    I appreciate the high quality and plain spoken way you perform reviews. I have to say, the GV60 argument seems weak considering the in-house competition from the Ionic5 and EV6. Two requests; 1. Review more vehicles for the "common man". Lately it seems you're concentrating on premium models. That may be a reflection of availability. 2. Shorten the length of your reviews. Not long ago your video reviews were closer to 10 minutes. I often skip longer videos, preferring to get a " quick take". Of course serious shoppers may appreciate the in-depth review. Regardless, I continue to enjoy your excellent reviews.

    Wireless CarPlay is certainly convenient. Using it, Apple Maps, streaming music or listening to a book on a long trip decreases the iPhone’s battery about as fast as a Hummer eats a tank of gas. You end up plugging in the iPhone anyway. It’s always something! Another great review, Tom. Thanks!

On longer drives, so far between the qi charging loss heat, and the heat from running location services it turns every in-car wireless charger I’ve used into a phone oven, roasting the phones battery. 12:08 Tom- the wireless Car Play/AA issue with Hyundai/Kia isn't a technological issue. A Hyundai rep at an event last year said it's more of a licensing dispute with Apple/Google over whether their GPS map or Hyundai's maps are displayed as the default on their larger screens. Seems quite silly to me but that's what he said. Hopefully it's resolved soon.

    Not as attractive as the Ionic 5 even though it may be more luxurious on the inside. The Ionic 5 is still my favorite EV at this point but the Caddy Lyric(?) is truly gorgeous. Overall, the EV market is heating up and offerings like these should coax more people into making the transition away from ICE-cars. Still, what the world needs is a great entry-level EV that offers up a little more space, speed, substance and features that what is out there now. A Civic EV (in the same price range) is what the masses need, me especially. Make a Civic EV estate and I'd be sold. So yeah, I want a unicorn and will likely never get what I want for my next new car. Anyway, another great review.

    Great video, Tom. I’m trying to understand the GV60s value proposition compared to other EVs at this price point. The exterior, IMO, doesn’t look premium. Sporty, yes, but it doesn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the Genesis offerings design-wise. For me, the interior may have great materials but the design looks a lot like the much cheaper Ioniq 5. In fact, I think a loaded Ioniq 5 is the GV60’s biggest competitor. Genesis is definitely going after the higher end of EVs. The GV60 starts at $59k. The Electrified G80 starts at $79k. I’m guessing the Electrified GV70 will slot in around $69k. That E-GV70 may end up being a bigger seller than the GV60 due the the more premium design inside and out, but that will depend on what kind of range and performance the E-GV70 has.

    May I suggest a "Mississippi" tune-up? They should track seconds pretty precisely, so a triple meter will get us there: 1 2& 3& 1 2& 3& (one Mississippi, two Mississippi")--instead of the duple meter 1 &a 2e(&) 1 &a 2e(&)--which makes the timing longer than seconds. This is hard to put into typing, sure! (Music notation would work.) But make it like a jazz waltz (triple) rather than a walk (duple, 1 2) to get seconds. Fun fact (since you give us so many): This is what Shari Lewis (the great ventriloquist, singer, dancer, etc.) was taught by her education professor father in New York City.

So models with built-in Navi don’t get wireless and those without on board gps get wireless connectivity. True, it's not practical for some, but it is for others (or necessary) . Everyone situation is different. Running 240V from my very old house to my garage (that's detached, concrete and buried into the side of a hill) is very expensive. I've been quoted $4K if I had someone do it. Live in a condo or town home? 120 might be the only way to go. “Save thousands on the Level 2 installation”. Come on Tom. That’s BS. The chargers cost from $300-700 and an electrician between $500-1,000 depending on how complicated your install is. Plus you get a $300 tax credit from the federal government and other incentives from local governments and utilities. For someone who is testing EVs all the time you should definitely get one.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  2 роки тому

      Not at all BS. According to many sources, the average cost is $2K when all is said and done. And when it comes to older homes, or ones with detached garages, it can be double that. My house is especially bad. It's 105 years old with a detached concrete garage set into a hill. I had an outfit bid $4,400 to do everything, including burying the cable and updating the panel. Another bid $5K. So 120V with two PHEVs is working just fine for me for now until my electrician friend gets some spare time and I get some exercise digging 30 feet of trench.

      @mcrkon 2 роки тому

      @@DrivenCarReviewsI’m sorry to hear about your situation but don’t throw everybody in the same bag. I got a nice ChargePoint Flex home charge for $700 and a separate 240V/50 Amp circuit for $650 here in Ballard (Seattle). Minus a $300 tax credit. In Snohomish county, like in many other places, they throw in another $500 incentive.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  2 роки тому +1

      @@mcrkon I'm happy for you, that's awesome. Great price. I have to be realistic though and the national average is around $2K including tax breaks and incentives. I'm not using my personal situation in this case, I'm painfully aware it's on the high end. FYI, my brother-in-law had an average install with an attached garage. Needed a panel update. Including charger and credits, it came to $1,800. And that was the low bid. Part of it was the cable run where he wanted the charger located, which was the other side of the garage from the panel. My brother's install was much less. Newer panel that was 5 feet from where he wanted it located. An easy update he did himself. Lower than your price.

    i tell u. now unless it is like the Citroen Oli. i am not tempted at all. only orderimg the taycan cross turismo as a trophy. more desire to use the Oli as a daily. Of course since i can only afford to pay so much in insurance. i would only able to afford the Taycan. on to the genesis. i would be tempted to get it as my first car which i kind of did. but once i know better, i quickly traded it for a used S2000 instead.

    Curious: Why are (most) OEMs ignoring PHEVs & (Range Extended EVs)?
    It eliminates the biggest downside of BEVs: finding a charger on a road trip that isn't occupied, ICED, vandalized, broken or in a private lot.
    Spending a charging session on a rainy night with crying toddlers or a whining doggo will keep people happlily in their 15mpg SUVs.
    A PHEV gives owners 15,000 miles pure electric commuting annually on cheap, clean home electricity.
    What gives?

    I love your videos, their relevance and their superb quality. You well explain the advantages of EVs. Where I live in Iowa the right wing has declared war on EVs, despite Iowa being one of the top states in wind generation. Paradoxes being a staple of the far right, their reasoning is the promotion of corn based ethanol, while simultaneously also opposing carbon capture pipelines. Right wing extremist politics has accelerated the brain drain with rapidly deteriorating cognitive ambience.

    I just don't understand the EV horsepower race. If their purpose is really to conserve / reduce energy consumption. Can't they get extra range without extra horsepower? Who needs 0 0-60. Yeah, its fun but it's pure dissipation. Give me a car with 300 miles range and I settle for 0-60 in 8 seconds.

      Most EVs are still about $20K out of the average, so manufacturers still have some wiggle room to play with some of the parameters (HP). Once the generally accepted range for EVs comes down to more realistic daily use cases, maybe around 150-200 mile range; then we'll start to see EVs that are probably cheaper than ICE vehicles.

    Great video. Please start including battery degredation and battery replacement costs. O've been hearing numbers from $12,000 to $20,000 or more. If this is true, it will be a great scam for automakers to screw us all over 7-10 years after we buy the car.

    "Stuffed with tech"... A concept I think that is really slowing down the implementation of EVs. Power windows. Power mirrors. A kick'n stereo. That is 100% of the electronic nonsense I need in a CAR.
    -
    Ambient lighting. Internet access. Doors that open automatically. DOOR HANDLES (for Christ's stake) that open automatically. Fobs, yeah you heard me, fobs - I have the mental and physical capacity to operate a KEY. Oh god, screens. Giant screens. Multiple screens. Touch screens. HAPTIC ANYTHING. Don't get me started on the NANNY TECH... oh god, look over my shoulder to check my blind spot? The horror! And this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg...
    -
    All this 'tech' really does is jack up the price. I have to imagine you could easily knock off $10k-$15k off these EVs if you just got rid of the 'tech baggage'. Aaaand, we all know how our phones, and laptops suffer from being based on the computer chip. I can see it now, stranded on the side of the road talking to tech support... "well sir, have you tired turning the car off then back on again?" Ha ha ha ha... I'm laughing so that I don't start crying...
    -
    The car company that comes out first with a 'basic' 99% analogue EV (short of a big battery with long range, and quick charging times) is going to win the EV war. Seriously, what is the average price for the EVs that get 350-400 miles a charge? It has to be $70k-$80k. That's over double the ICE equivalents.
    -
    I was in the market this year for a new pickup. Sure, the Rivian is one of the most amazing vehicles on the planet (as good off-road as a jeep, supercar acceleration, and semi-luxury cabin). But when a PICKUP starts at $80,000. (Key word STARTS)... I ended up with a Honda Ridgeline, for all of $42k. The $38k I saved will buy a lot of gas. (And I have zero charging issues, range anxiety, etc).
