SLI 2023/2024 Payload Demonstration Fight

Explorer Post 1010 has a team in the NASA Student Launch Initiative for 2023/2024. The team’s mission is to construct and launch a high power rocket to an altitude of 4000 feet, and to fix the descent time of the rocket with an auto-reefing system.
They tested the parachute reefing payload on March 16, 2024 at the the NOVAAR Great Meadows launch site in Virginia. It successfully flew to 1393ft on a Aerotech J615ST-20A Aerospike motor. They purposely used a less powerful motor to keep the landing in the launch area but still get useful payload operations and data. Flight data was captured with two Missile Works RRC3 altimeters. The sky was clear, wind was around 10mph, temperature was around 60F, and it landed around 250 yards from the launch site. The drogue chute was deployed at apogee, and the main chute was deployed at 1100ft.
