The effort the build national narratives out of the European fragments sadly rejected or ignored the idea that the land was occupied, worked, and conceptualized in art for thousands of years by Indigenous people. To speak of Bras D’Or Lake and not mention the Mi’kmaq people in Eskasoni, for example, is a glaring omission, especially considering that community’s (the largest Mi’kmaq community in Canada) close connections to both the Acadian and Gaelic cultures. This film is an artifact of its time and should be taken as such. I am glad you pointed out this issue.
