Did you buy any other board games in 2022? To be more specific did you back any of the other "cagematch" games that KofA covered: Oathsworn, Tainted Grail, Middara, Stormsunder, or Arena)
@@synns6898 Oathsworn was a good attempt by Shadowborne Games (I give them credit for that), which to me , however, is just a 8/10 game. Finished the campaign within a week, fyi.
Stoked your copy arrived! I believe you are the reason I got invested in this project and very excited to dig into it once through Oathsworn :) so far I've played the learn to play (couldn't wait!) And I'm very impressed.
I had forgotten about this game and before got it two weeks ago. Having no prior knowledge of the gameplay, the tutorial absolutely blew me away. Now I just need to paint a few more titans before I start with cycle one. With the amount of story text, I'm starting to lean toward playing solo. Wish there was narration available to purchase, then group play would be an option.
Yes it will be a June to remember, that week in late July when I throw open my door and see that enormous shipping box sitting there in the September sunshine.
Years ago I saw your painting video and commented that I would likely do a super quick and simple dry brush scheme on this game to give it a stone look but it’s definitely going to get the full paint treatment…once I’m done with Oathsworn…and 2000 or so points of grey knights. Very much looking forward to getting this one tabled.
My box had massive damage too. But nothing inside was damaged 😅. The biggest gash exposed the playmat but didn't break the plastic around it. The packaging is substantial heh.
Mine was on a truck to be delivered today but the truck just turned around and headed back to the hub due to the weather... Ugh! Update the very last box was delivered today. Thank you to the extremely cold but very strong delivery guy for lugging around that extremely large and heavy package to my (trying hard to keep warm) game room.
A fantastic game. I was wondering why you were doing an unboxing so late but the first 3 seconds explained it all. Glad to hear you finally got it. Now you just need to find 300 hours to play through the thing 😀
Mine arrived last week. I’ve been excited about it since you showed it a few years ago.The shipping box was in much better condition. I wish that I had purchased the mat.
The box on top with the playmat also had a box for the cardboard tiles if you got them. I got to say that the cardboard tiles are of a great quality and better then the cards. Also its going to be harder for my cat to knock it down on the table if people let her in the game room.
Sorry to say but their limited supply of tiles ran out for vol 1-3 on gamefound and there is a a way to order vol 4-5 still and adjust your order. Not sure if they will add the map and tiles for vol 1-3 back on after they run out of their "extras" for future print runs...
This game is a table hog. I am glad I went with the tiles. I am building the map on a piece of cardboard so I can move it off and on the table as needed. The tiles keeps everything orderly. Nice and chunky.
I was quite happy overall with the miniatures, card quality, and the insert lids. The tokens and gameboard were fine enough, too. Unfortunately, I think in terms of quality, it about ends there. The inserts themselves are bit thinner, making them more prone to permenant bends, ecspecially since the game requires you to pull them out to access the materials in the bottom part of the box. The inserts are also not sleeve friendly, though I don't necessarily blame them for that, as most games arnen't. The quality of the books I found to be subpar, between the thinner pages that crinkle easily, and the smaller text (though not an issue for me personally). My dice also had damage similar to yours upon arrival. The insert with the extras was also of a lower quality and came with a much wosrse cardboard lid. That's all relatively small stuff, though, none of which I really care that much about. My two biggest gripes BY FAR are the box and the neoprene mat. I wouldn't be near as miffed about the mat, however, I explicitly asked Marcin back in February of 2020 if the mats would have edge stitching, and at first, he had responded that they were waiting on samples to come in from China to see if it was worth the cost, but hopefully he'd have an answer before the PM closed. The next day, he messaged me back, "Good news, we've decided to go stitched :)". Again, it wouldn't have been a big deal if not for the fact that I was specifically told it would. Then there's the box... I feel like they were trying too hard to do an "anti-KDM" theme, making the whole box white. Though I'm not a huge fan of either box, it somewhat works for KDM. Under light, the emblem gloss lightens up. In addition, the matte black of the KDM box absorbs additional colored light, leaving a decent contrast between the emblem and the box. For ATO though, the matte white box slightly refracts the color of the ambient lighting, making it blend far more with the glossy emblem. This actually makes it easier to see in darker environments. However, in better lit environments (like KoA's video), it becomes almost indistinguishable from the manufacturer's white box sample. I was really excited to make this game a central piece on my gaming shelf, but with a box like this, I'd almost rather hide it. I'm just surprised that this made it through everyone on their QA process. In addition, game developers have been doing lately the full coloring on the inside of the box to give their games a more premium feel. ATO, however, does not do this, leaving on the inside display the base carboard. With all that being said though, I am still very excited to start playing the game. The game itself looks fantastic, and the bits of story I have read have been phenomenal. Overall, I am willing to acknowledge that the game is fairly cheap (relatively speaking, of course), and given the rising prices over the past few years, maybe they needed to cut costs. Maybe there was a huge savings for not having to use ink on the box. As long as the game is good though, everything else may be acceptable enough.
Well put! I also heard the tiles would go in the box above, but that would leave nowhere for them to live in the main box as well which would be a bummer.
I'm considering get a custom art piece on the box to allow it to be displayed. Which is kind of a cool idea considering it can be customized however you want. But not sure how logistically it will work sending the box to an artist
I'm a little disappointed with the insert in the box for the components, and the complete lack of any dividers or guide to how to fit all the parts is a bit irritating. Still, it's a nice challenge to create my own version so I can sleeve the cards. I found it funny that my outer box is pristine, but one of the covers for the mini trays was almost cracked in half with chunks missing. Did it's job protecting the minis, but still, how. Beyond these minor nitpicks, I'm really impressed with the game, they've done a fantastic job with it. I was originally a bit dubious on the KS, so only purchased the first cycle, but now I'm all in for Kingdoms Forlorn and have picked up cycles 2 and 3. They really have done a convincing job!
My insert was fine, but I have many better inserts, then again Ive also gotten kickstarter games with no insert at all, and I literally use bags for the tokens and rubber bands for the cards.
Yeah, any insert is better than none. I'd have just preferred for there to be more explicit spaces for things. I think it's the complete lack of dividers that's throwing me the most, there's a LOT of cards, and they're all jammed together into one space that's not great for keeping them there.
@@Cynsye That is my biggest gripe as well. I use swan panasia thin sleeves so I was able to sleeve all the mini american cards that needed sleeved and they still fit. The standard size are a different story as I have only sleeved cycle 1 since it barely fits with just that. I also made some crude dividers out of cardstock so I have something but it feels weird having such a gorgeous box and then some crudely handwritten dividers for the cards.
Thank you for another very informative video. How would this compare to something like OAthsworn? I hpe that is a valid question since they both seem to be large dungeon type story games.
Well their are several differences is Oathsworn has a city phase were you go around the city and make choices, and those choices lead to the bosses/enemies for that chapter. In Aeon Trespass you are on a ship, and travel around a map collecting resources, and the enemies may chase you down, in which you fight them on the battle map, however you can avoid them until you are ready. During Battle in Oathsworn if your characters get hit, their is not way to get that hit point back until your done with the battle. In Aeon Trespass if you get hit your character gets stronger.
Gameplay-wise, this is brilliant. Production is really, really good. But as you said, stitching on the mat is a must. I would've liked to have seen the rulebooks/storybooks be spiral-bound rather than glue-bound, a more comprehensive player-aid, and a much MUCH better insert that dealt with all the card-types. Also, as an upgrade, I think that having actual physical terrain would've been super cool. Not that I can't print my own (tons of great column & ruin STLs out there), but something that aesthetically goes precisely with the game would've been outstanding. Other than... it's a quality piece.
First time I’ve seen this and I’m like “what’s with the plain box?”. Yeah not a fan of that dumb decision lol. I probably saw it and passed on it once I saw all the plastic. Cards look great.
This is one of those games I somehow managed to talk myself out of. Maybe I will pick it up in five years from one of those people that finally realize they don’t play campaign games.
Best of luck, it's gorgeous and gameplay seems top notch so far :) I'd caution patience with TGG though, got Etherfields through them and yet to receive or hear any response from them.
Hey anyone still hasn't received their tracking number of your game. Because it has been almost a week since the last time I commented here. I begin to worry that my shipment is going to be delivered. I even looked up at some of the Hong Kong UA-camrs. They also have received theirs. Should I contact the Green logistics about my order ?
Leaving a comment as someone who still does not have tracking info even... So yeah ^^;; Last I heard yesterday there were still around 200 orders not picked up...
Wow this is a massive big box game, I have seen a lot of them for sale in the markets, not tempted to buy it though, have enough big box stuff to last me a life time. I am sure that I have probably paid more than that on other games, if I added it all up e.g. Massive Darkness 1 and 2, but at the moment, it is out of range of what I am prepared to spend. Looks fantastic though?!
I was in your boat. Saw the late pledge increases didn’t want to pay it. It goes in secondary market for £285-310. I paid £300. Don’t regret a single penny of that spend. Best big box game I’ve ever played.
