While I do agree with dorman being crap, I work on a Fleet of caravan cabs with the 3.6l I have done so many of those coolers i'm sure I could do them blind at this point. We just used the OEM cooler, ( and even those fail at a stupid rate), However there was a shortage of them last year were we couldn't get them for 4-6 months. So at that point we tried the dorman part. I am a shocked as anyone but they have held up perfectly for us, particularly as we deal with severe cold here in Canada.

Dorman is junk. Your rant is legit 👍I went to working on classic cars but still did modern cars on the side. The last time I used dorman was for f350 hvac door modules where you take out the dash. They both failed in a month. And a vent valve on a Chevy truck - failed as well. I won’t dorman anymore. Nothing like redoing those side gigs after your regular job at 10pm.

Got a Dorman water pump for a 5.9 Cummins in a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. Complete failure I could not even bolt it in. Hello OEM at 5 times the cost but it bolted right in and works great. What I like about seeing Dorman parts is that it’s almost always guaranteed to be the cause of the concern. What I don’t like is telling a customer we need to repair the repair they just had paid for. I think it’s pretty common for a car to not return after a Dorman part is installed, mainly because the customer doesn’t want to make that mistake again either.

We use a lot of those 3.6 coolers. By a lot I mean we did 3 on one day 2 weeks ago. We keep 4 different ones in stock if possible. There are two that make metal ones Dorman and another. We keep a Vemo a Mopar then both plastic and metal Dorman. There is another metal one we have in stock now. Most of the techs prefer the metal Dorman over the Mopar one. Honestly we have never had any of them come back from any brand and like I said we do a lot of them.

It’s hard to trust anything nowadays. I came across the same issue with a 2009 ford escape. The factory brake shoes were identical to the oreilly brand. The only difference was the box. The parts guy at ford dig deeper and found the parts in our hands had updated part numbers. The quality ones got discontinued. Ford outsourced subpar parts :/
I’m sure this is happening more and more as the United States consumer really allows it to happen. I know that overseas, cars among other things are built better.

We've last our ass a ridiculous amount within the last year because of Dorman and other cheap shit from the auto parts store. But guess what, my boss just keeps on ordering it. It's pissed me off to the point I am about ready to quit..... I personally have used three or four different brands with the oil cooler housings and haven't had any problems with any of the brands. Knock on wood.

I refuse to use any dorman product there quality has gone to pot over the last 10 years and they do not back there products as they say and they do not cover the labour cost of replacing there parts when the fail prematurely yet napa parts ford oem GM oem even some times dodge will cover the labour costs I hate aftermarket in so many ways

I dont know why shop owners wanna be some damn cheap & greedy and use Dorman parts. I would rather turn a job down then use Dorman even when the oem parts on back order until the end of time.
    And world pac..lol..whatta a joke

Dorman. Stranding motorists and frustrating technicians since 1918.
Dorman. For technicians who love their job so much they get to do the job twice.
Napa Solutions = Dorman O.E. Solutions
