- This is an official DMV driving test from Los Angeles. The student had a few problems with changing lanes. Lane changes are one of the more common critical error fails on the driving test. Wacth and learn from her mistakes.

i passed last week with just 3 errors. if any of you have the test coming up, its actually not as scary as you think. once you start driving the fear and nerves that you had will start to disappear. you can do it!!
also, the test goes by pretty quick once you start driving. my test was only about 10 min and all we did was drive around the block, reverse in a straight line, and did the required end parking!

I took my test today and passed !!! I got 2 errors. Everyone taking it don’t overthink, have confidence, and take your time don’t rush. YOU CAN DO IT!

She did a great job. She had trouble with the lane change near the end 10:48 because there was a car behind her (in the lane she was to go into) AND a signal was coming up pretty quickly, and you’re not supposed to make lane changes going through lights. Honestly, the instructor told her to change lanes too late. If the instructor had paid attention, she would have seen there was a car in the right lane, so she couldn’t change the second she told her to. It was unfair. I hope she passed.
I agree. At some crossings I would go to the rightmost position before making a full stop at the STOP sign, to be sure that I don't block the oncoming traffic. At one crossing she did move to the rightmost position before making a full stop.
idk cause she had enough space and time to change. yes there was a car behind her, but even when she passed the car she still had enough space to change lanes 🙇🏽♀️
I think in that scenario she needed to explain to the examiner that she couldn't do it safely.
That lane change is possible if you drive a bit more aggressively and accelerate a bit more - legal to do, but kind of risky for the exam.
No, you’re wrong. She could’ve sped up a bit & changed lanes before stopping at the light, or she could’ve slowed down & got behind the car to her right. Do me a favor & stay out of the streets please.

I am glad she didn't fail her at the end @ 10:48 for not changing lane to the right when instructed to do so. I think she didn't change lanes right away because the other car to the right was going too fast and she didn't want to crash. However, like the examiner said slightly slow down to let the driver pass or slightly speed up to do the change lanes. I like how the examiner was neutral by not being easy or tough, just in the middle. I am glad she passed. God Bless.

She should of "change to the right lane when IT'S SAFE"
I thought the instructor didn’t give her enough time to change lanes, then got irritated when she couldn’t due to the car on the right and the signal lights coming up (can’t change lanes through lights). What she expected from her was what we expect from seasoned drivers who have been driving for many years.

That's so awesome my examiner said that's very rare for her! I passed with 1 mistake and she told me the person before me was nonstop talking but somehow got the first perfect she'd given out in months. xD

11:00 sounds like bad instructing to me. She can’t pass the car next to her without going over the speed limit, not to mention they are approaching an intersection on a yellow light, and she can’t slow down enough without causing a traffic hazard behind her. What an asshole move on the instructors part.
Yeah and then she just said “change lanes to the right” and then she was about to and was like “not now” like bruh ... u just said to change lanes idiot
i was thinking the same thing. And her repeating herself made it more confusing for the person being tested. That shouldn't have counted against them that was a bad call on the testers part.

I just passed my drivers test today March 13th. My advice would be over exaggerate good habits, i.e intersections checks, checking blind spots, checking mirrors and just try to stay calm.
Passed mine on the 10th it's honestly pretty easy
I remember watching these videos before taking my test the next day lol. Honestly it helped a lot but don’t stress! Stay positive and comfortable and you’ll be fine!
These r my guesses for the 5 points off:
- didn’t slow down enough for a right turn
- took a while to notice that the light went green when waiting to turn right
- didn’t cancel her signal when reversing after she pulled over
- drove in the centre lane on the perpendicular rode a little when turning left? (too sharp of a turn)?
- under-confidence when needed to change lanes to the right (missed her turn?)
My test is on Tuesday in California and I have no idea what to expect because of Covid!!!

I'd say the examinator told her so "change lanes to the right" too fast, the car was parallel to the car there driving and coming into an intersection and then yelling change lanes to the right but right after saying "not now" like....huh
She said it at that moment on purpose I believe to see if she would just listen to her (like she did) or double check. I do see why the girl got tricked up tho.
But she said “ change lanes to the right “. A LOT earlier but she didn’t take the chance she reminded her again. But as you know you that you shouldn’t try to change lanes right before an intersection. This girl is a little nervous and uses her turns signals a bit to early when it’s not necessary. I think that was a good Reston the instructor to show her you shouldn’t always listen make your own observation with what you see and when to execute it. As the person above me has also mentioned.
my instructor said that examiners do that sometimes to see if drivers know when they should and shouldn't change lanes. i would have slipped up too if she told me that, but good to learn from this video

You have to exaggerate the looking over shoulders before any turn or lane change for those difficult examiners.

Thank you for this channel. Help me through this road test. I just passed my road test today on 2/20/2021. It's my second attempt and this time I have very nice examiner. She helped me feel comfortable and less stress. I meant her personality is great and very kind. I did everything I learned from this channel. At the end she said I passed and she said I am her best driver of the day.

10:50 was this some sort of test from the examiner to tell her to lane change while next to a car. Like I would've pushed the speed limit to change lanes and screwed my self over, because of the poorly timed instructions.
Yes, she also said it again and THEN reprimanded her. Odd.

This brings back so many memories when I got my license 10 years ago. I got my CDL Class A license about 2 months ago. Just imagine the same test but in a 70 foot truck.
Literally couldn’t even start my test 😂 I hit the curb before they even got in my car and I failed immediately. Don’t be like me

sometimes accelerating into a lane change is necessary in order to establish a safe following distance between you and the car next to you.
Will examiners take off for that?
@@Sharon-zj2gp no they'll fail if you don't adjust speed in order to make a safe lane change which is what the examiner talks about the last part of the video.

Might be different where she is driving but it looked like she was stopping too soon before the white stop lines. I used to do the same thing all the time
you have to stop 2 feet BEFORE IT. stopping right at it or on it is a deduction. she played it safe
@@aujianafletcher it definitely could be different here in BC, Canada where I live. Here we stop so that your tires are before the line but the front bumper is covering it. There's a great channel on UA-cam called Smart Drive Test that talks about that. But definitely every place is different and instructors are different in what they like!

When you change lanes and someone is besides you same speed should you slow or add more speed ?

Got my license on 12/4! Even though my test was in NY, This series was such a help to me because all states have similar tests and the videos didn’t only show me how to pass the test, but on how to be a better driver. Only got 15 points(max was 30) and it was just minor errors. Just breathe and practice. Practice makes perfect. You got this and good luck for everybody taking there road tests!

I failed my test yesterday because i didnt yeild at a signle full green turn left, i also went around a roundabout from the right lane and i slowed down at a controlled intersection. Such a waste of money, gonna be registering again tomorrow for anothe test.
Did you pass your second test
1:13 I would stop as right as possible, and then make a full stop of course. I would not block the oncoming traffic. Maybe the black car at the left could have wanted to go to the right (but actually it goes forward). At 3:15 the student does move to the right before stopping for the STOP sign. At 8:54 the same mistake. She should go to the rightmost position, before the full stock.
2:20 I would have slowed down a bit.
4:36-5:03 The examiner could have said: "At the next crossing, turn left." It is up to the student to move to the leftmost lane independently and than take the lane with the arrow to the left.
5:56 She should have switched of the direction indicator.
10:48-11:02 The student wants to do this in a safe way. She was dealing with the car on the right lane, I think. I would wait until the moment when it is safe to move ro the right lane. At 11:04 it is likely not allowed any more to change lange (at least in the Netherlands you must stay in your current lane, when the lines are solid).

I would say too close to some parked cars, stopped in both lanes at a 4 way, hit turn signal for a sec at a 4 way when going straight. Seemed like speeding on some of those community roads. Can't see if she looked at mirror when switching lanes but switch lanes pretty fast when told so I'm guessing not. Don't know if she switched turn signal to the left side when done the park reverse maneuver to pull out onto the road. Hit turn signal way early when turning right and didn't get in a lane suitable for the turn. Sometimes stops well behind the stop line, could obscure view of the street if a building is present. A decent amount of minors I would say but thats expected for a beginner. Overall imo it's a pass. I would feel comfortable riding with her

I’m 18 and I’m trying to get a license and car to get a better job but no one is trying to teach me how to drive. I’ve driven here and there but I haven’t really been taught. Any advice on what I can do
I'm so sorry to hear that nobody is trying to teach you to drive, if we were in the same state, I honestly would be more than willing to teach you! Would you be able to take a drivers ed class? I know you're an adult but many states do offer drivers ed classes for adults, that way you can prepare for the test and get some practice time in, sometimes instructors are willing to schedule times outside of shceduled drives to work one on one. If you don't want to take the class I think depending on your state there might be driving test centers that you can schedule some behind the wheel time one on one with a drive instructor. I suggest doing some research on some of those options if you want, hope this helps :)

I have a question for anyone who can answer it. Test is in two weeks. When I am waiting to make a right turn on red, do I pull into the crosswalk if it’s clear of pedestrians, or do I want behind the crosswalk? Thank you in advance!
when u want to turn right at a red light, u must first stop behind the line and look at for pedestrians, if there are no pedestrians then move up and turn when there’s no cars

@@Jay-zd1jz you can cross the bike lane to turn right if there are no bikes. :)
You want to stop behind the crosswalk, check for pedestrians, if there are none creep forward to get a better view then go when it’s clear.

I took my first shot this Wednesday, however, the test was done before it even started: the battery of my car was dead after waiting for ~1h and my car blocked the test lane for all student drivers so they have to ask everybody to reverse... Embarrassed to death................
