WiSENT 2 - One platform for multiple missions
Already selected and fielded by five international customers as their premier heavy armoured support platform, the WiSENT 2 is worldwide the first truly multi-functional vehicle platform and represents the latest in armoured support vehicle design with its unparalleled versatility and outstanding performance parameters.
    ONE PLATFORM
The basic vehicle platform is based on the highly mature Leopard 2 MBT chassis, giving the WiSENT 2 all mobility and performance of this world class tank, including the full deep fording and submerging capabilities.
Highly protected, a common and undivided crew compartment always ensures uninterrupted crew communication and mutual support in situations of distress as well as continued vehicle readiness even if a crew member should become incapacitated.
The WiSENT 2 layout in compartments and the modular design architecture of the platform utilizing CANBUS technology offers unparalleled operational flexibility and maximized logistics commonality by combining state-of-the-art Armoured Engineer Vehicle (AEV) as well as Armoured Recovery Vehicle (ARV) capabilities plus other role options through fitting of mission kits on a single high performance vehicle platform.
Regardless of any selected mission role configuration, the WiSENT 2 platform always carries an internal main winch of 40t single line constant pull, as well as an optional internal auxiliary winch.
Besides an integrated cutting and welding station and a vast array of tools, the basic platform can also be equipped with either a conventional Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) or a battery- based Auxiliary Power Boost (APB) to ensure extended times of silent watch operations with the main engine off.
A central hydraulic module combined with intuitive operation through interactive touch screen displays forms the very core of the WiSENT 2 system architecture. All hydraulic main components are concentrated into a single hydraulic module as a Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) in the hydraulics compartment, allowing for easy access and maintenance.
When executing a vehicle role change with the mission specific role kits, there is no need to replace or reconfigure the central hydraulic system as the system automatically detects the selected vehicle configuration and related accessories, “Plug ‘n’ Play”.
    MULTIPLE ROLES
ENGINEERING: WiSENT 2 can be equipped with different types of dozer blades featuring various functions like variable tilt- , cut- and slew angles. An adjustable multi-arm excavator with a reach of 9.4m is capable of moving soil in excess of 260m3 per hour and can dig to a depth of more than 4m with the standard bucket of 1.3m3 capacity.
The armoured excavator features a hydraulic quick coupling system allowing the semi-automatic attachment of various alternative tools like compactors, grapplers, crushers etc. without a crew member being required to leave the vehicle.
RECOVERY: The AEV’s multi-arm excavator can be exchanged against a rotating fixed-boom crane, putting the WiSENT 2 into the full ARV role with a lifting capacity of 32t, while a 40t main winch, the auxiliary winch and a cutting and welding station are already part of the basic vehicle platform.
In addition to a set of tow bars stowed at the vehicle rear, the WiSENT 2 platform can be equipped with the FFG Combat Recovery System (CRS®), allowing the recovery of Leopard 2 family vehicles by using day and night sensors with the crew remaining completely under armour.
BREACHING: For mine breaching operations, WiSENT 2 can also be equipped with a Mine Breaching System (MBS) comprising of a Full Width Mine Plough (FWMP) including Magnetic Signature Duplicators (MSD) and a Safe Lane Marking System (SLMS) to identify the cleared path for follow-on troops. Explosive mine breaching devices can also be employed by the WiSENT 2.
BRIDGING: Carrying a 12m bridge in the AVBL role further augments the outstanding flexibility of this unique vehicle. The MLC 80 bridge can be independently deployed with the excavator arm in AEV configuration.
    MAXIMUM PROTECTION
WiSENT 2 offers maximum crew protection against mines and ballistic threats already in its basic configuration. These high protection levels can be further augmented through various optional systems against other threats like Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG) or Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).
The comprehensive platform protection concept options for the vehicle crew of three (3) include NBC protection systems (vehicle & individual), air conditioning and/or individual crew cooling systems, automatic Fire Suppression and Fire Extinguishing Systems as well as 360° day and night sensor suites.
Different caliber Multi Barrel Grenade Dischargers (MBGD) for defensive IR/smoke screen or HE grenades as well as various available types of Remote Weapon Stations (RWS) complement the vehicle’s protection concept.
