So excited for the review! One of the coolest products I have seen in a while and it totally makes sense that engineers from DJI made something like this.
Very interesting product and loved the review. Would be nice to see what the app features are like can you build a workout within the app that way you don't have to spend too much time changing the load on the screen. Also, do we know how long the battery will last and cost to swap it etc? Is the screen prone to cracking if you drop an accessory on it? Is this something you would have to be careful of when using it?
Last thought; an idea might be for them to offer a sturdy vest with attachment (like a weight vest but no weights needed) so that with something to elevate like 2 chairs you could use this for the equivalent of "weighted pushups" similar to bench press when you travel, or to possibly replace any need for barbells at all even at home, if one likes using this instead of live weights
Ive been waiting for magnetic resistance training devices where you can dial in the weight precisely but this is as close to that as probably safer. awesome tech
These new electrical weight systems are truly awesome. Fantastic devices. Very female and beginner friendly. Very clean, no mess, small space,... These are best for penthouse weight rooms, hotel gyms, office building gyms,..... For the home, I prefer bars with chalk and blood, combined with rusty steel noisy plates, smash a finger get pissed off and then hit a new PR.
I think I'd stick with a Unitree Pump. It only goes up to 44lbs of resistance, but they're only ~$300 USD. I bought a couple when they first launched and they served me very well until I got my Rep rack with Athena. This has better control of features, but that price tag is a huge limiter.
I totally agree about the unitree pump. The other thing that I am struggling with is I don’t own a rack (no room for one). So the mounting options for this device seems to be a bit limiting. The unitrees can mount to just about anything including doors, and the fact that you can sync several of them together with all of the features that Coop demonstrates in this video seems to be a better value. I just checked, and the unitree’s are going for around $200 now, getting 6 of them (240lb max) would cost 1/2 of this device with what I think is a ton more mounting flexibility. I guess a downside for the unitree would be the battery life. However, for me, it’s not that big of a deal to simply charge them every two or three workout sessions.
It be cool if they made a kit to make it a portable row machine, they could possibly turn into a ski erg sooner with a software update, assuming you'll mount it to a rack/wall you'd only need a new cable attachment
I could see this in retirement homes. If people can attach a “rack”/frame to a wall it would easily allow older folks to have a functional trainer in their room.
*For anyone who's thinking of getting two units to do bilateral movements* (like dead lifts and bench presses). I just want you to understand that the experience may not be what you expect. Because it's two motors that aren't synced, they create this really unstable and jerky movement when attached to the same bar. Take a look at 10:30 in the video to see what I mean. In my opinion, these are really cool but don't bother getting two. Just get one and use it for exercises where 200lb is enough weight. I should say I haven't tried these but I've tried another similar product (made in Italy that I forgot the name of)
In the clip @ 10:30 he is not using two devices. There are two cables connected to each end of the bar to the same device. That configuration will be unstable. But you do make a good point otherwise and it would be nice to see how 2 separate devices would feel when used together.
Buying two is the only thing that makes sense. Most people would want these to mimic a functional trainer. How you gonna do cable flys with only one of these?
I truley think this product or one similar will be the next essential versatile option same as a dumbell/barbell/cable. There are just too many applications for this. One thing I hope they program would be the inverse of band tension, replicating what something like Prime equipment can accomplish.
Subscription models ensure the company continues to support and improve which adds to the products longevity. People that are saying they’d rather pay more now than pay less and use a subscription service for continued support and improvement don’t truly understand how products work. This is why Tonal and other companies aren’t making a “new” version every year to try and make you want to upgrade. If you buy something and you want the product to improve and not be a forgotten paperweight after 5 years you want the company to have a reason to continue to invest which is why I prefer subscription models. This is like the age old argument “I never finance, if I can’t use cash I don’t want it”. This is because people don’t understand the benefits of financing the same way they make fun of people who lease cars. Continue to educate yourself on the evolution of business so you don’t fall behind and lose out in the end.
When tonal first came out I was asking if I could move this in a vanlife type situation. They said no. This is gold just for the mobility of it all! So excited!
Buy one rack pillar and add a drawbar to fit your 2" towing receiver and store on a roof rack when not in use? Or mount a single rack pillar cut down inside of van? Or maybe they make a wall mount? Good luck!
If you have two of them, and attach a barbell, would you be able to get 400 pounds of resistance total? 200 per each side? Or is there a reason where the weight distribution would be different and not actually 400? If so this could be great for heavier deadlifts, squats, bench, etc
The heavy negatives is an exciting prospect. For curls the only thing similar using standard cables is cheating the weight up with a bit of leg power then strict form on the eccentric.
Couldn't wait to see your review of this. I don't think this is the answer for cable machines, but certainly is moving innovation forward in the home gym space. Too bad the pricing. If it was $2500/pair, I would jump all over this. Also. I wish these companies would stop with this subscription model. It's clouding the actual cost of the items.
I can totally envision people putting this in the van life builds. Personally i would have it atach to the outside of the van or when you open the door it attached to the inside(not on the door)
Great idea but there is few similar products for fraction of price. The only reason you would buy one of resistance pulleys is to avoid paying whole price of the standalone cable station (that is around 2.5k for 100kg stack). I know the size also matters but then if you can fit a power cage then it's also cheaper to get power cage with cable pulleys (yes they build them). Don't get me wrong, if that device would be for 20% of current value I would for sure consider getting 2 for my power cage. 🤞 they will lower the cost by removing the screen and battery just to have a pure mechanical device that is affordable.
This is an amazing machine, and basically the idea I have had in my head for a long time. The problem is the price tag, this is a $300-$400 machine at scale. You are 100% paying for being the innovation leader. $2k is mental, I don't need magnesium alloy body, I don't need an electrically actuated mounting mechanism, I just need a solid case that contains a field operated motor with batteries and some PID control for resistance. I'll wait for the $350 mass made Chinese version, hopefully not too far away, as I have been waiting for years.
Great review. Coop how did you anchor the black 3x3 upright that you attached the Beyond Power Voltra to? Is it attached to the floor or table? Being able to have a single 3x3 upright you could then use for dips, resistance work from this or using a leg roller for split squats seems really useful
The features and convenience are pretty cool. Hiwever wish they didnt include the touch screen and it was just a few buttons like on a remote. They could have a movile app with all the extra tweaking and features instead.
DJI engineers have done some amazing things. They recently revolutionized the 3D printing home market with Bambu Labs. Real innovation and great quality, I feel like DJI was the start of China getting in the game for high end electronics.

Ive lost 56 lbs so far using an all in one gym plus Nordictrack select weight dumbbells, Rep Ez curl bar, Rep ab3000 2.0 bench. I am Interested in a dip station but still to heavy to do all of my body weight for dips or chin ups. I saw this machine online and thought it would be great for building up to full body weight exercises. Thanks for all the great content! Jim
@@GarageGymReviews review it soon. This is one of the most intriguing products I've seen. It basically make my rep ares seem obsolete...assuming it's reliable and give the same continuous force. I know some devices like this don't.
Really interested in the negative being heavier, as is supposed to be really good for development. I hope these turn up in gyms, as I do not want to pay a few grand for one.
my experience in the industry says price point = tiny market = not viable, peloton has lost billions, fitness products are tough, buyers at these prices are scarce, peloton expected 100 million users by now, they have 4 million, you can write anything in a business plan or pitch, reality is different
Changing the resistance on the return ... being able to mix it however you want is a game changer. And in time I would expect putting in an actual resistance curve, which would be greater still (unless it already does that). I would say, within a few years there will be all kinds of this device, at various prices.
2100 usd. In Canada that’s 2832CAD. I’ll be honest, it may be awesome but so is 2832 dollars worth of bars/plates/ free weights/ kettlebells …. Ideally you need two “VOLTRA 1” units at 5664 dollars. So that’s even more free weights.
But this is not for everyone. If you travel a lot it's perfect, if you don't have space at home for a home gym (like an apartment etc) it is good. Personally I live in an apartment and travel a lot for sometimes a week or 2 in a van into the middle of nowhere, so being able to have something like this would be amazing. It's a niche product for a niche audience. And compare it to the Tonal or Vitruvian and the prices aren't too far apart either (and this one has no subscription)
@@Merciuh it’s not perfect and it doesn’t make sense. Are you paying 5664 dollars…. Doubt it. If you play in the nfl it makes sense, for a normal person you grab resistance bands and a Trx for travel.
What is the pull chord made of? The chord material looks like woven nylon or poly. This would be the most likely part of product to fail. If so, how expensive would a new pull chord cost and would it be a DIY replacement?
Being able to change the concentric and eccentric weights is a game changer, but I can't justify that price. I'll be interested to see how low the price can eventually go.
Is that an old Baldwin Denim hat? I have one of those, and it's been a long time since I've seen someone else with one. I don't even think you can get them anymore, because I don't think Baldwin Denim exists anymore.
Very impressive product and as always, great review. Still. With how much gym cost has dropped, at least in my area, would it be cheaper to go to a gym?!
Had been waiting on that review for some time! Once they come out with a 400lbs V2, it'll be an absolute must-have. Still gonna probably grab a pair of 1s as is.
I'm very curious about electronic resistance trainers. But I have yet to see one that makes sense. The Voltra is $2,500 for 200 lbs of resistance -- not a good deal. They show people hooking 2 of these to a power rack, which gets you 400 lbs, but costs $5,000!! Note that the mounts are extra, at least $250. Also, the "cable" is string that looks like it would be worn out in weeks, and costs $100 to replace. The battery is $400 ($800 for a pair) to replace. Altogether, looks like it would cost around $3,000 over the next couple of years to maintain one, or $6,000 to maintain two of them.
I'd never get this for rdls, the rom is already limited by the plates being too big and this seems to start even higher, surely you aim to increase flexibility as much as possible in your hamstrings.
@@amazingwil Thanks, I know. At the end of the video he said he was going to specifically compare it to others and mentioned some, but not Ancore. That's why I suggested a direct comparison.
You can't just put this on a rack that's not bolted down to the floor. And that little platform accessory isn't big enough, so you would have to build your own floor platform for it. And all the debate about the app....ANY app, tied to a product, is a TEMPORARY feature, ....so as long as it works perfectly without an app, then fine. Because apps are always flakey, and apps get abandoned and stop working. Simple as that. If you relied on an app for this product, then eventually you would have a $5000+ useless boat anchor.

Imagine this paired with a bulletproof isolator on their single post stand. Incredible.
The fixed mounts that he didn’t show could screw into just about anything that can take the load
Feel the same way. This thing is great for people looking to add cable flys to their rack
How long does the battery last with regular usage and the price of replacing it?
It be cool if they made a kit to make it a portable row machine, they could possibly turn into a ski erg sooner with a software update, assuming you'll mount it to a rack/wall you'd only need a new cable attachment
My first thought watching those deadlifts.. that bar is eventually going through that screen when you let go :D
The parachute mode seems interesting as a way to auto regulate resistance based on your power (like actual dropsets)
I should say I haven't tried these but I've tried another similar product (made in Italy that I forgot the name of)
He's only using a single unit in your example. Your point might still stand, but I wouldn't link that clip as proof that the two won't work together.
@@BrandonSchwartz1 you're right, my mistake.
@@hitleractually8180 🤦♂ that's for your username.... 🤦♂ and that's for thinking that cable fly's are the pinnacle of cable training
The ability to change loads like that is HUGE !
This would be the best rehabilitation tool .
I truley think this product or one similar will be the next essential versatile option same as a dumbell/barbell/cable. There are just too many applications for this. One thing I hope they program would be the inverse of band tension, replicating what something like Prime equipment can accomplish.
Very interesting. I'm curious how long that thin rope lasts and if they will have replacements for it.
great, i might have to get a crossbar for my power rack so i can attach it to the floor and use this for weighted pullups...
445 with weight off the bar
The heavy negatives is an exciting prospect. For curls the only thing similar using standard cables is cheating the weight up with a bit of leg power then strict form on the eccentric.
Couldn't wait to see your review of this. I don't think this is the answer for cable machines, but certainly is moving innovation forward in the home gym space. Too bad the pricing. If it was $2500/pair, I would jump all over this. Also. I wish these companies would stop with this subscription model. It's clouding the actual cost of the items.
Looks great for reverse squats, I’ve been looking for a good solution for that.
When the most revolutionary thing cost as much as a decent budget home gym set up x.x lol
This product looks insane
This thing is incredible. I hope the app is well designed to keep track of workouts.
Make a bench with attachment points that use that
wow this looks amazing. definitely top on my wishlist
I want constant change in resistance with timed reps like an arx
Hey Coop! Would you do a review on the body solid pro weight assist dip chin up machine?
Ive lost 56 lbs so far using an all in one gym plus Nordictrack select weight dumbbells, Rep Ez curl bar, Rep ab3000 2.0 bench. I am Interested in a dip station but still to heavy to do all of my body weight for dips or chin ups.
I saw this machine online and thought it would be great for building up to full body weight exercises.
Thanks for all the great content!
Jim
They shuuld make a wall instalation for these. On wood and or on concrete.
Wonder if that screen can survive getting smoked by a dropped handle…
Maybe we'll see what happens in that scenario in the full review!
I've thought about that too. Potentially why their handles are carbon fiber and not metal. - Coop
@@GarageGymReviews review it soon. This is one of the most intriguing products I've seen. It basically make my rep ares seem obsolete...assuming it's reliable and give the same continuous force. I know some devices like this don't.
I'm so glad we get to see a review of this soon. I looked at it recently and it seems awesome but its way too expensive to blind buy.
Someone needs to start a chain where you can try these products out. Crazy to spend this much without a demo.
Is the cable long enough that you can have the travel-board on the ground and overhead press with it?
Have you tried belt squatting with this?
That I pretty similar to the box a Phantom 4 comes in.
Friday GGR! Best way to start the weekend :)
Lets go!
What about Sole SRVO? No subscription, universal carabiner attachment, but only $1650.
If you were to lose control and the handle flies out of your hands, any Chan’s of the display getting wrecked ??
Been waiting for this review
looks really advanced, i however will have to keep using my Amazon resistance bands at that price point
The cost of two should be on par or close to the cost of functional trainers. I'm either getting the Rep Fitness Arcadia, Athena, or this.
Is that an old Baldwin Denim hat? I have one of those, and it's been a long time since I've seen someone else with one. I don't even think you can get them anymore, because I don't think Baldwin Denim exists anymore.
I would love to see Coop review the Isokinator by Koelbel Research.
Mini tonal without the screen. Basically tug of war with a motor.
COOP Guys its Garage Gym from Hi Reviews
Off all the things you dont need in a homegym this is up the list
This is exactly what Ive wanted for a long time! Price is a bit out of reach for me, especially for a pair. But I hope they come down.
Very impressive product and as always, great review. Still. With how much gym cost has dropped, at least in my area, would it be cheaper to go to a gym?!
This could be really awesome for traveling actually. Looking forward to the comparison Coop!
Should come with extra ropes.. how hard is it to service?
Had been waiting on that review for some time! Once they come out with a 400lbs V2, it'll be an absolute must-have. Still gonna probably grab a pair of 1s as is.
Whoo! I've been waiting for this review! Thanks so much!
Cool, but too expensive. Costs as much as the REP functional trainer. Only makes sense if the space saving is worth it for you.
I'd never get this for rdls, the rom is already limited by the plates being too big and this seems to start even higher, surely you aim to increase flexibility as much as possible in your hamstrings.
Compare it to Ancore too.
He did a review of it before.
@@amazingwil Thanks, I know. At the end of the video he said he was going to specifically compare it to others and mentioned some, but not Ancore. That's why I suggested a direct comparison.
Using this with a squat rack. With no other weight on the rack, what would be the best option to weigh down the rack while using these?
Is there an app to control it easier and monitor your workouts ?
Can you do static holds with this one? If so, if you raise it on 100 and hold it, will it be 100 or what you set the lowering weight to be?
awesome stuff
2100 for one is actually insane lol. They can keep it
1. Can you use it without the app?
2. Can you set it to kg’s?
Does anyone know what jacket coop is wearing from arcteryx?
You can't just put this on a rack that's not bolted down to the floor.
And that little platform accessory isn't big enough, so you would have to build your own floor platform for it.
And all the debate about the app....ANY app, tied to a product, is a TEMPORARY feature, ....so as long as it works perfectly without an app, then fine. Because apps are always flakey, and apps get abandoned and stop working. Simple as that. If you relied on an app for this product, then eventually you would have a $5000+ useless boat anchor.
The string seems to be the weak point. Curious to see how it will hold long term...
dji guys makes a dam good stuffs
