Update for folks interested in the MP3 - Just added it to the Shop page over on my Patreon. Here's the Shop link: www.patreon.com/MichaelKelly/shop Or for a link that takes you directly to the song so you don't have to search around for it: www.patreon.com/MichaelKelly/shop/thomas-rhymer-danny-carnahan-cover-based-591141?source=storefront - - If you're interested in multiple songs and want to save money, I also have MP3's available bundled into 5-song EP's for about 30% off. Also, be sure to buy directly through the Patreon store page, rather than through iOS. Apple charges you a markup of up to 50% more for using the app, and NONE of that extra cost goes to support the artist.
'... The Narrow road leads to paradise, though it winds through thorn'd tree. The broad road, to the gates of hell, though fair it seems to be..." This line always sticks with me, even though its an old metaphor. Everything about this song conveys the beautiful danger of fairy-folk in such simple and classically poetic ways. Even though the song sounds like a love ballad, you get a lingering sense of dread about Thomases journey throughout.
I couldn't find the chords so I made a chart for the two different verses, the pattern repeats through the song. C F Thomas lay upon the Huntley bank C G And beheld a lady gay C F Riding out so brisk and bold Am G F All on a summer's day C F Her skirt was of the silk so green C G And her cloak of velvet fine C F And at each toss her horse's mane Am G F Rang with fifty bells and nine G C True Thomas did salute her, Am G F Bending down upon his knee C F "Well met," he said, "enchanting one C G For you're the flower of this country" G C And as he gazed upon her, Am G F How so blind in love was he C G That he hath kissed her rosy lips C G * intro G thing* All beneath the Eildon tree
Would you happen to plan to do a Scots version of this song? I know it's not always the easiest to do, but I find it works really well for poetry and song.

Absolutely beautiful song, I heard Danny Carnahan sing it ages ago. Thanks for posting it.
