You saved our printer at a time when brother printers are out of stock everywhere. Thanks!!
Thank you! Between this and your video explaining how to clean and replace the ink absorber, you've saved a very nice printer from planned obsolescence!
You are OUTSTANDING! Thank you. I completely washed the felts in my ink absorber, walked through the code resets and I have my printer back! Thank you!
Greetings from Oz….. From out of nowhere my Brother MFC-J6920DW presented an “INK ABSORBER PAD FULL” message. What is that??? I found the error in the User Manual. No help there at all. I looked around and found your instructions. Great stuff!!! I have successfully cleaned the PAD’s, reset the PURGE (17,515 pages printed) and FLSBK counters, and the printer is working as new. Brilliant!!! Thank you very much indeed. Ted from Windsor, NSW, Australia.
Fantastic ! Thanks for letting me know Ted. I’m so glad it’s fixed your issue :)
Thanks again for thsi helpfull information, I have a MFC-J4410DW, works more than perfect, cheers from Panama.
We watched your other video on how to clean the ink absorber and then this one to reset and IT WORKED!!! So thrilled, Thanks! I have the Brother MFC-J471ODW.
I’m so glad I could help :! :)
Thank you for this comment. We have the same printer and now I will do/try the cleaning and reset myself
Thank you for this helpful video. It just worked on my MFC-J5330DW.
That’s great! I’m glad this helped you :)
This is great. You have helped us tackle planned obsolesce in the best way. That's one for the planet :)
Love this comment! You're most welcome !

Says ink absorber near full ?
Help
Hello
Excellent video. This video helped me get my old Brother printer working again. I just wanted to add my two cents to this purge counter story. My Brother printer is about 15 years old now - it is a Brother MFC 240C. I have a newer Brother printer, but I still wanna keep this old Brother working in case the newer one has problems some day - when I really need to print something. So my old Brother printer was getting the error code 46. This old printer has a hard wired power cord into the chassis - so to get into Maintenance Mode I had to unplug the printer at the power strip - then hold down the 'menu' button - then plug the printer back into the power strip while still holding down the menu button. Then after releasing the menu button, the small LCD screen said 'Maintenance 4'. I then typed in 8 and 0 - and was then able to scroll down using the arrow keys to find the 'purge' menu choice. I then typed in 2 7 8 3 - and the numbers behind the word 'purge' changed to 00000 - hence resetting the purge count to zero. The old Brother printer now works good as new. I had to go through the above steps about 10 times before I finally got all these steps and numbers completed in the proper order. I don't know why the Brother design engineers made getting into Maintenance Mode so incredibly complicated - other than designed obsolescence. I am sure many perfectly good old Brother printers wind up in landfills because the owners cannot jump through all the hoops necessary just to get into Maintenance Mode. I think the newer Brother printers make it easier to get into Maintenance Mode. I also wanted to point out I live in a very hot dry climate. ANY kind of liquid sitting in the ambient air here will quickly dry out - this is why I know the 'Ink Absorber Pads' were NOT full of ink - I am sure these pads are dry as a bone. So the error code 46 I was encountering had nothing to do with full Ink Absorber Pads. The error code was generated simply because of the total page count of printed pages hit some upper limit - which again is more designed obsolescence by the Brother engineers - essentially if you print a whole bunch of pages, your Brother printer will stop working and the owner's manual tells you to send the printer in for service. Pah-leese. But I'm still a huge Brother printer fan - the front end cost is low and after-market ink cartridges are low cost and work very well. I'll keep buying Brother printers despite the convoluted solution to these error codes.
Thanks for your comment. Brother does make it hard to get into maintenance mode, and they don’t release information as to how to do so yourself. That is so money keeps rolling in, as most people throw their printer away (because as you say they’re extremely good value up front for their technology) Only their service technicians have the information to do all the behind the scenes tweaks such as this one- until the powers of UA-cam showing the general public how to do it themselves ;)
thanks for adding your extra steps! your comment helped me find the purge reset by typing in 80 to get the arrows to appear.
Thanks! Worked with my MFC-J2510 as well!
Don't know what happened, but finally all good! Thank you, so much.
Brilliant. Excellent instructions easy to follow given a tortuous Brother Menu and worked (for a while) Unfortunately did have to resort to video on how to clean the ink pad absorbers in die course but that has worked. Saved my printer and all the new ink cartridges can be use
This worked on my MFC-J4710DW printer! Thank you!!!
Super helpful thank you very much.... works on mfc- j2320
Thanks for your videos. Watched this one and the one about cleaning the absorber pad. Saved our printer from the bin. Critical tip is the press 80 to get to the maintenance menu that is not super clear in the video.
And three times not two; and once to get back to the numbers once you do the purging.
thanks for all your help. It works now. My husband did the manuel bit and i followed the software maintenance stuff😍
No idea how to clean my dcp j4110dw but it prints just fine after resetting these counters^^ Thank you so much!
très bonne explication
merci pour votre partage d’information
Very helpful. Really appreciate your videos
Thank you so much🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽. It worked on my Brother printer
Thank to heaven and a big thank to you for your helpful videos. It's such a great feeling to be able to help myself with my printer problems. 🙏💓
Thank you so much for your help!
Great help, thank you very much. Do you have a list of explanation for all the other codes in the maintenance mode, please?
that helped solving my problem, thank you for taking the time to share these details
Thank you. I still get the Ink Absorber Nearfull message after reset and black ink looks light gray when printing. Any idea?
Worked a treat. 😄 Thank you again, Know-How! ♥
Hi thank you for your video re cleaning the ink pad. I have followed this and successfully completed. I do have a MFC-J825DW. NOW, I need your help with resetting the purge and flush counters. I can access the maintenance mode but I need guidance from there. Could you please advise. Many thanks.
Thank you for your helpful videos. I have cleaned the ink absorber pad and I have cleared the purge counter and colour/black counter but I continue to get the 'Unable to Clean 4D' error. Also to note when I go into the maintenance menu it doesn't say maintenance, it says printer error, but I was still able to navigate through all the system menus. Can I ask for any final suggestions before I cave and buy a new printer?
3 times not two, back once left or right to get back to the numbers once you purge, beep beep beep, and the notice still there. But that was fun. PS My 4510 kept shutting down when I tried to restart or use... and discovered by opening the ink cartridge door and then plugging in, I got the printer back in order to attempt this reset.
Thank you, great help.
When I key in *2864 it doesn't show "Maintenance", the message stays as "Machine Error46". If I try to press the up arrow after this I just get error beeps; the message/menu doesn't change and "Purge" doesn't appear. I'm using a MFC-J4820DW. Any thoughts?
Hi I need help! I took my machine apart but when I put it back together I get an error that keeps me from finishing the reset. The error is scanner cover is open. I can't figure out why Im getting the that message. Help!
Thank you very much👊
I am giddy with the power you've put into my hands! Mwwwahaha!!! Seriously, thanks for these great instructions. Cheers!
Haha love your comment! And you’re welcome 😇
The instructions were very good. I have a Brother MFC-J4510DW model. I've replaced the ink absorber pad and reset black and color flushing counters. Black ink print quality is still very poor. Any suggestions?
Hello. Greets from Mexico City. Very helpful video. I was wondering if you know how to disassemble the printer to correct the little dotted lines that appears vertically over the paper when you print.
Sure - this video shows how to dismantle the printer. It sounds like you might have fragments of paper or ink on the rollers. Try doing a clean first via the settings, or if you've already done that the video to dismantle is : ua-cam.com/video/6IsmfZbJNfQ/v-deo.html
Thank you for the videos
Do you have a link where i could buy the ink absorber piece for 4510dw?
Thanks 🙏
I was pleased to find this information online, hoping to be able to save my old Brother printer. It has been on the shelf for nearly a year, and using the reset information, I am only able to get to the maintenance menu, but not able to get to the purge page using the up arrows. My error code is 46, and my printer is a MFC- J6920DW. Can you help?
How do i rest HL -T4000DW Printer..?
thank you
Thanks, brazil
Thanks ... is there a way also for the MFC-J5730DW?
Brilliant it worked.
Hello do know how to reset purge counter of brother T420w?
Hello and thank you so much for your other video on how to clean the ink absorber. You have saved me from having to buy another printer. I am now having issues with resetting. Every time I enter the *2864 it will not give me the maintenance mode. It will just beep and state machine error 64 an you help?
I have a brother MFC-J9550DW
I’ve followed your steps perfectly & had success on every other printer I’ve had yet I can’t seem to get this mssg off. Please help
Did as instructed but Error 46 'ink absorber almost full' doesn't go away although purge, sen purge, flush counters BLK and color are reset to zero.
Any suggestions would be thankfully appreciated;-)
I can get to where it says maintenance by pressing *2, but if i put in the next number, 8, I get the message "insert card". Putting in the full *2864 gives the message error46 and the up button does nothing. My model is J4510DW. Any suggestions? Thanks
Hello, nice to see that there printer can be repaired. It was a nice printer.
I have cleaned the absorber, looks nice again. No inkt on the sensor.
But after resetting the purge, the FLSBK and the FLSCL counter i get the "INKT ABSORBER almost full" message, as before.
What can i reset or set more to get rit of thes messages? It is a Brother MFC-4510DW printer.
thanksss! in SM i couldn't find procedure of resetting FLSCL. Strange
Thanks for your help on cleaning the ink absorber, I now need to remove the error on my machine, it has a different layout to yours in this instruction video, my printer is a Brother MFC-J4610DW, Can you help me with any advice, I would be grateful.
Thanks a lot!
Hi there, my printer in Brother mfc-j4610dw and is displaying "Ink absorber full message" I have cleaned and reinstalled the Ink absorber box, reset the purge and flush counters both BK and CC to 00 but still the message is being displayed. Any idea what else I can do to reset this printer please?
Do you have a video on how to replace the ink absorber pad on a MFC-J885DW?
Thanks for the valuable instructions!
For me it works but now I get still the warning "Ink absorber is almost full" in the display of the printer (MFC-J 4510DW). How can I get rid of this message?
Hi - Try going through the steps again, and then shut down and unplug the printer. When you turn it back on, if the message still appears try updating the drivers on the computer you're using.
Help! I replaced the ink absorber by following your great instructions…however, the printer screen says “! Cover is Open. Can I remedy this?
Well, I've had the printer disconnected the last month, and had another go - thank you, Beth, your tip allowed to proceed through the arrows, I was able to go through the entire ink absorber proceedure, but no luck! Still it says the ink absorber is full, and so am unable to print - can we buy another ink absorber???
I have the same exact problem. I followed the steps closely four times, rechecked the ribbon cables and wiring connectors twice (first time I found two small oines disconnected), and I still get the ink absorber near full (instead of the full error now). What might have happened?
I've replaced the ink absorber pad and reset black flushing counters. Black ink print quality is still poor. Any suggestions?
You are a legend..x
Hello. Thank you for your video. I was able to clean the ink absorbers and reset the purge counts and such. Now that my printer restarted and looks good, I tried to print a test page but getting an error "unable to print8f". I checked and there is no paper jam anywhere. Any suggestion? does not seem like the print head is moving. I did hold down the red X. TIA
Hi - check first if there is a paper jam - even the tiniest scrap of paper or a staple trapped under the print head. If nothing there, check around the area for any other anything else that might be causing a jam. If you can’t resolve the error, you’ll need to partially dismantle the printer down to the motherboard and check that the cables are connected and to the right plugs. Best of luck
Amazing! I can't believe this worked, but I cleaned the ink absorber and a day later I am printing again. This stupid printer must be 7 years old. The longest I've ever been able to get one to last.
Love your videos, familiar voice, I'm just across the ditch in New Zealand. I have a Brother MFC-J4510DW printer. It was working perfectly until I couldn't get my usual paper and then it started jamming on every page with the new paper. I managed to clear the paper jams and the error messages. I've replaced the paper and can print again but I now have a distorted print line going through the same point on every piece of paper. I suspect that it is a missed piece of paper, or something was damaged trying to get the jammed paper out so many times. I can't see any fragments paper. Suggestions? It seems such a shame to pollute the enironment with what was a perfectly working printer.
It definitely does sound like a tiny fragment of paper is still in the paper feed somewhere, likely around the print head.
Get a clean dry paint brush and use it to clean around the print head and inside the jam cover flap : Using both hands, use the finger holds on each side of the machine to lift the scanner cover (1) into the open position.
Move the print head (if necessary) to take out any paper remaining in this area. Make sure pieces of paper are not left in the corners of the machine
HI thanks for this instructive video. I cleaned the ink absorber tank as described in your other video and followed your instructions on here to reset. However, I'm still getting "ink absorber near full" message. I am still able to print at this stage thankfully. Do you have any further advice which may help?
Sure- this seems to be a common thing after cleaning. Most ppl say the message disappeared after a couple of days, or you could do a reset of your printer - Unplug the power cord from the printer.
Remove the paper tray.
Press and hold the Power button.
While still holding the Power button plug in the power cord.
Wait for it to start, when normal home screen displayed release the power button.
There should be a message to replace the tray.
Sorry it’s more of a “hard start” than a reset.
@@Knowhow1 many thanks I shall follow your advice if the msg persists after a couple of days. Really appreciate your help🥰
Hi. How do I reset these errors on my brother model MFC-J475DW? Thank you.
Thanks for the Procedure, I have a MFC J4510DW And did the Procedure several Times, but I stll get the Message: Tabs are almost full. How can I get rid of ths? Greetings from Germany
Hi Just wondering how to reset error code 46. Watched your video but keeps saying error code 46. I have replaced the ink absorber pad.
Thanks
I've cleaned the pads and replaced everything. When I try these steps I put in*2864 there's a beep then machine error 46 msg comes up and I can't get beyond that?
nice job bb
Hi thanks for video by tge way, so i follow instructions & upon enetering *2864 main. Mode, ibstead of main. Mode it comes up as error 46 continually, do i need to clean the absorber better i guess?
Have you been able to reset the purge and flush counts? If so, just try a hard reset- sometimes this is needed to clear the error message. Unplug for 15 mins then turn back on.
So u know how can i do to reset the page counter?
Hello please can you help I have ink absorber full I have tried everything I have followed all the instructions cleaned absorber pads re assembled I then followed the reset instructions but it still keeps say ink absorber full I have checked everything several times but when I followed the rest instructions it says ink absorber full or machine error s
Hey I don’t know if you will see this but I am trying to get into maintenance mode but it won’t let me the ink absorber full message keeps interrupting as soon as I start holding down the home button, any ideas?
Hi- yes- just keep holding down the button when the message interrupts. It should still take to the maintenance menu.
@@Knowhow1 it didn’t work
Nvm I tried it again and it worked
Hi, I can't get any further after pressing the up arrow it doesn't say anything just won't go any further, please help. Thank you
Sorry for the late reply_ press 80 then the arrows will work
My Printer finally stopped printing due to "in Absorber Full" message. After 'cleaning' the absorber ("Clean or Replace the ink absorber box on Brother..") tray, I followed these instructions on resetting the counter, however, I still have the error message "Ink Absorber Nearly Full" any suggestions?
My printer is a DCP-J4110DW.
The easiest instructions out there, mush better than just music and fingers covering buttons.
Hi! I’ve done everything exactly how you described them (followed the full video on cleaning the absorber pad) and now I’ve reset everything like you did in this video but I still get the same error message? Thanks in advance :)
Try shutting down and unplugging the printer for 10 minutes and then start back up again. This usually clears the error message, and if it doesn’t the error should clear after a day or two
Hi I have an brother mfc-j435w ink absorber full can you help me out please.
Hi- if the error message is that it is full, you’ll need to clean or change the ink absorber. Please see my video for reference ua-cam.com/video/6IsmfZbJNfQ/v-deo.html
I have watched many of your videos (replaced the ink absorber with your tutorial! Yay) and am currently stuck on what to do next. I am not certain how to get a hold of you besides commenting. Here I go! Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks!
Hi ! What error or issue are you having ?
Do you have a text version of your instructions.
Most of my videos have subtitles, just put on English captions
Mine still says "Error 46" top LHS in Maintenance mode and won't let me do the purge
good video everything worked as explained except i still see the message. and i even cleaned the absorber like your other video
That often happens it seems. Try unplugging the printer for 20 mins, and hopefully the error will disappear, or often it will clear on its own after a day or two
@@Knowhow1 I have watched several of your videos, but this is not working for my mfc-j6535dw. In Maintence mode I have only "Purge Count" or "Purge Count_OTHE" - when I put in 2783 into each of these, nothings happens. There is not Purge with numbers after it. Thoughts?
Possibly it’s already reset the purge count if there is no option to further select PURGE COUNT or if there is no Purge option which is followed by numbers. If the error message still displays, unplug for 20 mins. Does it allow you to print ?
great help, i have followed all the steps, however when i click on the up arrow to get to the purge counter, the machines beeps, and it doesn't do anything.
Any help is much appreciated
Sounds like you perhaps haven’t entered 80 to access the menu. Try the steps again and ensure once in maintenance mode you enter 80 then find the purge and flush counts
Please help ... i am unable to press the up arrows, each time i do it beeps
Well, I waited a few days and the ink absorber full message is there now. See my previous comments below as to what I did but I followed the directions. Maybe there's a firmware update that I installed that made resetting this printer impossible, but I don't remember installing any and shy away from it on printers because some of these make it impossible to use 3rd party inks.
In short, I cleaned, dried, and reinstalled the ink absorber, followed the directions on resetting the purge and two flush counters, and did this multiple times.
Start with absorber full warning, then check the menu item settings below:
The purge menu item says 00000
The Sen purge item (I didn't touch this one) says 00000
The FLSBLK item reset itself to 00000121964
The FLSCL reset itself to 0000033783
I reset the FLSCL to zero and now both it and the black show zero.
I restarted with 99 and get the "near full" warning, which will last until I print 1 page then change to the "it's full" warning.
I go back into maintenance mode and see above at all zeroes. However, this was the case a few days ago and it reverted back to the large non-zero numbers above, so something isn't working. I did the power reset as you instructed me to do a few days ago, about 1/2 hour unplugged then plugged back in and it said the absorber was near full. (once you print 1 page it changes to full).
What else do I need to do? In case it matters, this is an MFC-J4710DW model. Now these are selling (new, old stock) for more than 3X what I paid for mine, probably because they are such a great printer. But if I have to shell out the $500, I'll probably switch to an Epson super tank printer. However, this one has a great duplex AFD scanner and those are hard to find in an under $1000 printer.
Please help. I don't need a printer all the time but I use it in my ministry, so using someone else's printer to do small jobs isn't the greatest solution while I wait to fix this. If we get this one working again, I'll go and follow the video on restoring the print heads because the yellow needs cleaned from seeing a test print.
Are there other items in the maintenance menu that may help this situation? Is there a way to make the printer revert back to completely new factory settings so that it doesn't remember any of this? And if so, is this even wise to do, since I don't have full ink tanks in there though I can check every so often and replace them a little early since I'm only paying a couple of dollars per cartridge for color and a dollar more for the larger black one?
I have an MFC J4620DW, mine will not display "maintenance" instead at the top it says "Machine Error 46". How can I get it to maintenance mode when it will not allow any changes in the machine error mode? Thanks in advance!!
Hmm... Sounds like the ink absorber is actually full... It's not too technical to fix this and I've got an easy video that'll help. In the vid I manually clean the ink absorber box which fixes this without needing to purchase anything besides paper towel and rubber gloves. You'll need a phillips head screwdriver too. Check out the video first to make sure you're feeling brave enough to pull your printer apart yourself...ua-cam.com/video/6IsmfZbJNfQ/v-deo.html
@@Knowhow1 Thanks fer getting back to me! This code is AFTER I followed your video walkthrough on cleaning the ink absorber box. Everything is clean and empty and put back together, but it will not clear the error. Any other ideas??
@@aimee226 Ok pls try this - power off and then unplug the printer for abt 15mins. Plug back in and while the machine's on the home screen, hold down the home button for 5 secs, then press the empty bottom tab for 2 secs, then *2864 -it should then enter maintenance mode. It may still display "error code 46" instead of "Maintenance" until the purge and flush count is cleaned, go through the procedure anyway to reset the counts. Enter 99 to exit maintenance mode. Pls let me know how you go :)
@@Knowhow1 IT WORKS! THANK YOU!!!!!!
Great video, but I had the "ink absorber almost full" on the display, I've resetted everything you've said (purge and flusch blk/cl) but the printer keeps giving me the same error on the display.. What to to ?
Sorry I didn’t see your comment earlier- if it’s still displaying, just unplug the printer for 10-15mins and power back on. This is a common occurrence and the error will clear in time. Often unplugging the printer which “hard starts” it will clear the error sooner.
worked for MFC-T4500DW
I have changed the ink absorbent and did what you sugested but still not printing properly
If I photocopy its not bad but not excellent and if I send something to print from the computer its not great at all

what to do when we make a mistake doing the reset?
I have a question : what is the danger on resetting without changing the ink absorber?
Not really any danger if you just reset it a couple of times.. you will need to eventually change or clean the ink absorber though (I have a video on that too)

still getting INK ABSORBER FULL message.? Please help.
I have an MFC-J4510DW. I followed your instructions very carefully. Cleaned felts, reset flush (B*W & Colour) and purge (they all showed a zero count after resetting and when I returned to maintenance mode to double check them).
When I restarted my printer, I still get the error "Ink Absorber NearFull".
Just after I did this, I printed a test page which showed that the print heads needed cleaning. I did this twice, and now I have the error "Ink Absorber Full".
Then, when I try to get back into Maintenance Mode to attempt to repeat the resetting of the flush and purge counters, I get Machine Error46, which seems to prevent me from getting into Maintenance Mode.
THEN... :) I realized that I was already in maintenance mode... I went back to the counters which were about 181 pages!! Weird. I reset them AGAIN, and found the the error was now back to "Ink Absorber NearFull".
I reset it AGAIN... and found the FLSCL at 6339 and the FLSBK at 12632 and the PURGE at 00000. Weird weird weird.
I went back into Maintenance mode again and FLSCL is now at 17913, FLSBK is at 8957, and the PURGE is at 0000. What the heck is going on?
Any ideas?
Do a hard restart,. If the error is ink absorber full it may be actually full and you may need to clean or replace it. Try hard restart first -
ua-cam.com/video/PlWQ1ipbr8g/v-deo.html
That video link is to hard restart. And this one is to clean ink absorber if needed : ua-cam.com/video/6IsmfZbJNfQ/v-deo.html
Thanks very much, we have followed the cleaning of the ink absorber, gotten it all back together, then trying to reset it. After the *2864 and beep, the up arrow is not responding when pressed, in fact none of the buttons or anything at all, are responding- we have unplugged the printer several times, and started again, but the same thing happens - help please!!!!
When you reassembled it, you must have missed one of the plugs. You’ll have to unassemble it again until you get to the motherboard, and check you’ve plugged each of the cables back in properly
@@Knowhow1 We did as you said, no change, still the ink absorber is full, and it won't do anything! Do you know where you can buy a new one?
I contacted Brother, to find out, and they responded that it needed to be taken to an authorised technician!!
Yeah they’ll always say to take it to a technician when the ink absorber is full or any error message really, and it’ll cost you a lot more than the printer itself (which is why I made the video). Is there any error message or anything on your printer any more? What happens when you turn it on? Do any buttons work after turning on?
I had the same problem. For me, I needed to push 80 first before I could get the up arrows to work.
@@bethsuminski8263 That's it, you need to first enter 80 and then the up arrow (and down arrow) will work. If you look carefully in the video, she does this very quickly, but doesn't mention it. Cheers,
Still no change, did all the steps, unplugged/replugged, waited a couple of weeks, still says absorber near full (was saying full and will shortly again).
Left it alone for about a month, tried again, it seemed to have worked. Thanks! Now on to cleaning the yellow print head. Ordered a flush kit and will gently send the cleaning fluid through the lines to the head and see how that works.
I cleaned the ink absorbers and cleared both the purge and flush counters and I’m still getting the “ink absorber almost full” message ??

Sorry I didn’t see your message until just now- has this resolved for you ? Sometimes it take a couple of uses for the error msg to clear. If it hasn’t, pls turn off and unplug the printer for abt 10 mins, then power back up. Let me know if this fixes this for you
Hi there, I followed the instructions and cleared the PURGE, FLSC and FLSBK counters but I am still getting the "Ink absorber pad full" error message. Ive also cleaned the ink pad (without gloves, which is another story!!). Please help, its driving me crazy!
Thx

Hi Rich - try unplugging the machine for 10 mins or so. This should reset the error for you after the pads been cleaned. That ink on your hands will last a couple of days !! Use lots of soap :)
@@Knowhow1 I used chlorine bleach and rubbed it into the fingers and hands but rinsed it off after about a minute. It cleared up most of it and the rest was almost invisible. This is not recommended from a safety perspective, and you do this at your own risk. Leaving it on the skin for more than a very short exposure time is dangerous, and it is an oxidizer, so rinse anything it comes in contact with, especially stainless steel sink bottoms. It can cause serious eye damage, too, so if you can just wait for the colors to wear off after cleaning as well as you can with dishwashing detergent and a scrub brush, you're better off, especially if you have sensitive skin. Wearing goggles if you do this might seem like it's excessive but you won't think so if you get some in your eyes from splashing it around.
