I remember those CBS late night movies on KPIX channel 5 in the San Francisco Bay area. My grandmother when she would babysit us would stay up all night and watch those movies.

@impalaman9707 Last week I watched the replacements a movie from 2000 and I never once was like "this movie is so old" But if i saw a movie from the late 70s in 2000 I wouldn't get over how old it looked. It seems like the quality in cameras hasn't improved that much since 2000. Cars don't look that much different. The only stuff I notice that is a bit old looking is the computers, cell phones and the inside of cars
@@ChrisHonowayOFFICIAL MY POINT EXACTLY! I remember back in 1980 watching "Psycho" from 1960, and thinking, "This movie js ANCIENT!" But now, I'll watch "Shallow Hal" and think that movie could have been made yesterday! I'm telling you---pop culture is at a standstill!
I think all or most of the news broadcasts back then were called "eyewitness." Very nostalgic and comforting to watch these. I was 17 then and it was a great year.
The “Eyewitness News” brand would have been on KGO-TV 7, as it was on all other ABC-owned stations. But KPIX held the rights to the brand in the Bay Area, so Channel 7 adopted the “News Scene” brand instead. All three big network stations boasted high-quality newscasts in the 70s and 80s, though I liked Channel 7 just a shade ahead of KPIX.
One thing I’ve noticed from watching old commercials from the 70s and early 80s is that people back then must’ve hated caffeine in coffee. So many commercials for decaf. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one nowadays
Bill Hillman is the voice you hear doing all the KPIX IDs and voiceovers. He was a legendary announcer & broadcaster at KPIX for decades, all the way to 1992 when he retired. Bill Hillman passed away seven years later in 1999.
Thanks for the info about his passing. Knew Bill Hillman well. Not personally, just from seeing him doing quick news updates on Channel 5 in the morning. Also remember Marcos Gutierrez doing "Bilingual Eyewitness News" in Spanish and English. You probably remember that yourself.
47:58 1981 was the first year I started following sports in the Bay Area. For me, it was a glorious beginning as an 11-year old sports fan, as right away I got to witness an American League West title by the Oakland A’s, and then later on a stirring 13-3 season from the San Francisco 49ers that culminated in a victory in Super Bowl XVI for their first-ever NFL Championship.
The 1980's:🚨 STRANGER DANGER!🚨 Don't ever talk to strangers, kids, whatever you do! Also the 1980s: hey kiddos! Attach your name and address to a balloon, and just see what stranger picks it up! It'll be fun!
In January (81) when the hostages were released from Iran, they started talking about Vietnam veterans were getting upset at all the cheers for their return when they got pummeled at their own return just years before. People started saying to pass forward their cheer for the release of our people that were held in Iran towards former Vietnam vets also. (I was 19 at the time, and it struck me as touching)
I don't remember about the movie being rescheduled, but I sure remember hearing on my local radio station, a premature statement (before they found out later and corrected themselves) that James Brady had passed, it was so intense. The Oscars were moved also, weren't they? (To the following night)

@RetroLandfill I would like to make a request and information on how long you upload the videos. Can you please send me a notification via UA-cam when you get this post? Thanks.
Hi, I can't really take requests, as I am limited to whatever is on the tapes that I have (unless you have tapes you want to donate for capturing). I still have about 40 or so Betamax tapes to look through. These remaining tapes may or may not have commercials on them... but most likely they do. After that, I have a stack of VHS tapes I plan to go though. The frequency of the uploads depends mainly on my spare time and motivation to do it. It takes quite a while to go through a tape, capture the commercials, figure out the date it was aired, edit the commercials together, upload and then write out all the time stamps of each commercial. I am glad that people seem to be enjoying these commercials, it definitely keeps me motivated to finish the project. Feels like preserving a piece of history!
Let’s just turn back the clock to this time and push pause on life
I was 2 .I grown up In the 80s I miss it. Wish we could go back.
I was 2 too😊

These 1981 ads just prove that the 1970s didn't really end until 1982
Yep; same as the 80s not ending until 1991
exactly it takes a few years before the new decade kicks in, with the exception of the 2020s. 2020 Immediedtely was different and terrible

The "Eyewitness News" branding and theme were even used in Australia.

Yeah, they were really pushing Sanka.
None of my family or their acquaintances jumped on that ship. They all thought it was tasteless crap.
The commercial for GE dishwasher I remember GE we bring good things to life . They use to
I was an embryo inside mom when this aired lol
Me too! I was born in December that year

It's not as clever as you think it is. Dads weren't pussies back then and would kill anyone that tried to fuck with their kids.
How did I remember the Tab cola song?
That movie looks great 5:45
Love the Borden's LITE-LINE cheese mouse lady!
I never heard of that like a Vacuum cleaner Flymo 38:26
This 1.5 hour run of commercials was extracted from just the first 30 minutes of a 1981 "Gone With The Wind" network television airing.
1:12:54 This ad aired a year or two before FM 97 became KRQR The Rocker.
No plastic surgeries! Wow! Its awesome.
love the GE commercial.....back when they made shit....
I like how they did a story about the lousy deal that the Vietnam Vets got. 😒

‘Stand By Your Man’ was actually rescheduled two months later on May 13, 1981 because of the assassination attempt of Ronald Reagan on March 30th.
wow, that's a good bit of trivia!
