  • One of the strangest adventure games ever made, the story of Klaymen and The Neverhood is just awesome. Surreal and underrated only begins to describe it. No wonder that it's a highly collectible cult classic!

Thanks! The claymation intro is one of the most decidedly un-lazy things I've done.
I certainly hope it'll show up on GoG.com someday! It's a crying shame more people haven't been able to experience The Neverhood.

It's actually a popular cult classic in Eastern Europe!
If you ask anyone over 25 who had a computer back in the 90s-00s - they have all played Neverhood.
And the soundtrack is unavoidable as well, they used it quite a few television shows.

There was a time when I had Willy Trombone's entire monologue memorized. I'd watched the making-of mockumentary that came on the disc and I'd read the entire chronicles in the records room. It's really unfortunate about the video compression -- if I had to guess, I'd say that's the main thing keeping them from releasing a remastered version. That and maybe intellectual property issues.

Holy crap, I played this game while I was in school. Our teacher in Year 5 had us play it as a class so we'd solve puzzles and do all the good problem solving that comes with that, and it was entertainment too. Good shit! Instead of every other class having free time, we played The Neverhood, and that might've been the best decision ever made for a group of kids.
Learning how rare and unknown this game is, I'm amazed I chanced across it. So, thanks teacher! You gave me a fantastic memory of a very unique - and apparently rare - game!

To this day I thank my dad for showing me this game when I was a little kid like 10 years ago maybe, I freaking loved it then and I still love it now. I don't even know how he knew about it but I still remember playing it and loving every second of it. I especially remember the super long corridor with a story on the wall, of course I didn't read it bc I didnt speak English at the time, but walking through all that just to get a disc. Ahh... The memories. It's so weird though because I never met anyone who knew the game, I don't even know if it was released in Poland as I had a pirated, English version..

Oh man what a great memories!

Ok this comment was written 3 years ago, but same! My dad also gave me an English version and I played it when I was younger as well, and I don't know if it was released in Poland either to be honest. Apparently my brother got it when he was younger for his birthday, so that's how I knew it. I definetly remember the hall which I couldn't read because I wasn't bothered to, and that really annoying matching puzzle and "H" puzzle I was stuck on for AGES. Good times.

I didn't know you covered the Neverhood! :D It was such a strange, wonderful, almost uncomfortable, world for a latchkey kid in the 90's to find themselves immersed in while home alone. An eerie, but fascinating world floating in a black void that you basically get to explore all by yourself. It made such an impression on me that 90's post modern design and spacey ambient music are the two halves that make up my happy place today. That and the Neverhood soundtrack. It's a strange place, but it's mine.

I fell in love with this game when I played it on a MSN mailer disc (I remember it being on that) but never got to play it fully till a few years ago. I wouldn't say the gameplay was mind blowing, but it is the fact that I was watching stop motion animation using clay as the characters and world that made the experience very fun. In today's world of almost production line assembly of video games, titles like The Neverhood I feel stand the test of time for being unique in its presentation.

I only watched this video because the thumbnail reminded me of a bizzare cleymation game on the PC that my older cousin showed me around 13 years ago when I was a kid. Shows how memorable the style is. I especially remember the fruit that makes you burp for twice as long each time you eat one, or so I recall.

Just randomly looked it up today because I got a flashback yesterday. Absolutely such a fun damn game. So much fun and I can't believe how well it was done because that's so much work to do it with claymation.

I had this game growing up and loved it. Recently it popped in my head and it took some searching to remember the name of it again. I agree, an updated remastered version with a larger resolution would be great. Still, it's a classic that I MUST have again.

This game was awesome. I have fond memories of playing this during school holidays with 2 of my best friends. We would play through out the night while getting pissed out of our minds in whatever we could find hidden in my dad's 'secret' alcohol stash. This game will always have a really special place in my heart.

"Despite the puzzles which get a bit too out there"; well that was the selling point of the game for me when I first played it eons ago; really loved the puzzle design, they were all quite inventive and challenging and I loved that.

Wow, this looks great. I really love the style and general atmosphere. One that I really missed out on, I guess.
The strange and difficult puzzles are definitely a plus for me, though. I love games like that - the harder or weirder, the better. :p Myst and Riven were great examples.
Thanks for the review, another solid video!

My dad still has a copy of this game. We would play when me and my sister were kids (later he got my nephews to play), we never finished it but it was fun because of the puzzles and the comedy. To be honest, it was a rare game because of the choice of medium used for this

Man dude, I nearly shat bricks when I saw this on my subscribers page. This was my absolute favorite childhood video game. My dad's friend got a copy for free from some convention he went to and it sorta was just given to me to mess around with. Awesome job dude :D (Especially that clay-mation intro!!)

I have this game on the original disk which I have owned since the year it came out! :D I had no idea it goes for so much now
I love this game so much, grew up with it. i remember eating fruit from the tree and just dying from laughter and the stupidly long burps. Ah to be so young and innocent again. I've never actually been able to beat the game on my own. It was my grandpa who got it for me and playing it with him was the only time I ever beat the game or ever got very far in it. It really does give you easy puzzles and then slap you in the face with some off the wall difficult one out of nowhere. This game, Streets of Simcity, Jane's WWII combat, Jane's IAF, Flight simulator 2000, Age of Empires, Wolfenstein 3D, and some monster truck game of which I cant remember the name of were the computer games of my childhood and all thats to my grandpa no less.

I was at Dreamworks when this was being made, never saw anything about it and only knew about it when I saw it at the Dreamworks Studio Store. Project I was on at the time was The Prince of Egypt. The only game I saw being made at DWI was a Goosebumps game and a Jurassic Park game.

Come on! Played this game when it was released, and I was a kid in school. I did have to think for 2-3 days on the worst of the puzzles - the sound ones, but it contributed to the charm of the game. Nothing was too hard, it is just that I was a kid. This is the only adventure game I replayed for at least 3 times. The scorpion-monster was the funniest thing ever, and Willy movie was the saddest. I still remember every word of that video to this day and "Look out for bar, because bad is where you always forget to look" has been a life motto in a way.
