  • 💥RACE FINISH💥
    Team Hands Atlantic 🇳🇱
Today, on Tuesday 20th February at 01:19 AM local time, Team HandsAtlantic with Mel Eissens onboard her boat ‘Jack Keane’ finished her 3,000 mile crossing in a time of 68 days, 19 hours and 48 minutes, coming in as our 34th boat overall. Throughout the day and evening Mel kept up a steady pace giving her all for the last strong strokes towards Antigua, becoming the first Dutch woman to row across any ocean solo and completing the World’s Toughest Row✊🏼
Mel became interested in the sport of ocean rowing and the race through the research project “Trigger Fingers in Ocean Rowing” where Mel, together with a research team, visited La Gomera in 2019 to start the project. Spending time chatting with the participants, it did not take long before Mel was hooked and she can now proudly call herself one of them!😊
When asked about the challenge Mel said, “It had ups and downs, good things, bad things, challenging things, very joyful things - everything I was hoping for and I got it!” Mel experienced some beautiful wildlife on the Atlantic as well. She said, “The whales were impressive! I’ve seen sharks, seen dolphins. Had birds sitting on my boat for the first week keeping me company - lots of wildlife!” We definitely recommend taking a look at the amazing whale footage on Mel’s socials🐋
