Squarebody Chevy K10/C10 Windshield Frame Rust Repair

- My 1983 Chevy K10 had a badly rusted out front window frame, with holes protruding into the cab. Here, I show you how I custom hand fabricated new sheetmetal to replace the rusted out portions of the windshield frame, and welded them into place.

Just a note, I believe the holes at the bottom right and left corners are to let moisture drain out
Those holes were rusted through no holes there normally
Seems like a new cab would have been easier. Is this a k20 or k30? What's max payload on it?
Probably so...just wanted to save the original cab. This is a K10 with upgraded Dana 44/60 axles and leaf springs. Originally 1/2 ton truck, so not sure what the max payload is. The camper weighs about 500 lbs, so the truck actually rides better with it on.
Whish we saw the process to the end. What did you use to seal the channel? epoxy/color base paint /clear then urethane primer before the windshield install?
I used an etch primer first to bond to the bare metal, then used a filler primer so I could smooth out any minute blemishes, then a sealer epoxy primer. Paint is single stage to match the rest of the truck.
@@Savagecamper Couldn't you just have used the epoxy then DTM high build and go from there?
@@Supanova70 I believe so. The error I made was I used white filler primer and realized the factory primer was grey. Since paint has translucency, this would have thrown off the color from exact matching the existing.
@@Supanova70 a simple fix was to cover the filler with epoxy sealer primer which provided a really smooth finish for laying the paint down
