    The song is about a time when music was played all day, it woke us up, we walked, moved, went places, hung out, etc. and music was always there and we went to bed with it. This song is summer, it captures that time and space perfectly. For me it’s always the stairs in front of the house where people gathered, bongos, beers wrapped in bags, parents watching kids play and teens doing what we do.

    "All Day Music", "Summer Madness" by Kool and the Gang, and "Summer Breeze" by the Isley Brothers means summer has officially started.

      Right! And “Summer” by War.
      Sly’s “Hot Fun in the Summertime.” “Love Rollercoaster.” And a little-known tune, “In the Summertime,” by Mungo Jerry with early beatbox and jug playing (blowing in a bottle!). Lol. What else? 🤪

    Very nice album request. Reminds me of my late favorite uncle who continued to play it for years after its release, introducing it to me as a preteen.
    This “All Day Music” title cut (gorgeous harmonies, laidback romantic imagery, and that harmonica) and the lovely Latin listening and percussion of “Nappy Head” were Unc’s faves, therefore mine.🥲🙏🏾🎼🎵🎤🎹

    my unc used to light up a "doobie'" as he called it and kicked it all day back in the day w/ old school chilling music like this while sipping on that 'gin-n-tonic" and called it paradise! ... I gotta thank ma unc for hippin' me to this here drift ... straight borrowing from the vernacular of his day! Btw, try "don't let no one get you down" by the same group ... ma unc's #1 song by these here cats.

    Couple of thoughts...on the album overall, I understand why it may not hit you when compared to later works. Some groups you probably are better off starting with a greatest hits album first. War is in that vein...a few hits on several albums.
    As for this song in particular, it helps to understand the cultural vibe of the group, which was the Los Angeles vibe...outdoors, laid back, with Black and Latin musical influences. Picture yourself in a low rider convertible, driving to the park for a day of good food, friends and vibes (drink, smoke, natural high...etc). That was the essence of this track in particular and a part of what WAR was about in general. They played the music of the people in the hoods and barrios...and it resonated well beyond LA.

  • @TooSkinnyKenny
    @TooSkinnyKenny 9 місяців тому

    War's music sounded so organic and in-the-moment, I'm sure much of it was improved. A lot of it was amusing too like "Blisters". Unfortunately, many original members of the band have passed away. Consider trying out "Me And Baby Brother", "Southern Part Of Texas" or the faux reggae "Just Because".
