  • (Miles) Jeffery Game Day was a poet, who was well known as a Bristol Scout pilot during the First World War. Killed in action in 1918, the bulk of his poetry was only released after the war when a friend collected his work together and published.
In this video, David Bremner, a modern day Bristol Scout builder and pilot, recites his favourite Day poem, "On The Wings Of The Morning".

What a fantastic video. Thank you.
The Scout is so beautiful and elegant in its simplicity. Like the Pup or the Neiuport 11 it's one of those planes which, by being so diminutive and clean, must be as close as a human can get to just having a pair of wings.
A lovely thing and a wonderful poem. RIP Lt. Day.

Definitely a beautiful little plane. And a wonderful poem. I put one of these in my series of plane quizzes in YT shorts.

Many find memories for my revolve around the Bristol Scout. The first balsa and tissue paper aeroplane kit my dad built was the Guillows "Bristol Bullet", as they called it. It was a D Scout and to me the aeroplane that one would envision as a World War I biplane in appearance. I so enjoy watching the videos of this extraordinary Bristol as it is so well balanced of a 1913 design that in general was the example that guided others such as Sopwith, Neiuport and even Fokker designs.
