🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:34 The bass licks in this video are based on the key of A minor and combine the diminished 7 arpeggio with major and minor pentatonic scales. 02:18 The first lick ascends the A flat diminish 7 arpeggio and descends on the C major pentatonic scale, incorporating trills and finishing on A. 04:01 The second lick starts with an A Minor triad arpeggio, moves to E minor 7 arpeggio, then A diminish 7 arpeggio, and ends on A. 05:28 The third lick combines F Sharp diminish 7 arpeggio, a pause, and descending A minor blues scale notes, creating a bluesy sound. 06:58 The fourth lick uses F Sharp diminish 7 arpeggio and A minor pentatonic scale notes, incorporating double-back technique and ending on A. 08:02 The fifth and final lick combines A minor pentatonic scale, B diminish 7 arpeggio, and C major pentatonic scale notes, creating a smooth melodic line. Practice and patience are key to mastering these licks. Made with HARPA AI
This is one of the best lessons Ive seen on UA-cam to increase my bass vocab. Ive used 1/2 dim scales for walking lines but never for licks. Great lesson. Do more!!
Video idea: simple turnarounds and "transitions" to go from one root to another. Really basic stuff, but I know a lot of beginner gospel bass players who only do roots and would like a little more to add to their playing. EX: If I'm going from the 1 to the 5 - what "transitions" can I do to add a bit of spice?
Very good, Travis, congratulations, keep bringing content like this, simple, practical and very rich. I would really like to see a video with 5 LINKS of phrases with Melodic Minor and Harmonic Minor, it would be really good! Thank you in advance, God bless you!
Great licks, and great instruction, however, i missed the part where the licks fill in? What type of progression are we playing to add these licks. How does the Ab diminished fit?
The onscreen tabs are a real help. Thanks Travis. Been watchin your videos for quite a while. Keep doin your thang. Also, it would help if you made a video about what to do when improvising
IMHO Lick 3 works better starting from F. That makes sense because it’s the same as Ab (or G#) in the other examples, which outlines a E7 chord that resolves in Am.
I love these licks. A suggestion: when applicable please explain the right hand fingering technique(s) employed. For example, on Lick #2 you drag your index across two strings followed by your middle finger dragging across 3 strings. I guess this would be called economy or efficient picking? I tried alternate picking Lick #2 and I don't even get close to the fluid sound you create using your technique. Thanks.
Bro!!!!!!!! That bass sounds incredible!!!! I always love your videos. But if I'm being honest with you.. I always want to adjust your EQ on your BassMod. It never sounds as full as this bass you're playing now. ( In this video) I don't know if it the preamp in the BassMod, but whatever is happening in that music man or Sterling ( whichever) .. That thing has a mean growl to it!!! I love it!! It immediately caused me to make the Ugly , Nasty, dumpster funk face!!! 🤣😂🤣😂 You are great, Bro!!!! I truly love and appreciate the blessing that you are to the body of Christ and the world at large!!! Keep up the great work!!
Hey Sir Travis you are a great bass player always fallow you but could you give something a little more worship type that just funky groove, love your playing but would appreciate some real worship groove and licks....Thanks...
ive only played bass a handfull of times and all i can play is the Orion lick and a bit of schism (i know mainstream stfu) but im concidering taking up bass i just play classic guitar but i think bass is seriously under-rated
The reason why this works is because it goes from Am to E7 then Am. Think of the diminished arpeggio as notes that are part of E7. Ab (actually G#) is the note that is normally not in Am. But you can use an E7 instead of an Em as a secondary dominant that will want to resolve to Am. The difference between Em and E7 is the third, which is G# (or Ab) instead of G.
Hey, good video, but PLEASE, do not start every video with explanation of the most basic concepts. Who doesn't know what diminished arpeggio is can easily look it up and then get back. Imagine this: you are binge watching all videos on diminished patterns and evey single one starts with explanation what diminished means.. I mean, that's borderline annoying.

Thank you, Boss 🙂.
This is very cool and helpful 😊

Thanks for putting this together Travis! keeping it lit always!!
Travis, great lesson brother.
I love that bass and the way you play it, real cool👍🏾
I love this tone rather than your bass before
Idea!!! Maybe let us know the progression. .Maybe indication how a F#m fits in an Am pentatonic scale
AMAZING !!
Great vid. Would love the reasoning and theory behind this as well. Why are we playing a F# diminished lick here? What key are we in?
Love the on screen tabs. Thanks

The application of the diminished scale wasn't on a diminished chord, it was on a minor chord to generate an outside effect?
Great stuff bro... I've got my stuff to work on this weekend and more. Love the diminished sound in combination with other scales and arpeggios etc...
ive only played bass a handfull of times and all i can play is the Orion lick and a bit of schism (i know mainstream stfu) but im concidering taking up bass i just play classic guitar but i think bass is seriously under-rated
Is that a Music Man or a Sterling? Either way, it sounds -- pardon the pun -- divine.
It’s a Sterling! Thanks man
Please what exercices do you use for improve your fingers to move fast on the bass guitar ?
🔥🔥🔥
Salam dari Indonesia ❤
nice video
Can you do some different keybass tones and how to achieve them?
NIce
BRO U JUST MEAN, 👍🙂
Nice playing! Do you have a link to the backing track?
Yo! Anybody know a good vid/site where I can practice Diminished scales for bass?
Day 1 of asking for a bass so i can learn to play in church like Travis
Cringe
@@Jayyy_Wav Jesus loves you!
@@JAYONFUEGO Bible says don’t be a beggar
I notice you use A flat a lot. Is that a Gospel Key ?
Who does this lick what song is this
What chord does the first lick work on ?
You can shift to any key if you know theory
OK but starting the lick at the Ab note, does that mean it works in A minor / on the chord of A minor? @@malinowski4691
Positioning my lefthand is still my major problem😔

yes these licks sound good but poorly explained in relation to the key ! Ab diminished?? explain please!! not good!!

Why you don't say in what key you are playing while doing all those arpeggios?????????? Dumb
