    We love Math You See! The nice short videos are so good. We almost did IEW but decided to go with EIW instead. It has much shorter videos and also includes grammar. It had levels to where I could even start my first grader on simple writing as well.

    I noticed you don’t have more recent videos… I would LOVE an update on how these curriculum choices are going for your 3rd grader!

    I taught my 3rd grader IEW 1A SSS by spreading lessons out. It can take us 2-3 weeks to work through all the bullets on the IEW 5-day plan. He does IEW 3 times a week, and we are going to just keep going with it into 4th.

      Thank you for your input! That was exactly my thoughts just taking it super slow, and scaling back where he needs to.

    We are doing IEW SSS with my 3rd grader. He is doing fine, we sometimes take more than a week to do a 'week' but he is managing the work fine.

    We also stopped TGTB math level 2. I was going to try to hold out til the end of the year with her. She was past halfway but I didn’t love how it taught multiplication in level 2. So we quit. I’m just putting stuff together until the end of the year until math with confidence 3 comes out.
    We did Our Star Spangled Story a few years ago and loved it. It helped my oldest come to love History

    With S&S, you can complete the course more slowly, over 2 years, and then do 1-2 years of their themed writing courses that correspond to his grade level. They learn the method of writing in the S&S course, and then they can choose from the other courses and get more practice with their S&S skills.

    With structure and style we go with my 4th graders pace. Sometimes it took us 3 weeks to do a weeks worth. You can split I up that way you only do half this year and other half next year. That’s what I’m doing.

    We also really like All About Spelling, great program! We started IEW a few weeks ago, so far it’s been really good!(5th grader) I casually tried to have my 3rd grader start IEW with us, but he isn’t ready, didn’t make it through the first video.(He’s currently doing TGATB LA Level 2)

      We decided to hold off on S & S for 3rd grade this year and I think it was the best decision! Like you, we focused on fun readers (or books he was interested in), Spelling and Grammar. That was it! He said it was his favorite year of school so far😂 Now that he's had a whole year to work on fluency, comprehension, and spelling I think he'll be MUCH better equipped to hand S & S. It is SO tempting to do ALL the things every year! But we have time to get it all done. I forget I don't have to master every Language Arts topic every single year😂

    It sounds like you have a great year planned 🎉
    I think with IEW S and S that you have kind of an easy to hard lay out and it will say something like "ages or grades do this and older kids do that" or the blue folder/binder from IEW says it like that. But, we mostly use the themed writing books.
    I have a plan for the upcoming school year but I remain flexible in my mind. We are sticking with the math that has worked for us. We combine "Math Lessons for a Living Education" with Easy Peasy Math for my oldest (4th) and youngest (1st). My rising 3rd-ish grader, will just be doing Easy Peasy Math.
    Then my oldest does Classical Conversations Essentials program for her LA then she and I discussed and I will assign 5 books the rest is her choice. My middle daughter (the 3rd-ish grader) will continue with hooked on phonics and McGuffey's readers. She also does oral narration and Copy-work. The same for the 1st grader. My two oldest do spelling together using a vintage speller called, "The Aldine Speller". We cover everything else pretty much with our Classical Conversations Co-op Community.

      @@Homeschoolingonpurpose the beauty of homeschooling is that you can adapt it or even say hey this is an awesome program but I think I’ll wait until next year if it just seems to be a little too advanced. Great picks. We are doing My Star Spangled Story this year and we are doing TGTB science although we have the old versions. I’m a little afraid the revised versions are going to fall flat for me with how little of content there is compared to the old ones but I want to try one out over the summer to see what we think before I order several for 23-24 school year.

    how was the transition in Math? My second grader just finished TGTB program, and wanting to move to Math U See, but TGTB didn't teach decimal adding or carrying multiple times in grade 2, which would have been already covered in Math U See Beta. Technically yes the Gamma would be the third grade level but how did you make the smooth transition with that advanced addition gap being there?

    • @Homeschoolingonpurpose
      @Homeschoolingonpurpose  Місяць тому

      The transition was as I suspected it would be. We had to take multiplication slower than normal because he had to really understand the carrying the concept that he did not get good ground work on. But moving now into delta I’m still glad I did it! Math u see is wonderful, and just take it slow and review concepts that need help. Sometimes my son would need a week of addition and subtraction review and that was totally ok!
