Well Done Micka. Conditions so tough, just prolonged cold, no brief pre-front days of 50. I think the "pattern" is suck. It is like this every year, but then you get a couple of warm days in a row and it is like the dinner bell rung.
Great info. When I see those bigger fish in amongst the gizzards like you did @18:55 I put out a live gizzard with a few knife slits suspended from a float at the depth they're at. That cast net looked dang cold, bet you can't wait for the temps to rise.
Yup... I tried "bait netting" (8' net) twice over the last few morns... Made one throw each time. My handline froze solid after pulling it out of the water. I ended up catching a few bluegill from the rocks for bait. Caught a few small cats yesterday. Definitely not the best of times ! 😂 Warmer weather on the way tho !
I will say when it comes to the snow melt water temp shift effecting the fish. It does in my experience. Here in Illinois, the Mississippi River the last few year what happens is-the river around here thaws, then begins coming up a good bit but not high, warms significantly, fish of all species are starting to bite really good. then as the early spring goes on, the northern sections of the Mississippi REALLY get thawing out if not thaw out completely, then that cold water moves it’s way down here, there’s usually a significant, sharp ish dropping temp swing of this section, the bite almost halts for 1-2 weeks and then slowly picks back up and stays that way as the water both rises substantially from the melt and warms up because it starts getting in the 50-60’s at night and 70’s+ during the day. Then it’s really on for that springtime high water hybrid and Flathead fishing which Is my favorite part of the year besides fall.
