  • Earlier today, Rabbi Sacks spoke in a House of Lords debate on worldwide antisemitism. Here is a video of his remarks in which he argued that a society, or a political party, that tolerates antisemitism or any form of hate, has forfeited all moral credibility.

You can tell how well the speech was attended how low fighting anti-Semitism is among British priorities.

Small slots are allotted for raising concerns.
That's a normal turnout for a regular day at the House of Lords.
To be making a speech as such, be sure, the issues are tabled.
No ghettos happening here, no way. People can choose to stay close, why not, but no ghettos.
No hatred surfacing with any political support, no way. If it does, it has its day but you won't see it tomorrow! Everything is very carefully watched and considered. This is a multi cultural, multi faith country, that's that.
Things are only changing for the better.
Either believe in good and truth or don't, its a personal choice.

Hey Ryan, my comment was about human nature and I am vaguely aware of some Jewish prophecy about Edom being destroyed and it's a good thing for it means the comming of the massiah. My knowledge comes from the banned resurrection Europa video though.

      "Scapegoat is a Jewish idea"
was/is indeed - a very wise and harmless idea..
same as the concept of "Karma" is a wise buddhist perspective on the human condition and how it fits into the world - but one not well understood by western culture..
but now the word "scapegoat" has taken on an opposite meaning in so far as instead of being a device to defuse tension between people - it is method that those in power rely on to create tension between people in order to distract them from the short-comings of their leaders..
thus - Sacks might on occasion justifiably be described as a bit of a shit for the way he uses disingenuous words and/or conflates real antisemitism with forthright criticism of Israel - but that is a measure of the kind of scum that ends up in the house of lords rather than any real measure of him being jewish..

if he was to more actively express what his holy book teaches and burn all of the flags that he can find - most especially the union jack, the flag of israel and the stars and stripes - that might show a greater sincerity and encourage people to drop their tribalism, fear and hate in order to embrace a more universal human understanding..

Being Jewish myself I am baffled why antisemitism is so widespread.
Having lived in post war Poland in a Jewish family I considered myself Polish and not told that we were Jews. Later on when we moved to the West I felt I did not fit into the Jewish community in Australia. Looking at them through Polish eyes I found their way of interacting with others often inappropriate and insensitive. On the other hand, they were highly sensitive to 'what they called' antisemitism.
Every time someone had a issue with them personally they classed this as 'anti semitic'
No one ever had an issue with me and when I told them I am Jewish they were in disbelief.

As he rightly notes, when Jews are unsafe, no one is. History shows that and more and that is why, whether it is right or left engaging in this kind of vicious hatred, their cruelties and hostility must be fought, opposed, and freedom and human dignity defended as Sacks does so nobly here.
