7800x3d (and 9800x3d in the future) is the beast to itx builds. 3d processors eat less energy => u can cool it by a small cooking system as top-flow coollers
What a lot of people don’t understand is that it isn’t the 9700 that’s the bad part it’s the fact that the 7800x3d has 3d cores, that’s a massive thing. 9700x3d or 9800x3d whatever it’ll be called will blow the 7800x3d out the water by 20fps or more in every game, just a fact.
@@stennan agree with you, but i think it's useful to see the difference in every resolution, because not everyone is looking for buying a new CPU to play in 1080p...
that is unnecessary really. The numbers you see would the same exact numbers you would get in 1440p or 4k, if you had a powerful enough gpu to keep up with it.. 4090 is limited in higher res, it could not keep up. maybe a 9090 could etc. The way the current market is, we are gpu limited not cpu limited at higher resolutions. These tests at 1080p show you what the cpus can do at 4k. if you had a magically faster gpu.
The 3D cache is really carrying the 7800x.. the energy usage being so high could be thanks to 5500mhz speed that 9700x running at, maybe an undervolt would draw less power and keep the same speed, but still you really expected the 9700x to win? Its like expecting a 3070 to beat 2080ti ... Still its a bit dissapointing from the energy usage

For 65 watt tdp 9700x offers very competitive perfomance. Currently 7800x3d is about 15% more expenses than 9700x and 7800x3d has 120 watt tdp. Good price/perfomance compared to 7800x3d, low power consumption makes this cpu a viable choise for power efficient build
My 7800x3d can easily last me 2 to 3 generations
For those who already own Ryzen 7 7800X3D dont bother getting Ryzen 7 9700x, and for those dont own any get the cheaper option 😅
And if the price is the same?
@@yoooyoyooo Doesn't really make a difference then does it? Pretty much same performance.
@@TheVanillatech I thought new one would draw less power but it seems they draw same power and that 7800 has a slight edge in games. I guess I'll just buy that one then.
@@yoooyoyooodo you all think the 9700x needs a same cooler like the 7800x3d? Or we can go cheaper with an air cooler under $80?
I see difference of 5-10 fps on average and the reason seems to be gpu bottlenecking more on the 9700x but can be freed to some extent with higher resolution. But out of games 9700x has higher benchmarks. So seems like i am going for the AUD 170 cheaper 9700x. Thank you for the video. Was searching for this exact comparison.
Since I am switching over to AMD and with all recent reviews of 9000 series, I might as well get 7950x3D for both gaming and productivity. Not a heavy user but I always prefer more core.
There's no reason not to choose the 7800X3D when playing games these days. It has excellent performance and energy savings.
I think would be nice to have this comparisons in 1080p, 1440p and 2160p in a single video, instead of 1080p only...
If we are testing CPUs we need to avoid GPU becoming a bottleneck
@@stennan agree with you, but i think it's useful to see the difference in every resolution, because not everyone is looking for buying a new CPU to play in 1080p...
agree, even in just 1440p or 2k@@dez7roy3r
that is unnecessary really.
@@dez7roy3rif u see so small differences in 1080p, what do u expect? Then in 1440p all games will use gpu 100%.
7800x3d vs 14900k with recent bios updates would be interesting next 👍
Not even worth considering Intel with the fundamental hardware problems they have now.
AMD: Our 9000 series cpus will be the best in gaming and power efficiency!!

@@NeonT3tra25 not even more efficient than zen 4, it's just the power limit
20 to 50% more power usage, worse performance, absolute dogshit
The 3D cache is really carrying the 7800x.. the energy usage being so high could be thanks to 5500mhz speed that 9700x running at, maybe an undervolt would draw less power and keep the same speed, but still you really expected the 9700x to win? Its like expecting a 3070 to beat 2080ti ... Still its a bit dissapointing from the energy usage
@@culixul compare price vs performance, it's exactly the same price in USD, so it's a big letdown
The reporting software TG is using is inaccurate. You should read/watch other reviews of the 9700x, instead of relying on one source.
This is why I really feel badly for those who rely only on Hardware Unboxed for reviews.
@@m8x425"erm actually this guy is very wrong... this guy too! zen 5 is peak of efficiency"
brother, it averages 86w according to many many sources. i watched like 20 9700x tests, according to 5 of them it averages at 86w
unless everything is bugged, the efficiency sucks

Wattage % of Zen5 are crazy.. we can all go back to cooler fan era..
Very impressive considering it doesn't have the 3D Vcache but ... essentially its the same performance for the same price.
The test is strange. The power supply is the same for the new product. The feeling that it is exposed in one phase. The fact that the novelty is colder to see is good.
9700X, though only slightly better than the 7700X and slightly worse than the 7800X3D, is still pretty impressive and it costs much less
Even on power efficiency, the 7800x3d still very efficient
Cpu designed for productivity competes with a cpu designed for gaming, test bench: only gaming, no productivity test 👏🏻😂🤣
9700x is way cheaper than 783 now. I'll definitely choose 9700x instead of 783 because of the Zen5

And this what happens when you go back on your plan to beat the 7800X3D with a TDP. Glad I stuck with Ryzen 7000.
If you turn off SMT in the bios you get same performance as 7800x3d
not behind too much compared with 7800x3d which is the king of gaming cpu. maybe 9900x will have a chance to neck to neck with 7800x3d, and i can’t imagine how powerful 9800x3d will be
Would’ve been better if you had CPU Temp enabled in the overlay.
It's true that you can buy Intel for all rounders, you can do gaming and even multimedia
But but but, they told me the 9700x was better for power consumption??
It is not only faster but it uses significantly less power, what a great CPU indeed, now it magically costs 450 euro here, what a clown world are we living in but I am happy with 7500f and I am playing in 4k so not CPU limited.
Friendly Reminder these Processors are basically the same price. So if all you do is play games R7 7800x3d is clearly the better choice since they work on the same motherboard and memory.
no need to fear, 7800x3d squad is here
9800X3D vs 285K then I decide what to upgrade to from my 8700K!
Does 9700X enable PBO to unlock 105w power consumption?
Not a fair comparison regardless 9700x is newer stuff. The fair one will be when 9800x3d is released.
Wait until yall see the 9950x aure the budget lineup is a bummer but the 9950x beats the 7800x3d they actuallt raised the poeer limit on it to make it more powerful for gaming. Its very very clear amd is trying to push people towards its flagship lineup for more profit this generation. Turning into a nornal coroporate company now who will focus and make the lineup more normla budget for budget performance and flagship for flagship performance.

@@MadridistaFrieren English is probably not his first language..... which is half of the people in this comments section.
The review of the 9950x will tell us what kind of issues the 9700x has. If the 9950x can match the 14900k in gaming without much tuning, and with SMT on, then the 9700x is having a power-limit related issue. If the 9950x is not much better than a 9700x with SMT left on, then that will tell us there's a problem with the datapath.
SMT and Hyperthreading do cause the CPU to consume more power.
Zen 5 is built for servers people still don't grasp that at all even every major site except coretex who explained that in detail. No one cares about bunch of gamers anymore money is in other places.Mainly servers and AI of course.Still 9800x3d will beat 7800x3d but that is beside point.

9700x is PPT throttling 100% of the time in every game.
I think this is a bug in the monitoring program due to the new processor
the video shows that even between 4.8GHz and 5.2GHz there is a 25% power consumption difference which is brutal, this just shows that no cpu should run even over 4GHz because even there it leaves the effictiency curve and everything above that is a disproportionate waste of energy

You should also check out reviews by der8auer, Gamers Nexus, guru3d, and most of all Techpowerup. LTT isn't bad but they're not known for being real in-depth with their reviews. I would have recommend Hardware Unboxed because they usually have good reviews but they struggled with their 9700x review.
Where AMD botched this launch is they should have given reviewers a couple extra weeks to test these processors.
LTT is a paid off shill.
