to show some blooms later in the year. Where are you from?
The new growth rotted off mine. Will it make another one? It was a blooming mew growth and I think it developed an infection in a spike and affected the entire growth? Any help would be appreciated
Darcy Lyon no worries when a new growth rots. It happens with Zygos for some reason more so than other orchids. But yes a new growth will appear. The key with Zygos is really good air flow and watering not from the top but from the bottom. Hope this helps. Happy growing
Lol well yes, there are lots of windows in the world that do not receive direct sunlight. And if all your windows in your house receive direct sunlight, you can scoot the plant back from the window.

‘Hamim CHOWDHURY’ yes, if it gets very hot in your environment, from my experience these Zygos don’t like hot temperatures. They can handle cooler temps down into the 50sF. I have all of mine growing in a bark and pebble mixture.
Thanks for the tips Danni! I repotted mine this weekend. Your blooms are gorgeous.

You said they are perfect windowsill orchid .. because they don’t like direct sunlight ? 🤔. I’m confused.
Lol well yes, there are lots of windows in the world that do not receive direct sunlight. And if all your windows in your house receive direct sunlight, you can scoot the plant back from the window.
If they are inside, how do they get a 10 degree drop in temp to encourage blooming?
You can set them outside when night time temps are cool. Around 45-55 degrees would be idea.
